More specifically, is the absolution better then the nighthawk in pvp, on average? No other help involved.

Sniping and fleet engagements, missiles take some time to hit their targets. That and capital ships, the rev is a really solid dreadnought.

Caldari = Bubble and hearth, stay in station until hostiles go away. Amarr = Heal, rejuvenate, shift shapes, do some damage, repeat.

Edited by: Lithalnas on 06/03/2008 05:24:00 An abaddon makes most raven and rohk pilots rethink their tanking abilities. And an abaddon gets a lock on an ecm ships, carcals and the like, well there is not much left onces a volley or two goes out.
Crusader with an anti intie setup just chews through crows.
absolutions have a great tank, and at the same time can fit a great gank. A nighhawk has a great tank as well, no so much gank.
however pve ravens and drakes cant be beat. -------------

What a dumb argument. You could perhaps, compare two ships that fill exactly the same role, and determine which is more effective. Comparing two races and trying to say which is 'better' is stupid.
Let me guess, your corp is not a PvP corp, and the majority of pilots in it fly ravens in lvl 4s.

1. Caldari 2. Solo 3. PvP
Choose only two of them.

Can I pick PvP twice?
Back on topic, if you are even having that discussion, you are in a corp of 100% PvE pilots. Because in PvE you think oh my raven can tank 10 BS, I am awesome, but in actual PvP...AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

In a direct comparison Amarr win by a large margin. Lots of EM damage on 0% resistance shields equals Caldari wreck.

PvP - Amarr PvE - Caldari
Of course there are variances but this is in general. I fly both caldari and amarr up through BS and I can say that the Amarr BS's are better at solo PvP, and caldari BS's are excellent in gang work. (Hello 1000dps torp raven with 6 Multispecs and plates) ________

It really depends what you're doing.
Curse = ultimate solo pvp recon. Less useful in gangs, though Revelation > Phoenix, but not mby much Archon == Chimera. They're pretty much equal.
BS line is basically incomparable. All amarr ones have potential for either huge tank or huge damage and do great for a sniper. All Caldari ones have different roles. Cant say i know much about their frigs or cruisers.

I've seen the power of a specialized abbadon pilot.
needless is to say that I am very, very, VERY happy to have that guy in the corp, because if I was to find him in the opposite sides, I would be scared.

he's been mostly with abbadons since he joined TNT.
gotta love the day when he practically melted a BS in front of our eyes like it was a frigate. Most people that were in BS'es in the gang made some 2k, 3k damage tops.
in the same period of time (or even less, he was one of the last to warp in) he did some 12k raw damage.
he scares me, honestly ---

There are quite a lot of things Amarr do better then Caldari to be honest. They have massive dps at very good ranges, they have very solid ships that really pay off with specilization, they will have the best fleet battleship in a week, they have a very useful EW racial and they excell at gang work as dps.
Caldari are good at extreme longrange combat (rare), missles and Jamming. Personally, I love the jamming bit a lot and the eagle is a fun ship if you can get her set up right, but the missles thing is just blah. Especially since Amarr get the Sac, which is like a really nice Cerb that is well adapted to todays small gang combat.
So is there a situation where Amarr are better in PvP? Ya, actually there are lots of situations where Amarr are best at PvP. . .a day will come when you are facing a golden beam and wonder what the hell hit you. ----

solo pvp ammar win over caldari any day - and as the comment as ammar are better at sniping, i think there the same, but stop using ravens 2 snipe adn use a rokh --> i got a setup with 253km optimul range and 249km locking....

ummmi just wanted to point out quickly that the caracal is NOT an ecm ship....
to stay on topic, alot of people find it a pain in the ass to tackle with caldari due to shield tanking, but then there is the one midslot retri =) but i'd say that in almost any situation i'd rather have an amarr ship because it's hard to out run lasers, where as missiles slug their way along. if you come across a nano pilot your chance of success has effectively gone to 0 (unless of course the nano pilot is an idiot, and we all know atleast one) but say you are in a zealot, you can fry just about any nano out there. just my opinion through experience, but of course each race fill a niche, people have said it, caldari don't do the solo thing.

I'm definitely 100% pve, and I agree its a stupid argument. My friend, with approx 2.5x the SP that I have, is always telling me to go caldari, to make missions easier. Yes, hes a big cnr fan. Last night, he tried again, and said "name a single situation where amarr is better than caldari," to which I responded "hac vs hac with tackler in gang" and "command ship vs command ship solo." I was mostly talking out of my arse. Thanks for the response - atleast I can redirect him, and the other guy, a well versed pvp type, to this thread.

Amarr >> Caldari between 25-30 and around 120-150 km engagement range or so. Below 30km, Ravens rule. Above 120km, Rokhs get the upper hand. Between 30 and 60, you have MFII/Scorch, between 100 and 130 you have Tachs/Aurora. Of course, the most impressive advantage is somewere between 40 and 50 km, where almost no other ship can compete damage-wise, and if your gang has either a couple of minnie/gallente recons/EAS or dedicated tacklers, a fleet of amarr ships parked at around 45km from the gate (30-60 range to any materializing target) can make mincemeat out of them all quite fast.

So would I. Mostly a matter of taste. And the range. And the damage types. And the immunity to TD. And the possibility to counter ECM and dampers to some degree. And not having to fear being shut down by a single neut.
The Absolution is still a nice ship though.
