Edited by: katiyara on 30/03/2004 10:13:52 ok , let me tell you alittle story please .
EnB down . (ghost town belive me) my little guild looking for a new home .
EvE was prolly our first choice . hey we all love spaceships ,and we knew couple of guys there already
we wanted to start our own little guild again - you know we are family and like . but soon we been told its VERY stupid IDEA (tm) so we asked for help ,
of course the first one to help us was ENB guild , a guild back in enb who alread got some roots in (unlike us). so we join them as soo many enb n00bs did i am sure , and really got alot of help to get our feets on the ground (so to speak)
ok so you see we all own only little frigates (love my tristan) and just started to get our feet wet . as you must guessed by now , we guild (the original people from my enb guild that just came ) that will be aimed for PVE and not PVP.
but here is an announcment we got last night in corp channel.
"WE were declaired war by some Merc Corp hiered by one of the EvE elite corps who didnt liked so many new ENB players joining an ENB corp"
well i can see the smart act behind finish your rival when he is still small . although i am not like the idea marked rival cause i am there .
i dont think that act was pretty much illegit game way , although as i said hunting down enb players simply cause they enb players is a bit wrong dont you think ?
so unless i gonna be able to beat a battleship with my little frigate what you think gonna happen ?
true, we move to another world were new guys are abit more welcomed.
as much as i thanked this guy who chated with me and gave me tips , and though "oh what a wonderfull communitiy" one bad apple can ruin the whole basket u know.. and its not one .
so i guess those corp doin the right step for em.
i dont think i for one can have a fair chance in any pvp yet , i dont want pvp (yet) but again no one asked me . and not even staying in 1.0 space would help me now.
so ccp i dont know about anyone else here if they would care or anything about us , but i reckon you guys wont want to loose around 80 people who just arrived .
but if game gonna be hell for me , i sure as hell packing my stuff and moving away ,i know we all thinking the same .
and just to answer some Q before they asked:
no i aint moving to another corp just to surivive i play with my friends and not with some local bullies .
so judge as you will please , and thank you for reading my storry . [edited for horriable grammer and spelling]

As it stands every corporation has at least one war slot (I dont know if they have several but I'm sure someone else will answer that). They can use this to declare a one-sided war on anyone. Nothing to do about that except wait for them to get bored and move on to something thats actually worthwhile. I would suggest that since you have "got your feet wet" so to speak, you split off and start your own corporation. If you stick around empire space, do missions, hunt for NPC pirates in belts etc. I'm sure you'll get a foothold soon enough. Alternately you can try to contact an alliance to join and/or work out some sort of deal where you get to operate in their space in return for a fixed amount of minerals/isk every now and then.

Wow thats a really nasty thing for someone to do. I am very surprised someone would say they are starting a war because you are e&b players and also very stupid. I would say this come's under griefing and you might be able to file a petition about it. Make you have this info in a log or something if you do then you can do something. if not read on.
The first thing to do is find out what you can about the merc corp that has been hired to attack you guys. then find out who there enimies are and then sort something out. most merc corps have lots of enimies allready so there should be no problem there.
Another thing is to find someone bigger than them to help you guys out.
what is the name of the merc corp that has been hired and what is the name of the corp that hired them?

you can gain much from a war. Territory, honor, stations and being well known are few of the things. EVE isn't a carebear universe (yet) so just bite the bullet and go on. Try and keep a low profile for a short while, the war might end pretty quickly. If you know who hired the mercs try talking to the CEO of that corp. Or hire protection. If you have many members I'm pretty sure SOMEONE in a entire corp can actually fight back? Perhaps you can pay the mercs to leave you be?
Btw, welcome to EVE

Normally war won't be declared without reason on your corp. So there is no problem with this system. If some corp declares war on your corp, then you at least anoyed them.
But hey! ...this EnB-reason is really bull****.

Declare war on the corp that hired the mercinaries. Sure you wonŠt kill a BS in a frigate but also a BS will not kill a frigate that doesnŠt want to be killed. Declaring war on someone that doesnŠt want to go to war is pointless as was probably best shown by Jerico Fraction versus Forsaken Empire war. In the end FE decided that this was pointless and retracted the war.

War is hard on newb characters no matter what corp you're in. But you can usually catch the warring corp with it's pants down somewhere...espeically in Empire space.
Pay attention and watch for those little orange dots (especially singular orange dots) and have fun...newb ships can usually carry 2 auto-cannons, light ions or whatever and have fun. Newbie ships are free and small short range guns are cheap...and who knows you may score a cruiser if a group of you gets lucky.

thats just sad.
I can't understand that people would deliberately go after newbie players. Its already hard enough to make your first steps into a game like Eve, without having to worry about the older players just getting single shot 1400 kills just for kicks.
Is it so hard to put yourself in their position, and think how hard it would have been for you when people mined away all your ore in apocs and blow up your hard earned ship just for fun, when you were just starting??
When I was just starting (3 weeks after launch) we had a level playing field, we were hunted by pirates (and other corp's we were at war with) but they were in the same ships we were in. So it was fun, we had the chance of payback. Now new players face impossible odds when warring an older corp.
We need some self regulation on this, otherwise CCP will force it on us by nerfing every fun part out of the game in order to protect the new players.
And for this particular case: killing EnB players is not the solution, CCP will need upgrade their architecture. Personally I welcome all EnB players (the more the better, if the servers can handle it), and know this, if you make it through the first difficult weeks, I consider you more l337 than the silly gankers who try to make life difficult on you.
hang in there.

If you all are new to eve find someone with experience you may trust and receive hints from them. Most ppl are ready to help newbies but finding someone you also are able to trust might be more difficult. If you trust my face & sig try with me when I'm online ;)
At the end of the day this should not be such an enourmous threat to you and might even make the game more fun.

actually this is a major problem that goes well beyond the enb players. This gives larger corps a huge advantage over the small ones by alloiwing them to declare a one sided war and be able to fire on them anywhere and concord will just sit and watch. New corporations deserve te same protection as new players. if not then just remove the safe sectors entirely. once war is engaged all memebr of that corp are vulnerable at any time for the next 24 hours. this game is large enough for pve and pvp and if givn a chance alot of those pve players would eventually drift into a the pvp side of the world. It is one thing to make a valid case against one sided declared wars it is quite another to cry and threaten to leave the game instead of fighting back which you can do. Tis is a solid game top to bottom frigates are cheap you can get one for 10 to 20k. icloning is cheap considering the average age of a enb migrant is about a week. Demanding protection from concord for guerrilla attacks in high secure space defeats the whole reason that space is there. I also wouldnt be surprised if this corp instigating the whole matter wasnt noticing drops in their high seure strop mining operations

Well the E&B reason for a war is a bit stupid but I guess that is just an excuse.
Fact is that even if someone does declare a war on you and you do not wish to fight it is very easy to avoid the enemy in EVE.
Yes it may cause inconvenience to move mining locations, bases etc but if your enemy can't find you he can't shoot you...
PIE for instance has 13 active wars and has been at war since the game started. As a result we have a very decentralised structure and you rarely get more than 3/4 of our pilots sharing a system unless we are on a specific corp op.
Always keep and eye on local get your members used to it. Send out scouts. Find out where the enemy bases are and keep an eye on their fleet movements... If you are having a mining op keep a scout in the system next door on the lookout.
A war certainly doesn't have to devastate a corp if you have even a small amount of intelligence

What discoporation said.
Seriously, if you can find out who it was that hired the mercs declare war on them. If you find that they are in an alliance that 'claims' space, take your 80 frigs and move into that alliance's backyard. Frigates are fast and agile enough that they can run most blockades and avoid combat they don't want. No sane alliance wants 80 frigs killing off their production and podding their miners; make sure you explain why you're doing what you're doing when you pod other alliance members though. This effectively puts political pressure on that corp : the other alliance members will not be amused.
If it's an empire based corp, camp the highways (yulai, amarr, new caldari, etc) with packs of frigs. Be ruthless; make sure you pod them. Experienced players tend to have tens of millions in implants that they lose when podded. Hunt down their haulers and any isolated groups of miners. That many players (if they are actively playing) gives you a lot of 'power', which might be why you got targeted.
And, despite some of the earlier posts, don't go up against battleships. You *might* be able to take one down, but being a new corp with probably low skill points and not much knowledge you'd probably lose a lot of ships. Drones and FOF missiles are certain death for frigates that attack battleships, and most battleship pilots have both.
5 or 6 frigs with heavy missiles can destroy a hauler in seconds. They can take down a heavy cruiser in 30 seconds or less. A larger pack, say 15 or so, could vaporize a heavy cruiser in one salvo.
If you have 80 active pilots willing to fight, you should fear no one.

Just checked the corp wars and Merc Frigs appear to be the chaps.
Well the good news is that Merc Frigs are entertaining opponents.
Their name implies they only fly frigates, whilst this is true in the main, if you start to field battleships / cruisers against them, they will reciprocate.
Personally I chose to engage them with my character 'Gunstar Zero' in a frigate. Well to be fair it was an elite frigate (Crow), but I thought it was more in the spirit of things (and hey for the advantage I gained, I was 2 cruise missiles away from losing an uninsurable 7.5mill)
I think I'm right in saying that alot of MF are alts and dont pilot fancy ships, Vigils with heavy missiles *seem* to be the mainstay. Azziza Meekstone may appear in her scorp though, so watch out. They have numbers though, and are well organised.
My Advice: Take a week out from your normal activities, and engage them in frigates. It will be great fun, and you will learn alot about empire PvP. They're fairly civil and wont engage in any smacktalk, if unprovoked.

Yesterday my corp Starfleet Elite Rangers got a war declaration from a corp called Klingon Empire apparently just for the reason that we have "Starfleet" in our name Our name has nothing to do with StarTrek though.
It seems they are only a two man corp so I'm not sure what will come of this :-)

Gratz on your first war!
EVE is a PvP game, you can keep it to a minimum but you can't avoid it. The people who have the most fun in this game are the people who embrace that.
Not suggesting you all turn into hardcore PvP'ers. Just build on what you have - friendship. Stick together and gank lone ships in frigates. For some tips on frigate combat msg me in game.

Welcome to Eve . If you know the corporation who sicced MF on you, I would out them. If they're a high profile corp or one that's part of a big alliance, the embarrasment may be enough to get the Merc contract canceled.
Otherwise, "go to the mattresses" and fight a guerilla war as suggested by others here. Good luck.
One good thing about being new - not much to lose.
Best of luck
P.S. If the Corp. really is after you for being EnB refugees, that is antithetical to enlarging the player base (which Eve needs) and is REALLY LAME. --------------

If you are still in frigates, then I really doubt you will have to fight them at all. Frigates with MWDs are the perfect vessels to avoid fights, so the corps will get bored and retract the war.
I don't think your life will be like hell, it will be more like a Forest Gump movie, which could be quite amusing and gives you some fun during boring travels aswell.

I'm gonna have to disagree to a point. Sure it is fun to fight in frigates but as you probably want this war over as soon as possible. My advice would be never engage them at all. Only attack the miners and agent goers of the corp that hired them. Mercenary frigates will get bored because you never fight them and the corp that hired them will lose money of the disrupted mining missions. __________ Capacitor research |
