This option from GM Sunshine's fixes isn't even operable or at least that is what my machine is saying no matter how many ways I try to type it.
2. Write 'telnet 87.237.38.200 26000' and wait for the process to finish. If the Command Prompt gives you an error and fails, you are most likely running a firewall of some sort which is blocking the traffic from your computer to our servers. You will need to fix that. However, if the window generates some scrambled letters, you are successfully contacting the servers and you'll need to make a pingplotter test with further connection info.

try leaving out the punctuation marks either side of the text and try again, should do something...
mine gives scrambled letters which means the port is ok and my connection is ok, but my connection is still borked as of 1 hour ago.
unlike the rest of the ppl here i didnt have the problem last night but i sure as hell have it now.

Ok so I got a connect failed message and according to the GMs now I likely have a firewall causing the issues. However, the only firewall I am aware of is Windows Firewall that I have disabled.
How do I discover if there are other firewalls operating on my system?

If you tried the telnet thing and it worked then it isnt a firewall issue.
I eventually just uninstalled my game, removed the cache and downloaded the whole new client and now it works so mine was a corruption issue.
This might not be your case though so dont uninstall just because it worked for me.

I got a failed message so....Care to elaborate on what you mean by "You will need to fix that."? (Please do not say... Turn off firewalls) I can't seem to find any firewalls running on my system.

It could still be a firewall issue, even if you can use telnet.

Casqade my problem isn't as bad these fellas here anymore, however I get this problem for about 15 mins and then it fixes itself. It's more of an annoyance than anything, but I'm wondering what it is really -

Got the same problem. Telnet seems to connect (I get a some gibberish and LIVE@ccp at the end). Traceroute is ok. Antivirus and Windows Firewall are both disabled.
Interestingly, the issue developed gradually. First it were just frequent disconnects. Now - no connection at all. It all started on 21.02.
What else can I do?

The more I investigate it, the less it seems like a network problem. The trick I mentioned before works all the time: leave the client running, eventually (after a few tries) it will detect server status and let me connect. I stay connected now for more than 20 minutes. Previous try was more than an hour. Still, cannot connect on the first tries.
Second thing, I have run the Pingpointer suggested above. Very clean connection, 55 ms (just like the ISP told me), almost no packet loss (one packet in five minutes maybe), no abnormal latency fluctuations. Like I said before, telnet to TQ:26000 works like a charm.
As I write this, my session is dropped again. Pingpointer graph remains all pretty and green, no changes in connection whatsoever. This is obviously not a firewall issue, neither does it seem like a bad internet connection at all. Please venture at least a hypothesis, of what might be wrong on the non-client side.

Same here ... all details in different topic http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=584307&page=30
Also i've noticed very strange thing. I use flashget to download stuff from internet, and after fail attempt to connect to eve server flashget stops to download.. it looks like there is no internet connection. Websites and internet communicators are working, but flashget cant resume download. After a while is ok but for few minutes i cant dl anything.
And i don't think that CCP will solve this problem soon. After a mail i got from support stuff they don't know what is a reason for all of this.

I can only hope that this is some network fluctuation (weekend, attacks, whatever). Naturally, I will stop my subscription until this is fixed, cause the game is not playable now.

yeah it looks like it fluctuates based on the time of day. Right now sunday prime time, I am unable to log in, I logged in for 5 secs and disconnected. I have norton disabled, any kind of firewall turned off and I'm still unable to log in. I'm fairly certain this isn't a problem on my end -

Does it time out?
Can you let me know what OS you have?

If you guys past your tracert's then it might help.. Blocking INCOMING ports shouldnt stop eve from working.. Also, if you live in the UK and your a VM user then some of the ip's they have been handing out lately are BOGON filter'd....
Ping doesnt work on the same port as the game, so Pings can work and the game cant, or the Ping might not work and the game will..
Neither is a sign that the other will work, but a Sucessful ping should indicate that the Network itself is intact..
On a side note, I often have the server not telling me when it's up or down, but if you just type in your password and click connect it can go through.
