Well... you were right after all, it wasnt the patch...
The problem on my side was resolved by closing down zone alarm once, and once it was restarted, when i loaded eve, it did ask me if i wanted to let eve access the internet.
So... my apologies to you casqade
Its been a long time since ive done QA and it shows.
Sorry again, i feel like a chump for taking it out on you

Whatever, the CCP guys who gave suggestions in here have been entirely useless in solving this problem. If you noticed, it was players who found the solution.
Essentially, the problem is DEF! with Zone Alarm, more specifically, it starts blocking EVE post patch with no info window popping up asking you if you want to allow the modified form of EVE to work. Solutions: For some people apparently all you need to do is close down Zone Alarm, and then turn it back on, this, however, did not work for me
Second Fix: uninstall your old Zone Alarm, and download/reinstall a new copy. While doing this make sure you have the most recent patch of EVE, then reinstall Zone Alarm, activate it, and turn on EVE. Zone Alarm will then ask you to verify whether you want to let EVE to be trusted, say yes and there you have it

Well, they did suspect it was a firewall thing. I did too but i forgot about it once i checked it, which was one of the first things i did. My problem is that eve.exe doesnt appear in my firewall, but since it had never been a problem before (AKA ZA always asked me if eve could access the net), i kinda let it go and tried some other troubleshooting.

alrighty then...
Got the same unknown thing going on. I did try the ping thing and it shows some red stuff to the right :D mostly london stuff but also a bit copenhagen stuff. (Dane here)
I did try the window mode to see if the firewall said anything but it didnt. I did click the pettition link but the page aint there :P
I'm not sure what the zone alarm is all about but I'm gonna shotdown my router later and hopefully that will help tomorrow when I turn it back on, I'm just to annoyed about this problem to do it now.
anyways.... everything works fine here with downloads and stuff execpt my msnmessenger wich is *****ing about proxy and ports ? dunno if that has anything to do with anything it just happen to start at the same time as this problem.
hopefully I will get the game working again tomorrow otherwise I'm just gonna start playing EQ2 again, it sucks but atleast I didnt have any problems with them for 3 years.

Actually they made it pretty clear that it was a firewall issue right from the start. Unfortunately that ties their hands. It means that the computer operator (ie;you) needs to fix it. Your computer is your responsibility and only you can modify the configuration.
Even if CCP had the power to reconfigure your computer for you (which they don't) it would raise so many legal and ethical issues that they wouldn't dare. -- (Sarcastic mission running veteran)

Just turned of Norton antivirus Personal firewall and now I'm back in bussiness, got people on the server now :P
everybody with this issue should check their antivirus programs for firewalls especially Norton antivirus.

Cool. You probably don't want to be running without a firewall for long but at least you know the cause. I've had some real hassle with firewalls over years. I've even had the Windows Firewall refusing to let the Windows DNS server through. Firewalls are useful utilities but when they go wrong they can be a right PITA. -- (Sarcastic mission running veteran)

In my case it seems my ISP is blocking port 26000 for some reason. I eliminated all the other possibilities I could think of before reaching that conclusion. I will have to call them about that tomorrow.
Anyway, if you are in my situation you might try to change the port from 26000 to 3724 and see if that works. Some ISPs have the habbit of blocking higher ports.
You can read how you can change the port here. Good luck.

I turned the auto-protect off and it fixed it temporarily, but now I'm still waiting half of forever to verify the server status and I sometimes get the right one and sometimes get unknown.. -

In the middle of playing the game [was docked, thankfully] my connection to the server timed out. I tried to log back in but it threw up a status: unknown.
Trying to log in with my details gave this error:
Could not connect to the specified address. Odds are that you have not established an internet connection, the server isn't running, or the server address or port number was wrong.
I cannot ping the IPs given or connect on telnet.
NO changes have been made on my side, firewall or router-wise. I ensured EVE.exe was allowed, then deleted and reapplied, then disabled firewall and anti-virus. None of the above proved fruitful.
I am running windows XP on a stable internet connection from Australia. If this could be solved soon that'd be nice, since my skill training finished a few minutes after I first got disconnected and it's been a few hours now.

There was a huge routing issue it seemed from the llnw network in the US to the UK.
Through level3 it worked, was looking at the eve website through a server on a different link and it worked.

I've just read this thread front to back, having had the same issues myself. I at first discounted a firewall prob, as i tried starting Eve without it running... somehow however that didn't help and Zonealarm showed the .exe as having Full Access
Here's what fixed it for me for Zonealarm users; -Find CCP Exefile under programs -Delete the entry -Start up Eve and minimise so as to re-allow the Eve executable -Should work (Did for me)
Hope it helps someone

Same thing happened to me just a few hours ago. I rebooted my computer and still no connection to eve or there web page. I ran a few Traceroutes and keep getting stuck at ccp.ve201.fr3.lon.llnw.net. So i finally rebooted my modem and router and like 10 seconds later EveMon kicked in and showed the sever was up for me. (My dad was playing this hole time so i knew it up the hole time) I don't know if this will help anyone but it worked for me.

According to some people on IRC, the cluster went down. It would be nice if they'd just put up a quick message on the News portion of the website. Save some speculation and hassle in the forums.
On a related topic, there was definitely a routing problem for people connecting via Livermore's router (llnw.net) earlier that eventually resolved itself. But I suppose we already pretty much know that by now... :)

I just tried again and I am getting a dialog box saying starting up in 126s...
So, the server is being restarted i guess...

Most likely why alot of people coudln't report on the issue would be since most of us couldn't even log into the forums. Personally, My firewall was disabled and couldn't connect to eve during the time everyone else had issues. Had the same "Status: Unknown" Message. However now it appears the server is starting up, so it was discovered this is an issue on ccp's side?
So what happened mate?

OK, this is what I got. This morning, everything working. Tonight, get the new patch 1.03 and everything stops. On two computers. Neither runs Windows Firewall, one is XP Pro SP2, the other XP Media Center with SP2. All behind a Cisco hardware firewall.
Ping came back as timed out. Started looking at some of the posts and info. So I started looking at some things. Telnet session failed too.
Started thinking: Why would a patch change something. So I started to fool around. As I mentioned before I don't use the Windows Firewall, I turn off the service. So I turned it back on but made sure the the program was off. So service started but program set to off.
Guess what, ping responded.
So if you run something like Norton, Trend, McAfee or some other firewall and it goes around the Windows firewall or you turn off that service you may have trouble.
I won't tell you how to fix it but this should give geeks something to look at and CCP something to think about just in case the patch tells the program or windows to do something different then it did before because I think we all can agree "If it worked before and all that was changed was the patch then maybe the patch did something?".
Cheers
