At least once every tournament a thread like this goes up.
Watching every tournament, the quality goes up a few notches every time without fail. I can't believe that I'm actually able to watch all of this live with no disconnects, no lag or timeouts... whatever you want to call it technically, the stream has been unbroken and high quality throughout.
Personally, I love the commentary. I don't honestly care if it's spot on all the time, or if they are missing things (yes, they miss things fairly often). On the whole, they do a damn good job; they aren't media professionals, but they do entertain. Btw, ****ing you off and getting you up in arms is most definately considered entertainment by me. I seriously hope they have a blast being there, I can't imagine anyone going to Iceland and getting to be a part of EveTV not.
Excellent work EveTV, keep it up!

So let me get this straight.
Nobody organizing the tournament is being paid.
The players don't pay for subscriptions.
CCP put MSN and other ads on EVEtv at no charge.
It's alllllllll free then. That's what you're saying, right?
If so I will delete my OP and apologize to the community.
If this was a volunteer service done by the players for the EVE community, and even sponsered by EVE gratis, then any critisism of it would in fact be way out of line. I was under the impression that the tournamet organizers and some of the commentators were being paid as CCP employees to do a job of putting on a tournament for EVE customers.

Uncle Mo,
I think after 5 Alliance Tournaments CCP & Eve Tv don't need you to tell them how to run one properly. If all you have to say is negative, if thats all you have to contribute why put yourself through the trouble of watching something that you clearly dislike. They must be doing something right, Judging by the number of good replies to this thread. I for one think its a great achievement, something that no other mmo has done before, they are the pioneers and the risk takers, they should be praised for what they have accomplished but If you think you can do a better job then stand up and let yourself be known (instead of sitting behind an alt) Constructive criticism is one thing but you've over-stepped the mark with your comments, keep them to yourself next time.
You knew your thread was going to provoke a this reaction, 'Flame away.' you said. Heres some life advice... get one.
----
I find Eve-tv and the coverage of the alliance tournament highly enjoyable and informative, like many other fellow eve online players I will continue to watch and support this fantastic & unique addition to the mmo community. I'm happy with the experts especially - Stavros, Verone, Mr. Calmdown and KIAeddz they are well known and respected members of the community, they know what they are talking about and the terminology used is one which is up to date and understandable. The hosts again are great, Sprial and Stevie make an awesome team and offer a lighter, sometimes comedic view on a tournament which would otherwise verge on being to serious (it is a game after all!) They are both easy to listen and relate to. The team behind the tournament, ccp and the faces we don't see too often, I applaud you for bringing this show to life and I apologize that people like Uncle Mo take it on themselves to troll in such a way as you in no way deserve that kind of abuse.
Thankyou all for making such a great show.
Tony

Yes, I assume the commentators and crew etc are payed a small amount of monies to put on this show, but for the production level that is realistically possible for an internet spaceships tournament show, I deem the quality very good indeed. The commentators don't/can't sit at home practising in every fleet fight they encounter, and there's no commentary all year round, so there. It's EXTREMELY hard to comment on a match for 15 minutes whilst keeping your head straight AND keeping it fresh, and I feel they do a pretty damned good job of it.
And last time I remember, the weekly eve-tv show ran at a loss/very small profit to ccp itself, so I don't see this will make billions of dollah (or real-isks) for ccp.

Originally by: Uncle Mo The commentary has been awful so far. Also there's constant technical problems. This is your fifth tourny right?
Whose the slob with the dirty teeshirt and curly hair in the 'studio' running the end commentary? You are on TV for crips sake. Comb your hair, shave and put on some slacks and a polo at least! It's bad enough we have to listen to your drivel. Also would it be too much to ask for you to back up your opinions with some sort of game knowlege other than "These guys are n00bs!"? Sit up stright, speak clearly and in complete sentences and at least sound like you know what you're talking about. Consider ditching the blonde sidline commentator who has no clue what's going on.
CCP, hire a professional production crew for God's sake (Get some free interns from the local university)! These guys are representing your company and once again it seems as if everything was simply thrown together in someone's basement.
Flame away.
These are all players of the game, for the love of good no professionals! I'd hate to see some artsy fartsy shaite from some utterly clueless boob with said polo and correct pronounciations.
What you call a dirty t-shirt I call a caldari t-shirt.
That being said I hope they do have some form of evaluation meets on how to improve and who to vote off the island next, last episode I hear it was Trev, who couldn't stop commenting without pants, that got sent home. But in all seriousness, I hope there are some level of professionalism even among amateurs.
I'd like to see some correspondance with the team captains during the tournament, not just the clique on IRC but all in all I'd rather have enthusiastic amateurs any day over some glaced over polished up metrosexual pro.

im enjoying the coverage and all that, but i DO have to agree at times the commentators seem to not be paying attention and miss things like a teams guardian exploding for 30 seconds.
they have called off the ship types for each side wrong many times. and as for the cameras it seems like theyre having some technical issues like camera losing a lock on ships and things like that. there needs to be a bit of communication between the guy doing the camera and the announcers.
also i have to gripe about the sound level of the actual show itself versus the commercials sucks. the show is very quiet. i have to have my sound turned up 3/4 of the way to hear clearly, yet the commercials are fine with about 5% volume. not to mention the commercials are much higher video quality too.
i cant complain because it is a free service theyre doing for us, i just think there are a few things that could easily be fixed with a little attentiveness and effort on the announcers part.
perhaps we could also get a high(er) resolution download of matches after they are done for the day? i would certainly enjoy being able to read ship types and names.

Boy would it ever. What would be even MORE halarious is if they made a thousand references to Benny Hill. That would be stunning ya?! Imagin it. Referring to Benny Hill over and over and over. Smashing! And if they REALLY wanted to go over the top, they could pretend to fall asleep during a match they didn't like. Get it? They're not actually sleeping, just pretending to sleep. TBH I don't know if they could pull that off. It would take a TON of coordination, but it would be halarious. Wouldn't it?

They weren't intentionally downplayed. Personally I was impressed. THey were just solid wins, and very well executed, though without much in the way of opposition.
Winning doesn't always make a fun fight, and losing sometimes makes for more spectacular TV. Unfortunately, we're not robots, we're humans and are more likely to commentate on what entertains or interests us in the short time we have on TV. It'd be great if we had hours to talk over the details of every match, but we dont :/

Hats off to everyone involved in the tourney.
Just ask yourself how many other games would have free streams of an in game tournament with commentators no less. I think the commentary team is a nice mix of veterans of the game and even some Devs. I personally love to see guys like Eddz cheering on his team.
This is what Eve is all about. Killing people, talking trash (in a good natured way) , and generally having a great time.

I agree the commentators are very ordinary as are the post tourney commentary team... I am not tuning in to hear these idiots whine about why every setup sux ass and how bored they are and generally flavour the matches with scorn. Lets get some new hosts these ones are at there expiry date and are obviously on the verge of curdling. I cant imagine how ccp selected these guys given the negativity they are generating around the overall tourney.. is this the brand impact you are seeking?? lolsa.. for me i have turned down the sound now..

The BBC would die for these kind of ratings, let alone Fox and all those supposed pro's

The Eve TV crew are wonderful. Sure spiral needs a haircut but I challenge you to actually get into a verbal sparring match with that guy. He's anything but lacking in wit. Unclue Mo whining about how he's wearing ripped jeans sounds like the kind of guy who wants to see some plastic mannequin looking news anchorman hosting the show. Well, I ******* hate those idiotic overly made up anchormen and much prefer to see someone who realizes it doesn't matter how expensive your clothes are.
Only someone who's never watched much of Eve TV would accuse Stevie of being nothing but a T&A addition. She's a T&A addition... And so much more.
The live match commentary could definitely use some improvement though. I'm not sure what obstacles are stopping the commentators from seeing exactly what's going on, but they definitely missing things. Not saying I could do better, just saying.

the commentry is better than it has ever been and the experts are better than they have been in the past. having 4 people on that play the game are not going to know everything. i have played for over 4 years and have specialized in caldari/amarr. If i was on the show yes i could tell you alot about the workings of amarr/caldari ships and quite a bit about gall ships but mimnitar ships weapons and tactics i would not be the best as i have not flown them for the length of time that i have flown other races. This can be said about all the experts do they know everything? NO could you do better? NO do you pay for eve-tv? NO do you have to watch? NO
Yes there have been some errors but the comentaters are watching from the outside they do not know how close a fight actually is in terms of cap/jamming/dampening. They could have been fighting 10 mins the guardian could be on his last 800 charge and the oposing logistic ship could have just been jammed.
yes spiral could have a haircut. he should auction it off and just have a number 1 all over live on the final day

Some of you people need some perspective.
This isn't the BBC or ESPN, this isn't the super bowl. This is the broadcasting of matches of 1's and 0's shooting each other in an internet spaceship game. Made for a relative handful of people.
There is nothing wrong with what Spiral is wearing or how he presents, he's the host of this and what he wears is the same as the core membership of Eve. It's also the internet, on the internet we smack talk each other.
Teams get slated? Who cares? Teams in the real world get slated too. They get slated for their setup, their tactics, their past performances, anything that happened on or off the field. Eddz doesn't see Tri winning and he was very vocal about it, you don't see us crying about it. We sent a jokey wardec and a :p his way and thats it.
As for cheering his team? It's funny. It was funny last year too. If you watched the BBC coverage of the last World Cup, they showed Ian Wright and company go mental when England scored in some match, nobody ****ed and moaned about that.
Stamping your feet and crying because you don't get your Sky Sports level of production from an internet broadcast of a spaceship game? Babies the lot of you.
