First off, this aint a whine thread and I won't be demanding anything. I definitely won't be having a cry and giving you my stuff if it doesn't happen.
I think it would be nice to hear more variation in sound effects, an enhancement/replacement of current sound effects, and to just plain add a lot in where there are none currently. Things such as, just for a few examples:
ò Constant ambient radio noise in high security space ò A rogue drone sending you a warning in an audible digital language ò A wide variety of weapon fire samples ò Concord informing you in a *****ly radio transmission that your ship will be destroyed ò The dull whir of an MWD overloading your engines ò The static ***** of shields failing ò A pirate transmission telling you to scamper ò The (incomprehensible) chatter of a news billboard ò An audio filter! etc. etc...
Aside from the ambient music from Mr. Hallur, I personally think EVE's sound is a bit lacking. You guys did a mad job on the graphics. If you ask me the picture won't be complete until the audio measures up. Are there any plans for an SFX enhancement?
So what's your opinion? Y/N? You just want to leave that 'Audio Enabled' box unticked?

The ambience is nice, but the only thing truly immersing is the launching and explosion of missiles at the moment. Additional samples to take advantage of would certainly liven up the game.

Eve has sound?
Well, that is something I hear a lot of. So many seem to think that voice and coms have to use the same output device. Me, I play with sound up and it is nice though it could use an improvement. There are several places that subtle sounds could be introduced to add to the overal effect of space travel. I do hope that CCP will have the time to work on this down the road.
I know less than you think I do. |

While I'm certain that CCP has a lot of things on their plate, I too think more and better sound will significantly enhance the game experience at a level disproportionate to the actual amount of effort put into it by the developers.

I wouldn't call it immersive, since sound can't travel through space...
Cool, though.

The thing that bothers me about the sound is that it only seems to work about half the time. You always hear something, but certain things, like gunfire or explosions just disappear. Even warping sometimes it just seems like all the sound just cuts out. Then the sound effects will just mysteriously kick back in.
I've played EVE on many different computers and it always behaves the same way, so I'm 99% sure its not the sound drivers.

Yup, I proudly play with sound. Also, having voice comms and game sounds on two different devices = ftw. I have a USB headset that acts like its own soundcard for all my voice comms and it works well.

You know the sounds you hear are synthesized by your pod, right?
That is actually a good excuse for them not sounding that great, but it would certainly be nice if the sounds were improved.

I might play with sound if they made the different sounds toggle-able, or volume adjustable on an individual level.
I find the stargate sound, and especially the horrible warp sound, to be harsh.
Actually, I'd use sound if they just removed the warp sound altogether. I ******* hate that noise. *signature removed - please email us to find out why (include a link) - Jacques([email protected]) |

Some general improvement to the sound engine is needed, as well. All of the current sounds are extremely long and drawn out. What seems like a 4-5 seconds of rumbling from a cruise missile explosion is actually a 16 second long audio file. There doesn't seem to be any priority over what sounds are played either so no matter how many are incoming, it will load them all. This means that sounds are very likely to stack on top of eachother in most combat situations, and fighting enemies that (for example) fire a lot of small missiles creates a rather overpowering noise accompanied by some pretty horrendous lockups.
Not being able to adjust sound volume on an individual level amplifies the problem. The whole camera zoom / sound volume relationship seriously needs to go. Way to make players choose between actually seeing the combat and being able to tolerate the sounds of it

Funny, every once in awhile when I'm near a bunch of Concord and/or Faction ships, I hear bizarre radio chatter. So there is a tiny bit of this already in game I suspect. I don't know if NPC's really scan your hold for illegal items, but maybe thats what they are doing when I hear the chatter. ___________________________________________

If CCP manage to do this in a way that takes the **** out of R2D2 it would be all the more awesome.

And while their at it they might as well change some of the combat sounds such as railguns firing etc, so that your ears don't get blown off like they do now.

For me it's usually like this... I login, everything is quite quiet ... Then I'm warping to a mission location and i hear the normal woooosh sound from warp... But when I fire away all those missiles its like BRAWWOOORORORMM BAAANNGGGGG GRAWURUURUWR .. And I become scared

I agree, this game needs a few more sounds. And more sound channels. The game frequently cuts of sound channels during combat, and you can't hear all of the guns firing, etc.
Please make sound more immersive, CCP.

The sound from firing missiles doesn't have to travel through space. The launchers are attached to your ship. There is no reason not to hear any piece of equipment attached to your ship. -- (Sarcastic mission running veteran)

seem to me ccp need to solve some more basic technical problem with audio. adjusting volume levels to certain effects in eve will be helpful. but im guessing ccp dosnt do much about it becoz they use a 3rd party audio liberary and nobody in their crew realy know how to use it properly. im guessing one dev manage somehow to make it work in a basic way and thats where he left it.
an example to this is eve music. you cant realy disable music in options audio tab, you can only lower volume to 0. on other applications and games doing so will usualy disable the music completly but in eve it dosnt.
to test this out just lower the volume all the way and then look at soundtrack window and see its still playing.
yes u could click stop on the soundtrack list and it seem to be stopping. but the game will start another soundtrack automaticly triggered by event. so u could never realy disable the music and save on resources. quile lame.
another example to how things arnt working properly at their base is disabling station enviroment. the sound of the enviroment will seem to stop, but once in awhile u could hear for a split second, almost as if escaping some 2nd layer "shut the audio up" WHILE its still playing.
again... ccp ur use of audio liberaries r quite lame, i wish u would sort this out like proper programmers do.

It would be nice to have better surround effects, esp. when you're fighting, and some 'in ship' sounds representing the status of your mods.

This. All of this. And the ability to alter the sound levels of each of these sources. And a rebalance of the current sound levels (not being able to turn down game sound effects (e.g. missiles, warp) without turning everything else down with it is just bad),
