sorry to add to tech support's load... i sympathise.
My ping test in the "cmd" screen worked fine. But still get URL error on all tabs. cannot connect. i dont know about firewalls but i never installed one. the built in windows firewall once asked if i should allow eve connections and i said always allow.
is there a simple URL properties in the launcher that needs fixing? help please. all this started after patch.

ok, my 26000 port test failed looking into it. will be back
only why is this port suddenly blocked and/or needed when it wasnt before? annoying. anyway looking into the fix method you provided. dont answer my previous post yet

i cant figure out my firewall software well enough to find this 26000 port block. but on the good side, i just disabled the firewall completely and now Eve works. thanks to Eve tech support for the fix! i can play!
However this worries me... why does the patch suddenly change the firewall requirements?
I am using the norton internet security that came with the computer. For the layman, this is much too much to worry about... I like the "idea" of the firewall, but at the same time, I'm sure some hacker out there has already found a way around my firewall... yet, i feel better with it running than not (average run of the mill spy ware and such is still blocked when its running).
Why does the patch require this much work? why change the connection requirements so much that the firewall stops recognising your app?
I'm sure you have good reasons... anyway, i'm just happy i am back in eve verse. later

OK... i just went to sleep and thought it might be resolved when i come back. So im seeing the issue is probably with routers, because people here post theyre on routers. So the thing worked fine yesterday, and it doesnt work today. Please, are you really gonna cop out that its not a CCP problem? Youre kidding right?
I bought this router 4 days ago, and its one of those new ones where you dont have to manually assign IPs, you just plug in the computers and it does it on its own.
This is simply ridiculous!
Ill check the port 26000 thing, but to see a ccp guy come here and post "its not our fault" when it obviously is, since all our games were working before the patch... thats pretty lame.

And by the way, i cant ping any servers on the internet. But i can connect to them in my browser just fine. I havent used a router in years. But at a glance, i can see that since i cant ping any servers, and still connect to them, obviously my problem isnt that i cant ping the eve server. Now ive let the router port forward 26000 on 87.237.38.200, and it still cant connect through the game.
So... what now

And if a CCP guy comes here and tells me one more time that its my fault, i want my money back.

I just took off the router... rebooted my comp, connected through modem, and i still get status: unknown. So does it mean that the patch corrupted my client? I dont wanna spend an hour re-doing my settings but i guess now that i will re-install the client and take it from there...

Ok... now ive re-installed the client, logged to game, and i get this status: unknown again without any mention of an invalid protocol...

Before you tell me:
" #1 Press START and select Run on Windows XP, in Vista, press START and paste the link into "Start search" ( which is directly above the START button " Easiest is to use the Windows button on your keyboard + R ( works on both Vista and XP ).
#2 Copy "%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\CCP" ( without the " ) into the address bar of the window that opened and press Enter. Remove the folder called "EVE". "
When i paste %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\CCP i get a BOING pop up that tells me windows cannot find the file.

Well i had to find the /ccp/eve folder all by myself since the search wasnt working... and no one from CCP posted the info that on windows xp the folder you have to delete is in:
C:documents and settings/nameofyourcomputer/local settings/application data/ccp/eve
I deleted the EVE folder , and im STILL getting status:unknown
This is starting to get on my nerves, in my 8 years of MMO gaming ive never seen such a mess...
I mean, ive seen bad patches that servers had to roll back, and wait for hours for the servers to come back on... but doing everything myself? Troubleshooting a patch? I cant imagine someone who was never played with windows much having to do that kind of troubleshooting...

Please keep this thread clean from people that have the "Incompatible protocol"-issue. This thread is about people that have the "Status: Unknown"
For those of you who have the "Incompatible protocol" look at this:

Ok... but since i tried everything related to status: unknown
AKA opening up port 26000 on my router, disconnecting the router, connecting with only the modem, uninstalling the game... 3 times, i decided to try the clearing the old patch data thing...
Were kind of in the dark here, you guys working on something to fix this issue?
And since its been a day, are we going to get a free day, or some skill point boost for this mess? I mean, its just a day, but on principle... and for the fact that we have to fix this thing ourselves.

Try launching the client. Changing to window mode and see if there is a windows firewall pop up asking you "Do you want to allow this program?"

Can we stop pretending the patch never happened?
GM sunshine is making people test their firewalls like if it wasnt patch day and loads of people didnt have this problem at the same time, and that everyones game was just installed and had to configure their routers.
Did you guys change something in the patch related to firewalls or routers?
If you messed up just come out and say it and stop making us try a thousand things that youre gonna fix with an emergency patch soon...
No im not pinging any servers, but im using a web browser, and i bet i couldnt ping anything before the patch, because im using the same router, with the same settings, except that i could log on to eve before the patch with the exact same settings.

This problem has not been reported by a lot of people, which makes us believe that it is limited to a selected few. We don't believe that this is because of the 1.02 nor the 1.03 patch. If you want help solving this problem, check out GM Sunshines reply and do what he instructs you to do. To get in contact with customer support you need to file a petition. Connection related issues should be filed under the Technical issues category.

And i count 17 different people in 2 threads that reported the status: unknown problem, youre gonna tell me that this is not alot of people and that by the grandest of luck we all have the same problem after the patch and it is unrelated to it?
I just changed my account from a 3month pre-paid to a 1month paid and im this close<- to canceling it.
On a final note, you know what? **** this S. Its not like this is 1999 and the only MMO out there is ever*****. This is the worst thing i ever saw in 8 years of MMO gaming. You wanted to get rid of me, well, it worked. Enjoy my 20$ for the first month, im out.
If this was an issue that affected a large portion of our players, we would have had a lot more petitions and forum threads about it. Like I said before, please follow the instructions from GM Sunshine, then just like he told you, file a petition and they will help you sort out this problem.

People dont log in every day... so you might have some people who will log today and go wtf?
But as i said, i dont care, my account is canceled. The tipping point was being told that us being unable to connect was unrelated to the patch... i mean... lol

i have an hint for you guys:
yesterday i change my antivir programm from zonealarm to the new norton 360.
as i see now norton detects the eve file alright and set a rule. but the rule appears to malfunction. as i uninstall norton 360 now eve works fine.. install norten 360 eve is unable to connect. now i use zonealarm again and also eve works fine. so we can say eve and symantec have a problem with each other. i dont know if the mistake is on the side of symantec or ccp.
please investigate.... have a nice day

Edited by: Ciaphas Khaine on 20/02/2008 17:32:39 atch. In responce the post above, i am using zone alarm at the moment and after i reinstalled eve, it still didnt work. However, once i turned off zone alarm, EVE had me re-install the most recent patch. Something is def up between EVE <---> fire walls. I will add however, that i know for a fact that I am allowing eve to run through my fire wall as I had checked this like 4 times earlier

Originally by: CCP Casqade Some firewalls detect changes in programs signature when they get updated/patched, and should prompt the user asking if they want to allow the new signature. If it does not prompt the user for action and instead blocks the changes, this could result in your firewall blocking access of the eve client.
If you have this problem, try setting the eve client manually to Allow. Or remove the rule made by the firewall and set it again.
What i been trying to tell you is that this *doesnt* work. Ive tried it. nada. What im doing now is uninstalling my zone alarm and reinstalling it, hopefully this will work out any kinks. ill reply once ive seen the results

Originally by: Ortenz Brick Edited by: Ortenz Brick on 20/02/2008 17:50:11 Edited by: Ortenz Brick on 20/02/2008 17:46:48 Well i gotta say im sorry for being an *******, but i am only half sorry. You are sure to make people not happy, to say the least, if you say that the problem isnt with the patch when theres 20 people telling you that after the patch, they cant log to the server.
But... i think we got this problem pinpointed. I also have zone alarm and when i turned it off, i could log to eve again, after patching for the protocol thing. So im sorry if i was a bit mean with you, but only half sorry, because the problem is obviously something that happened with the patch. Zone alarm always asks me when a program was changed if i want to let it access the internet. It never happened to me in 3 years of using it that ZA doesnt ask me after a prog is modified if i want to let it access the internet. But if it was a ZA problem, i am sorry for being a complete *******
But to think about it, one of the first thing i checked was if eve was allowed in the firewall, and eve.exe is nowhere to be found. I see Evemon fine, but not eve.exe
Hey. No hard feelings from my side. I know how frustrated you can get with these problems. I also want to clarify that when I say that there is "nothing wrong with the patch", I meant that the patch itself did not change something on your computer, it wasn't "broken" and we didn't change anything with the network code. I apologize if I didn't make that clear.
I wish you better luck in the future.
