I'm rather confused as to what the point of having multiple Stars is? They don't seem to actually connect to each other

You can jump from star to star, even if they lack a "path" between them. Try commanding a scout ship to go to the other star and see for yourself.

What I do in this game is I push forward colonizing and defending with Hangar Defence until I have 1-3 systems cutting off access to the rest of my empire and I reinforce those systems until they're impregnable. I also love playing with allies.
I mean wow, are you just dumb or something? |

now that explains the long range jumping tech that is researchable.
I mean I know that for using wormholes you need the wormhole navigation tech, but I was pretty much "eh?" about the long range one.
oh and vasaari = win.
except the part that they are freakin' slow to start up.
once you get Returning Armada however, things get juicy ---

Don't play vasari. You'll get addicted to phase stabilizers and never play anything else.

On single-star maps, true, it's stupid NOT to go V's... you just eliminated the one single weakness they have in their phase stab network (the need to jump at normal speed from a colony near a star to that star, then through the star narrow corridor to the other star, the back at normal speed to a colony near the other star - so instead of one fast jump, you get 2 fast and 2 slow ones, plus the star jump itself). Ok, sure, it also means that on multi-star games, you can pretty much dominate one solar system quickly and with less forces (and the "free units" you get from returning dark armada is never a bad thing). Still, like many others have already said too, they're very slow to start with.

it suits my play style however.
I like to conquer 1 solar system at a time, then taking time to pretty much secure the entire system and then project myself from there to the next system, rinse and repeat.
that's why the first capital I always get with vasaari is an Evacuator \o/ ---

Great game. I keep using EVE terms as in, 'warping' from planet to planet, or, my 'drones' (hangar defense) will delay the attackers until my cap fleet jumps in.

sounds a bit like X3. Spend hours building up an empire and then boredom. X3 has it's merits but soon becomes boring once you have many factories and places earning you money as well as loads of trade ships making money for you. I amassed quite a fortune in a relatively short time but once I got the best ship in the game and the HQ from the Bala Gi missions, it got boring very rapidly.
The original Homeworld became just as boring once I had amassed a large fleet and could easily fight off the opposition. That put me off then I thought H2 would be better but alas, I was wrong. Same old, same old but with different ships and stuff. I doubt H3 will be any better.

HW1 was meant to gradually increase in difficulty as you got more ships. V interesting concept imo but broken since the better you are in the beginning the easier the game ends up being. On my second time playing through I started the final mission with 90 Ion frigs
HW2 was quite fun too, not as forfilling as HW1 but hardly disappointing or anything.
X3... building up your empire IS the point of the game, so no there isnt much to do after that. I just cleaned out the busiest Xenon sector with my Carrier+full compliment of M3 fighters - VERY fun but after that I didn't feel like playing anymore

can also use wormholes.

Edited by: Alekzander on 02/03/2008 05:29:07 This game has ruined my life worse than eve could ever have ruined it. Some how, I just managed, to pull off an 8 hour game, with 2 friends, vs 3 hard AI's, in the random huge map. 5 stars and 100+ systems = EVIL. My life is over now that I'm addicted to Sins... and now I understand the title, it is a Sin, of your budding Solar Empire, to not buy this game right now, and play till you smell of rotten eggs.
(on a less fanatical note) Great game, multiplayer is great with lots of people and ai's thrown in there for extra fun. Plus being able to save is a miracle. If you lag out like I did, somebody else can save the game, send you the saves, and you can start back up. It's great!

Wow... this game is fantastic...
I cant stop playing is the problem.., if any1 fancies a match my Ironclad name is : Koron, play most nights UK time (7:00 -> 11:00)
Its nice that the races are well balanced, tho the TEF have the best capitals imo (spider tanked shield transfer ships 4tw)
Multiplayer is great, but i find frig zerg a bit boring... :/, also most players drop the second they start to lose.. , will be great ot play with some ppl from here who will stick it out.

Really addictive game, I won my first 3 games vs easy and normal AI's and on my 4'th or 5'th game i happened to be in a position where I had 2 normal AI's each side of me and had to fortify 2 systems and i got steamrolled hard, never had so much fun losing in a game.
