Hmm, I suppose that it does go into both catogries but most seem to call it a Harem genre for obvious reasons given the cast.
Originally by: Bigeasy Shakugan no Shana is an ongoing series ive been watching, its good stuff i recommend it.
Got a bit slow and I stopped following around ep 12 of season 2 - any action yet as it seemed to be just a slice of life so far

It gets far, far better in the last few episodes IMO.
The best part is when you realize, suddenly, that its science fiction, not fantasy. Its sort of like the realization in Haruhi that its science fiction, not high school drama.

Yeah, I guess you are right. A Dating game sim made into an Anime would kinda HAVE to be harem, wouldn't it? I just figured that since it had so little "fanservice" in it, I couldn't lump it in with Love Hina or those others.
And I cannot believe I forgot Last Exile! I have the Poster (well, I did until It got ruined by my kids) and BOTH OST's, not to mention the BOXED SET DVD collection. How the heck did I miss that one? I must be slipping.

Well, yes it does have more romance than the normal harem anime, I grant you and thats part of it's appeal to me. And no sweat about LE, too much good stuff tor remember it all.

I already knew the whole "Haruhi is God" thing (though not in detail) before watching Haruhi. Its impossible to avoid that spoiler, much like not knowing that Rosebud is indeed his sled, or that Snape kills Dumbledore. Originally by: DarknessInc there are few ideas but why hasnt anyone mentioned Gunslinger girl. I just remembered I also saw that and Elfen Lied XD.. and I watched EL little mini episodes
Don't watch Gunslinger Girl season 2 then. It has become /a/'s classic example of a series that was "moeified" to the extreme.

I wouldn't have called Last Exile fantasy at any point.
Guns, industry, airplanes, and a lack of any "magic" really goes against the whole fantasy genre.
Also, remembered a couple other really great shows. Mobile Battleship Nadesico (I seem to recall adv renamed it to something stupid when they lisenced it but don't know what it was) Now and then here and there - A truly dark, but amazing show. ---

Steampunk isn't really science fiction though either.

I suppose, but steampunk tends to rely on technology as key element of its setting, something which traditional sci-fi also does. However, the boundaries between genres are very blurry, and it generally comes down to personal view in the end.
ItĘs a lot like the split between Science Fiction, and Military Science Fiction, which as a writer of the latter, consistently annoys me. ---

Edited by: Karma on 13/02/2008 22:09:51 been watching bleach since it started airing.. and I have to say the first 16-or-so episodes are a hundred times better than all of the episodes after that put together.
... not too sure I should mention this show or not... anyone who liked elfen lied should probably check out Narutaru (note: not naruto. two very different shows)... Narutaru isn't very bloody, compared to Elfen Lied... but it'll scramble your brains ten times as bad :P
going on... Last Exile is indeed an incredible series. and if you like the art and feel of it, you might want to check out Haibane Renmei. nearly no action, but very very grand series. another show that reminds me of last exile, in the *other* sense, is Eureka 7.
and finally.. Outlaw Star FTW!! besides having some of the coolest characters in anime-history ... also two of the best Ending themes in the same.

My recomendations:
-Ghost Hound (currently airing, subed till ep 12, writen by the writer of Lain, Texhnolyze and RahXephon) -Texhnolyze (a bit hard to get, but well worth it) -Serial Experiments Lain (Notice a pattern here? )
-Claymore -Tenjo Tenge -Ergo Proxy -Inocent Venus -Paprika (movie) -Evangelion Movies if you haven't (Death and Rebirth and End of Evangelion)
I would recomend Death Note, but after a certain person dies, it just goes downhill to the point it is no longer good.
Honerable Mentions: -Pale Cocoon -Ikkitousen (1st series, 2nd one sucks) -FLCL -Jigoku Shoujo and Jigoku Shoujo Futakomori

Dragon Destiny was... meh. Just fanservice. At least the first series had a plot and some good plot twists.

Well, in my opinion the series should have ended the episode right before N appeared.

Agreed. Or at least, in the actual ending, N should have died. The fact that he lives forever taints the series for me

It means things are modified so as to look overly and unnecessarily "cute" at the expense of everything else. Its most obvious in animation style, but a classic example of an extremely overly-"moe" anime is Lucky Star (often described as an "moepedo" anime). "Moe" is often seen as a very negative trend in modern anime.
