Alfadir d'Aegir (Thorax) and Koyomi Higarasu (Vexor) defeat Mr Yoda (Celestis) and uber nator (Caracal) in 9:30. This match was exceptional - definitely one of the best in the tournament - as we watched the Vexor and Celestis spend half the match throwing everything they could at each other.
Ecaf Ersa (Vexor) and Mobyr Rutthelm (Vexor) defeat Ariel Loren (Vexor) and Jolia Darkstrider (Blackbird) in 3:30. I felt privileged to finally see someone make smart use of sentries in the tournament. Good fight from both sides!

Originally by: Pham Nuuwen So... what you're saying is, that your opponent's team can go ahead and tell the judge that the fight is at any time they want, when you're offline, and when you don't show up, that's that? How in the world does that make ANY sense at all?
We were there, in the system, ready to fight at the appointed time. They went ahead and fought their 'next' opponents anyway, after telling us they'd fight us still, cowards.
If you feel wronged, war dec them and take revenge. But don't try to ruin the tournament.

Oh, got nothing to say about the issue then? No surprise. I'm sorry but the only recourse left is to prevent the tournament from creating any more victims like me and poor Hellraiser, who skipped a day of class to be here, only to be frozen out by the likes of crappy little El Caido.

Update Just to let everyone know what sort of person Pham Nuuwen is, he is currently flying around different arenas with remote reps and trying to draw agro from smartbombs. Now it may just be me but I would expect better from a 3 year old player let alone an alliance CEO. He has truly embarrased himself, trying to spoil efforts from alot of hard working people.

No, he was in structure. You cannot repair structure. The only ship doing DPS was me, and he was at 65 structure when I went down (lucky btw). _________________ Burn. |

Actually, you CAN repair structure, but what I repaired on him was shields. Since he was at about 0% structure, and I got off three cycles before I ran out of cap and warped out so I wasn't killed ... I think it's safe to say I definitely swung the tide on that one.

Your straw man arguments are amusing. But yes, I'm afraid I did. With my alt. With my finger.

Pham: I highly doubt that. I never saw anyone other locking me than my opponents. You never were within the range of remote shield repping - if anyone was, the judge would have stepped in and disqualified one party or restarted the match.
Let's assume you did manage to shield rep me from outside the arena, it still did not matter. I wasn't able to fire a single shot after closing in with Guy Fox's Moa; the match would have ended exactly the same way if I was destroyed few seconds earlier - it would have just taken a bit longer.
Your actions are rather childish at this point: perhaps somebody wronged against you, but now you're trying to take your revenge on people who have nothing to do with the issue. Therefore, I ask you to stop harassing the remaining pilots in the tournament and take your revenge on the organizers and/or your opponents after the tournament is over.
And, lucky me, surviving with 65 structure. Thanks for the good fight, Siigari and Guy, despite the infernal 6am time for us on this side of the pond. :)

You're right, the shield repping is not quite as spectacular as getting a 20 second jam on someone would be, with the resulting boom and continuing negative effect on the victim.
It's easily done from 100km, extremely detrimental, and nobody could possibly mistake the potential for modifying the outcome of a match.
Thanks for these great ideas guys, keep em coming!

Originally by: el caido elfeo and elmaster withdrawn due to availability issues. Kha0s and HuliGaNkA move onto the next round.
The truth is we withdrew because we have grown tired of dealing with an unlucky pairing of opponents. Our foes and us share a 7 hour time difference, and through our best efforts to communicate with them, the best we could ever hear from them was "talk to el caido." Our hopes was to have our pairings switched with someone at least on the same continent as us. El caido response "No...one of you has to withdraw. You can face them one on one." Option 2 would have been nice...however our setups were based on a >TEAM< strategy...I would have...if they had ever been on-line after that option had been given.
Perhaps the next time you hold a tournament of this nature, as you are going through the sign up process, you can ask people their timezones/play times. My partner and I have made every attempt to be online as much as possible in the past 4 days.
I dont mind not winning our fights...in truth we probably would have died in a brilliant and horrendous way...however I do mind taking all the time to prepare our ships, practice our tactics, move our gear, coordinate our own play times (both married/jobs/family/school) only to be told "No, one of yall have to withdraw because you happen to be paired up against someone on the other side of the planet (literally...)."
Good luck with the rest of you who are still in the fight. I watched a few matches sitting at 130 in a shuttle for a few hours on Saturday and Sunday evening.

to Elmaster.
my apologies on the outcome of your experience, and i do appreciate your foreberance in not having to many ill feelings about what happened, but as for scheduling issues, even if we did pair all first round matches for teams in the same time zones we would still run into scheduling issues later in the tourney when winning teams from around the world started to advance in the brackets, and also unfortunatley there is a point at which we just have to make a ruling(hopefully with the understanding of the players involved), so as not to unduly hold up the process for the rest of the players involved.
sincerly Jeregh.
as a ps. this is our first try at holding such a widespread tourney, with experience comes knowledge and hopefully, if we do this again it will go much less painfully for all involved

As I read the forum posts, I feel it necessary to confirm the scheduling of my teams second round match up so that there is no confussion. I have not been able to be online at a suitable time for my partner and opponents due to exam prep, but, knowing this earlier in the week, I asked my partner to confirm with our opponents which I assume he has already done.
Therefore,
Can we get a ref for a match between Aurelius Constantinus/M41NINFR4M3 vs Amon Nagira/D Dark between 21:00-22:00 in Autaris tomorrow, 31.01.08? Regardless, I will be on all day tomorrow, and so, if necessary, I can be flexible with my time (knowing I have not personally spoken to our opponents). If possible, can we get someone to frasp our match. Much appreciated.
To my partner and our opponents, thank you for your patience.
Regards,
Aur

Definatly no hard feelings Jeregh. We understand that this was a first undertaking, and there toes were going to be stepped on...it just sucks when the toes happen to be inside a pair of shoes you personally own is all. With over 170 teams taking part, there are inevitably going to be scheduling conflicts and learning pains along the way.
We look forward to the next tournament. Seeing as how I am still in the area, I may fit out a frig and join in some of the 1v1 fun some of the other pilots have been having in the area.

After our own experience, seeing all these 'withdrawals due to availability issues' makes me wonder quite seriously if this is really the case or if this is another example of El Caido screwing teams over and/or fixing the brackets.
