Dust Puppy is right.
Merc frigates pilots will have more skillpoints, and a lot more experience in pvp in eve. Find out the corp that hired them and make them pay a price. They almost certainly have far more to lose than you do.

Well, its a question of how you go about things - If you can evade MF, it's a valid tactic - they will get bored. But make sure ALL your corp know not to take that indy through highway systems.
However,
AFAIK they tend to work on a week by week basis. Whether you engage them or not, they will be sat in empire hotspots waiting for passing easy targets.
Secondly, yes they will have more experience, but not neccessarily more skillpoints. Check back for some MF recruitment posts, a proportion of them are low skill point, no clone, no implant alts. Vigils with heavy missiles seemingly the ship of choice.
Of course if you find the corp that hired them, hire some mercs of your own. Reikoku are excellent, or perhaps us.

Quote: Declaring war on someone that doesnŠt want to go to war is pointless as was probably best shown by Jerico Fraction versus Forsaken Empire war. In the end FE decided that this was pointless and retracted the war.
This is a bit offtopic, so I'll be quick about it: they were the ones that refused to fight. If they had any intention to fight they would have come hunting us, instead of whining about us not coming to them in the ships they wanted us to come in...
But anyway, my advice: ditch the Tristan, get an Incursus and assemble a possy. Great for a little bit of combat training and experience, which is never wrong to have - in EVE and otherwise.
BTW Dusty, come say hello to my playmate, Mr. Crud Puppy, sometime.

well i can see the smart act behind finish your rival when he is still small . although i am not like the idea marked rival cause i am there .
I really would not even worry about it. All you have to do is pick up your stuff, and move 15-20 systems away. They'll never find you.
As for the idea that some corp hired some mercs to beat down a fledgling corporation, if anybody is actually stupid enough to tell you that in a conversation, log it and petition. I really doubt CCP would take kindly to that kind of attitude.
Or, pick a few people from your corp that are interested in fighting, make an alliance with another corp and go beat the pants off those mercs.

Well this just goes to show the evidence that some people will go to just to grief others.
If you get continued harrassment from them, you can petition CCP.
Would be nice to get a Dev's view on this? Its not in the interests of any of us for people to be hounded out of the game before they can find their own feet.
MAYBE wars should be banned in 0.8-1.0 systems? That would help noobs in this situation and not impact much on advanced players games either.

Careful, "Mercenary" Frigates only act as Mercenaries when it suits them (ie When they get paid to harass and annoy plyers, as opposed to just doing it anyway), and they only ever use Frigates when they feel the need to puff up their own egos by proclaiming "we destroyed that Battleship111".

We're not in this to kill E & B players, we were simply hired (as far as I know) to target thier corp, for whatever reason.
Personally I'm not agiast newbies playing in any way, they are what will keep the game progressing. Hopefully the game will improve some more in the future so they dont get bored. But they were just subjected to part of the game, and that part of the game is known as, "combat". If all the newbies do is mine, thats all they will know how to do. If they get a taste of combat, they will have a better idea of what to do, and can learn from it.

facts about us [merc frigs] 1= we were paid to declare war on celestial horizons just like we have been paid 50 times b4] not because you are a bunch of enb players[ we had no idea]
2= we are not all alts [ when we 1st started a year ago i was the only main] now tho we are at a 50/50 main/alt ratio, [ not that this matters, who doesnt have an alt somewhere doing something..]
3= we dont mine, we dont hunt npc's and we dont run missions. so as to the rumor we declared on celestial horizons to stop the strip mining of belts is false. we get paid to fight cuz we like to its our way to have fun, just like some people have fun mining/missions etc.
4= we would stay in frigs 100% of the time if are enemies did the same. but as it us declaring war, we will not cry when our foes show up in bs's hell we expect it, it is war you dont gotta fight us fair , we dont expect you to, but we will do a best to inflict as much damage and restrict you movements as possible. most time we are hired as a distraction but we take our toll and we do lose ships[alot] but to us its fun.

Always fancied the idea of an ongoing war, but would prefer to have it when its convienient for me. How much of a "Gen-x" attitude is THAT eh?

Ohwell, today it started and there was a fight. I wasn't there but from my more trained guys I heard we killed at least a bunch of MF Blackbirds and assorted frigs.
I have no numbers, but after I logged in I killed a straggler so I'm happy :) ------------------------------------------ I am a love machine, feeding my fantasy, give me a kiss or three, have fun!

I find this very hard to believe. Only a couple of us even fly blackbirds (one is me and I wasn't there).

No, its a corp that was started by EnB players by a well known person in the EnB community, Tarpeia, who started in this game around december. He made a couple posts between december and January on the EnB forums about how great eve was and got players to move on over to eve. I was convinced by one of his threads (maybe his only?) amungst other reasons to give eve a shot back in early January. I didn't join his corp, but others from that time frame probably did. So, looking at my own skill points to get a general picture, the best EnB people moving over to eve probably have around 1.5-2mil skill points, which is more than adequate to be a kick ass frigate pilot and a competant cruiser pilot and enough to be in a battleship.

Yes, CLS is generally a corp of EnB n00bs. Some people have been playing the game for longer though. Rest is on a need-to-know basis.

If you bothered to read omri's post, you'd know we don't "only fly frigates". This seems to be the assumption of many people, but none of us has ever claimed it to be true. Dude said "at least a bunch of blackbirds" which doesn't seem right since we've never fielded more than 2 at a time (maybe "a bunch" means 2?)
Anyways, in the words of beloved world leader and all around regular guy George W. Bush - bring it on! --------------------------------------------------------------

First off:
1st rule of Eve.
Fight don't complain. In a way this is a complement and has increased your standing in the game world. When FE declared war on Jericho Fraction we laughed and laughed. For an established power to make war on a smaller (or newer) power is a compliment and will increase your rep and esteem at the cost of theirs.
2nd rule of Eve.
Don't fight on your enemy's terms. Run away from "fair" fights. Learn to use safe-spots, learn to use agent scouting, divide your corp between "skirmish" troops to tie them down and "support" players to keep the war effort moving. Do not fight their large ships. Bore them to death! Wait until they are so bored they hang themselves and then attack their more vulnerable assets.
3rd rule of Eve.
Morale and reputation is everything. Don't let your people whine or complain in local or on the forums. Ensure they fight in ships they can afford to replace (or you can replace for them). No-one should cry in local at losing a ship or getting podded. "game face" is everything. You are the underdogs in this war and just surviving it is a "victory". Your goal is the fight and maintain morale until MF are humiliated or bored or their contract money is gone.
***
Specifically use frigates, don't even dream of putting half-experienced people into cruisers because an experienced frigate pilot with blow the crap out of your cruisers 2 at a time and your morale will suffer.
Isolate the skills your novices need and go for them.
In my view here is the way you should go:
Minmatar Frigate (Vigil, Breacher, Rifter) Cruise Missiles, light projectile Afterburner, MWD, Propulsion jamming, Navigation
Your goal is to have a good proportion of your corporation flying Breacher class frigates with the following config.
3 m12 standard 1 projectile gun 1 mwd 1 webifier 2 cap relays.
This should be doable within a couple of weeks.
(why not the kestrel? because in my experience its a sitting duck in a less skilled pilots hands. it takes a lot more skill points to fly a kestrel well that is required to run a breacher. trust me on this)
Buy the blueprints for this equipment and manufacturer *many ships*. always insure them in combat (even frigates) all insurance payouts go back to the corp to buy more minerals. By doing this you will make your war effort a sustainable operation that is effectively immortal.
***
In combat the mwd breacher outruns enemy missiles and will close to 10klicks web the target and destroy with its own cruise missiles. Practise the approach, orbit, and manual battle passes, eventually the timing will be second nature.
Its not a surefire win, and it takes skill and reflexes and anticipation, but you will score kills. As your pilots get better you will be able to take on cruisers and industrials and all types of frigates.
Set up a leaderboard in your corp ... have "rated aces" ... award people for scoring 5 MF kills. Promote your decent squadron leaders and then when your people shine through and show inspiration its time to take the war to the enemy and blast them to bits. Your good pilots will be hell on wheels for the MF and will harrass them and hassle them constantly (nobody likes being podded 5 times and evening)
Eventually MF will retreat from using frigates and lurk in Battleships (you win the PR war) or they will simply leave you alone.
But for the love of god don't listen to that Deadflip guy ... this is not a petitioning issue. Its a war within the rules of the game and you must see this as an opportunity not a slap in the face.
Your corp will flourish if you play this right.
Lots and love, and long live the star fraction ;)

Edited by: Flynn Walker on 31/03/2004 02:40:49 Just figured I'd post a screenshot of the field, hope this is alright with the corp.
But as you can see, they simply had tons of frigates out, and a few cruisers and 2 battleships. The frigates didnt do anything, some attacked but most appears to just be afk players (the ships were not empty as far as I could tell).
Now, if they would have attacked us, we would have been so screwed because we were obviously severly out numbered. On top of that the lag was horrible (I thought they fixed fleet battle.

Hmm not quite. Our loses: a Caracal, A Blackbird(maybe not sure) 4-6 Frigs. Celestial Horizons loses approx: 1 Megathron, least 4-6 Blackbirds, 1 MOA, Apoc(Damaged not destroyed), 50+ frigs. After the Battle it was showing 89 ship kills in the last hour. Not trying to brag just getting the facts straight.
