So I started a trial recently to check out the new additions to the game, but it seems there were very little in the way of gameplay mechanics. The game is outdated. There's still no manual ship control, no free warping, can't train skills on 2 chars at once, can't get out of my ship and walk around, can't pay to customize my ship, etc.
This game has been around for like 5 years. It's time to update and add things that should have been in this game a long time ago.

can't get out of my ship and walk around - Coming 2008
no manual ship control - Never gonna happen. Eve is not a twitch game.
no free warping - That's what bookmarks are for
can't train skills on 2 chars at once - By design (or buy a second account)
can't pay to customize my ship - Almost impossible to do.
Just seems like this is not the game for you.

'Gameplay mechanics' are fine as they are. - Consider the time it takes to maneuver and align the bigger ships, I don't think holding down buttons for 5 minutes to turn your dread around sounds like much fun. - As for free warping, consider the fact that much of space has nothing in it. You ever run out of capacitor mid-jump and drop into the middle of nowhere? It's empty. That's no fun. - Skill training is limited to one per account to prevent people from developing chars with 20mil+SP without ever undocking and playing. - Leaving your ship and walking around stations will become available on the release of Ambulation. This will allow you to hold war meetings etc in corp rooms before undocking. - Ship customisation would cause lag of obscene levels. Fleet warfare is bad enough without the node crashing cos the server has to try and keep up with 400 different skinned ships.
But I suppose you can't keep everyone happy all the time. Maybe CCP should implement elves or something.

I disagree with the OP on all points.
Bookmarks and SafeSpots are good for "free warping" and, if "free warping" existed, it means we could just say "oh, set course for middle of BoB 0.0 territory at a safespot 20 AU from any celestial object and cloak upon arrival", which in my opinion would ruin sttuff like pirates and anti-pirates.

The gameplay mechanics are not outdated, they just aren't what you want. EVE will never be a twitch game with manual flight control, and we will never be able to train two characters at once. That is how it's designed. That is how it's supposed to be. That is how it will always be. If it ever changes then EVE is no longer EVE and it will die.
However, being able to get out of your ship at stations is coming with the "Ambulation" expansion some time later this year. However, there will not be combat in that. Again, that's not what EVE is.

Well, in that case as the gameplay mechanics are so trivial you are probably a ship fitting genius, could you critique my rokh setup? im having trouble deciding between a blokh and torp raven.
Quote: There's still no manual ship control, no free warping, can't train skills on 2 chars at once
should any of these things be in EVE? probably not, it would ruin it a bit. btw, you can manually control your ship, double click in space.

you know what really annoys me about WoW? i cant get into my spaceship and fly around the galaxy.
EVE is EVE, its old but constantly improving and lets be honest, its a lot deeper and involved than any game out there right now. Its also really not for everyone, I sense that you might be happier playing a more traditional mmorpg and luckily there are lots of them out there to chose from. Still, im sorry that you didnt enjoy your experience with it, perhaps after ambulation you will like it more?

You can't have EVE becoming dominated by who turns and clicks their mouse faster in ambulation i.e fighting. I quite like the idea of private corp rooms and the fact you can instead of lookin at a ship, look at your character. After all, I've been in a pod all my life, I'm looking forward to getting some fresh air.

They've already showed us a working prototype of it, at this point it seems to be just a case of refining things. They also need the Ambulation engine for their second game, and there's a whole lot of 2008 ahead of us.

Well i've just finished the Trial and I'm now a subscriber, i'd totally disagree with just about everything.
This game is what it is and what you make of it, why should the game change to suit what you expect? If you want twitch and leet spaceship flying games im sure theres plenty out there, If not played one since the old X wing games if you want to walk out of a ship and around theres Mass Effect, the answers not to want a game changed to how you like it's for you to find a game that suits you.
the only one i'd even half agree with is the customiation, i really wouls like to give my ships slight ..only slight customisation, such as ships name or number on the hull or something like that but its no biggie.

It is possible to change the ship's name - right click --> set name. but it won't be visible as a paintjob on the outside or anything, it will only show to players who right click --> show info on your ship _

The op's post is mostly a rant...
Originally by: Anthriel Skyfire So I started a trial recently to check out the new additions to the game
Sounds like you didn't find much, I found many myself, and like them...
Originally by: Anthriel Skyfire , but it seems there were very little in the way of gameplay mechanics. The game is outdated.
Here, you were supposed to say : 'I don't like the game', that's how polite people say.
Originally by: Anthriel Skyfire There's still no manual ship control, no free warping,
Eve is not a flight simulator, it's tactical space combat... This makes a difference. In a flight simulator, you would shake the stick to dodge missiles or gunfire... I'm not saying such game isn't fun, I played all the starwars flight simulators since X-Wing, and love them, just it's not eve : different approach for different gameplay.
Originally by: Anthriel Skyfire can't train skills on 2 chars at once,
How does that improve your gameplay. You can't play two characters at once... Seriously, I'm happy with one character.
Originally by: Anthriel Skyfire can't get out of my ship and walk around,
This is coming, soon(tm). Ok, we didn't have much news about this, but that's not the reason I came to play eve. It's a ship game, and they're adding ambulation at some point... A game can't do all it was not designed for.
Originally by: Anthriel Skyfire can't pay to customize my ship, etc.
Yeah, ships are all the same when they have the same hull, we know, yes it could be better, but most of the time we wouldn't notice the difference...
Originally by: Anthriel Skyfire This game has been around for like 5 years. It's time to update and add things that should have been in this game a long time ago.
Time to add the things you would like? You're not alone, the things that make new players come are maybe not the same as the things that you would like. Any project has to be sold to have the funds to evolve... It's good that eve opens a bit as it does lately, a part of the playerbase was turning to elitist fanboys and new blood was needed. -- Pocket drone carriers (tm) enthousiast !

So where exactly are the questions about the game in it's current state that the OP wants to ask of other players? Or did he misread the forum's purpose as well?
Because this looks suspiciously like a troll aimed at CCP that really belongs in General discussions.

I'd like to see more visible modules on ships to be honest. When I fitted 7 missile launchers to my Drake I was disappointed to see that visually I didn't seem to be able to tell anything had been fitted. At least on my little Cormorant I can see the turrets :)

Corp branding, fine. Battle scarring would be very cool.
Custom paint would be the ship equivalent of a dance emote. You would have ships in hot pink and banana yellow all over the place. It would just ruin how Eve is "supposed" to feel. e.g. cold, hard and dark.
However any of these would be very hard to do as far as my (limited) understanding goes.

It would mean that there was less graphics that could be reused from the data loaded into the graphics cache at that time, meaning more stuff had to be loaded onto the display card(instead of one 3D model for the entire fleet of Jags, you'd have to prepare a model for 1 red one, one red and black one, one black one with skull and bones decal, etc....), meaning kiss performance goodbye. For something that you will normally only see when undocking (i mean, how often do you see other ships as something other than tactical display icons?) this wouldn't rate high on my priority list.
More personalization of the info and profile screens however (maybe only show customized models there as a rotating image) would be less objectionable as you'd only need to load one custom model at a time. It may even be nice.

Eve = not a singleplayer grinder
There's so much more "content" in Eve than missions it's ridiculous. Get a good corp behind you and skill yourself up properly to use bigger ships. Meanwhile figure out a way to make some descent isk.
If you don't find any of that far deeper and more engrossing than simple gameplay mechanics eve may not be for you.

I greatly await being able to walk about outside my ship to be able to do a little more when I am otherwise just busy cramming my head full of book smarts in EvE (lolz @ skill system).
Manual control would be a good thing but due to the lag it would cause it would ultimately be bad. Also due to the lag that already exists it could be a nightmare to do. It is bad enough when your ship flies itself when lag hits, imagine your outdated "real-time" commands getting all lagged up. Nightmare. I just want them to make the ships Nav computers smarter so they do not do dumb things like get stuck on objects.
Free Warping would rock. Most people who do not like that idea are probably afraid of how hard it would make it to find you. I would love to be able to input cordinates on a cubical grid and just warp there. It make for some AWESOME Safe Spots that are really hard to get right now.
Customized ships? You can customize your ship a fair bit but if you are talking about paintjob then I agree. That would be very nice. Even if the only thing they allow is our Corp or Alliance Symbol to be flown proudly on our ships I would be happy, just that tiny tweak. Though being able to make fully creative paint jobs would rock. You could even sell the service and paint other folks ships. I do not even care if they link a skill with it to get the best paints and stuff. +++++++++++++++ I saw the Sign...!

Ummm...the op didn't even mention any game mechanics really....as in things that actually affect gameplay. He also apparently didn't see the new graphics....which honestly aren't a game mechanic. Game mechanics are how empire war agression works....covert cynos not showing up on the overview, new skills, etc (of which there are plenty of additions).
Further more, I am sick of every whine thread ppl make about eve and how they ask to train more than one character at once. I do not know of a single MMO in existence that allows this. Try to open up multiple wow/EQ/Ultima clients and logging into the same account. You can't do it. Hence, you cannot skill up two ppl simultaneously. to do so, you would have to log off (= stop your skill training in eve) and log on to a different client and continue the grind (= start a skill on your alt).
If you just don't like it, well, that's fine. It's not for everyone....but honestly, don't expect to not get flamed when your reasons for not liking the game are because you can't make your ship look purty or fly with a joystick.

Personally I think the gun models on ships are lack luster in impressiveness while we are at the missile launcher thing. Mostly just in that they should be significantly bigger for the larger ships. I feel like my Maelstrom fires peashooters based on their size.
However, as for the hot pink and yellow paintjobs just link a skill to it . That way at least they have to take valuable time or spend Isk to get the job done. May have to spend Isk to use Station Services to do it anyway. But honestly, these are the ships of the Egomaniacle Pod Pilots. They would do anything they frelling pleased with their ships and the paint jobs. So if they want a Hot Pink ship then they would get it. I do not see how that would ruin the game with how it was set-up plotwise. If they make their ship super visible it just makes it easier to see them and blow them up. I mean we use "Naval" model ships for the most part but we Pod Pilots are far from Naval employees, we do whatever we want. We subvert CONCORD, we **** on the Empires, we kill, rape, and maim anyone we please without consequence. With all that Freedom why cannot we also customize our paintjob? +++++++++++++++ I saw the Sign...!
