Verone actually makes the effort to act / talk / rp like a pirate and actually bothers with things like ransoms and whatnot. He puts a little style into it. The limit of piracy for most corps is: "Camp gate, lock target, f1-f8" ...

Is that really a topic, followed by two bitter posts by the same person's alts? Is there some kind of name for that forum kung-fu?
On to the question, its because Verone:
1)Has managed to put together an effective and long lasting pirate corp 2)Pirates with some style, which is sadly lacking these days 3)Is a pretty nice guy tbh --------------

Edited by: Meiyang Lee on 24/03/2008 08:44:55 Verone and VETO with him atleast have some honour as pirates go. If they ransom you and you pay up you don't get podded as a thank you like most other pirates seem to prefer. They usually operate in smaller gangs, not huge blobs meaning that any fights you get into with them are more fun. They're also very co÷rdinated and extremely good at what they do, meaning that they can be quite a challenge to evade. Our alliance uses a low-sec system a handful of jumps from VETO's home, so we run into them quite often.

I've had a brilliant idea.
I'm going to make an alt-post postulating as to why my main is so superior to everyone else in an attempt to further my attempts at getting a free holiday to Iceland as a member the Council of Forum Wh*res.
Only there's one problem. Since I'm already an alt, does this mean I'd have to make an alt of an alt to pretend that I'm not really my alt and then start a thread about how great my alt is and why it is so?
Please, discuss.

From what I've read, he's one of the few pirates who's honorable and will keep his word on ransoms etc.
And for that, I take my hat off to him, as it lofts him about 90% of the pirates in this game who are just griefers with 1 inch wangs.
Also, is it just me or does anyone else get Verone and Avon mixed up?

Edited by: idrop on 24/03/2008 12:42:59 Many scientists have sought to probe the essence that is referred to by we mortals as "Verone," and have learned two interesting facts:
1. His accent, while on the surface seemingly natural and charming, was actually learned while he was 14 at a top-secret government-run assassination school. 2. Each of his many, many hats contains a dizzying array of spy gadgetry and hardware, including but not limited to microphones, video cameras, broadcasting equipment, etc. We would have learned more but our operative who stole the hat was killed by the hat's self-destruct sequence, which was activated when the hat's built-in DNA checker realized it was sitting on a head that was not Verone's.
In the end, we had to suspend our investigation because our team members kept dying. One was killed (along with a 3-block radius of Edinburgh - we covered that one up!) by the exploding hat. One was performing an investigation online in the video game where Verone is famous; we found him dead the next morning with strangle marks on his throat - we suspect Verone's hand literally came out of the monitor and choked the poor man to death. A third was murdered when he happened across Verone in the street in an undisclosed location in northern England, he disappeared and was found 10 days later floating in the Atlantic.

I apologize for the sarcastic tone of this letter, but I have found it is the only way to vent the ineffable anger that possessed me when I heard Mr. Ethan Verone say that an open party with unlimited access to alcohol can't possibly outgrow the host's ability to manage the crowd. It is worth noting at the outset that his subliminal psywar campaigns have caused widespread social alienation and from this alienation a thousand social pathologies have sprung. Whenever he tries to fortify our feeble spirits with a few rehearsed words of bravado, I can't help but think that my position is that he displays the paranoid malice that is the hallmark of true defeatism. Mr. Verone, in contrast, argues that he understands the difference between civilization and savagery. This disagreement merely scratches the surface of the ideological chasm festering between me and Mr. Verone. The only rational way to bridge this chasm is for him to admit that the gloss that his acolytes put on his hatchet jobs unfortunately does little to feed the starving, house the homeless, cure the sick, and still find wonder and awe in the sunrise and the moonlight. While we do nothing, those who marginalize and eventually even outlaw responsible critics of sententious, Fabianism-oriented ruffians are gloating and smirking. And they will keep on gloating and smirking until we make efforts directed towards broad, long-term social change.
As a consistently mortified observer of Mr. Verone's slurs, I myself can't help but want to stop Mr. Verone's encroachments on our heritage. Mr. Verone's morals are clear testimony to the fact that Mr. Verone's ravings are merely a sideshow exhibit in the circus of teetotalism. That is to say, much of Mr. Verone's success is due to the rest of us bending over backwards to assist him and to overlook his failings. That's clear. But I sometimes ask myself whether the struggle to express my views is worth all of the potential consequences. And I consistently answer by saying that we must understand that Mr. Verone is so harebrained that he transcends the normal definition of that word into a whole new meaning that also encompasses "dirty" and "silly". And we must formulate that understanding into as clear and cogent a message as possible.
It is easier for me to imagine a million-dimensional vector space than the number of inconsistencies in Mr. Verone's animadversions. The reason is clear. Mr. Verone's goons, who are legion, all look like Mr. Verone, think like Mr. Verone, act like Mr. Verone, and force his moral code on the rest of us, just like Mr. Verone does. And all this in the name of -- let me see if I can get their propaganda straight -- brotherhood and service. Ha! You've heard me say that his fans are all flighty dummkopfs. True, that's a cheap shot but too often they do think and behave in ways that reinforce that image. The take-away message of this letter is that history has proven beyond any doubt that Mr. Ethan Verone is a big fan of vigilante justice. Think about it. I don't want to have to write another letter a few years from now, in the wake of a society torn apart by Mr. Verone's contentious canards, reminding you that you were warned.

Besides being a master of communication, he also has great sigs. I yearn for the day before he got rid of the one with the pimpin purple hat with zebra stripes...
He's also one of the very, very few people who will actually ransom you and not be a jack-a-s-s about it.
Now, in true EVE fashion, having said that: He was also a massive gate-sniping stab monkey back in the day, and an old-school LowSec prat. Still, old school owns the new dumb-a-s-s kiddies running around today.

You obviously don't know what I've been doing for the last four years then.
I've never fitted a stab to a ship in my life, something I'm proud of in fact. If I'm stupid enough to get cought, then I'm adult enough to pay the price.
Also... I've never sniped off a gate. If I've ever camped it's been in Aunenen or Amamake, sentry tanking with SNIGG. Basically due to the fact that I don't like long range combat.
I don't think I've actively gatecamped since I formed Veto Corp... which was two years and 4 months ago.
I love alts who have no idea what they're talking about.

Ginger Magician was a failure in every way one can be. He deserved that ban, and EVE is a better place for it.
I dont understand why everybody hates ginger so much, for someone who is supposedly a total failure he did a good job making so many ppl bitter

People hated Ginger, it's true. Not just the bears but a SLEW of other piratical types. Probably because of the Carrier? or MOM? he ran around in before most anyone else, not to mention the incessant self-congratulatory tone in all his posts: "EVE'S BEST, MOST FEARED PIRATE BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH", etc.

What makes anyone "the coolest dude around?" Given Eve is its own social microcosm, a community, there will be personalities that step forward to be revered, as in any community or peer group.
As for specifics; they've been covered. Piracy with style, with skill, and with fairly rich roleplay context...which is particularly rare in the pirate world. The longevity and consistency of Veto is doubtless a factor.
I have my own Eve "coolest guys," and Verone's not one of 'em (I don't think he'll be offended by me saying so,) but I definitely think he's a "cool guy." I'm pretty sure he's cool enough to speak his mind or rant without resorting to an alt at the very least

1. He has an over inflated sense of his own worth as a human being, as a player of eve-online, and as an eve-online pirate.
2. He transmits this ego-centric world view to the rest of veto.
3. Veto, as a corp, forum *****s (nothing wrong with this). This leads to a general "isn't Verone so cool" attitude on the forums.
4. Veto is a pirate corp that makes videos. When you make videos you are more well known, simply because you are making videos of yourself and putting them on the interweb. Most pirate corps don't need or seek this type of attention.
5. Verone is friendly with CCP employees and the company generally. Thus, you will probably see this post removed in an hour or two when Verone sees it, and MSNs one of his buddies.

So much bitterness.
I'd shoot Verone any day of the week for what he is, that's just how it is but he has never come across as an ass from what I've read, which can't be said for much of the rest of the supposed pirate population.

In all those instances I have heard nothing but good stuff about them. Such a reputation is hard to earn and very easy to lose so it speaks volumes about Verone and his corp.

1. This must be your first time using the EVE Online forums. Welcome!
2. He's the first to ever do that to a corp. Really.
3. Since you have no problems with the cause, it only stands to reason you're equally apathetic towards the effect.
4. Some people create things for the sake of creating something.
5. If it DID get removed it'd be because it's basically singling out a single person and attempting to flame them. There's probably a rule somewhere about that. Anyway, it's not worth mentioning since it wouldn't change your opinion if it did happen.
Personally, I've never seen/known Verone to be over-inflated in any definable way. He's usually pretty sensible overall, doesn't succumb to trolling or flaming on the forums, etc. Maybe that's why he's so well known? He stands out in a crowd of trolls and flamers because he's NOT doing that?
Just a thought, based on my own observations/experiences.

If those folks want credit for their awesomeness, they should step up and claim it. Verone talks about Veto, Veto's members talk about Veto...and Veto's victims talk about Veto - most notably that Veto honors their ransoms (one of the first pirate organizations to fire up a campaign very specifically about that aspect of piracy.)
I guess Verone's "crime" here is to fully enjoy all aspects of Eve (public relations, building an organization of reputation, etc) rather than focusing on "push buttan(s), laugh at n00b." If other pirate organizations wish to become infamous, let 'em step up their own public relations.

Verone,
I would like to thank you for projecting your ego to the whole of Veto corp. I can only wish that I was intelligent enough to discover that all you do is force yourself upon me, and others like me, none of which is capable of analytical thought to discover your evil machinations. A fine herd of obedient forum-lemmings you have here sir, and I, being incapable of rational thought, am proud to be one!
I greatly enjoy our mandatory corp forum ops. I look forward to next Tuesday's, which according to our forums is entitled "CCP REMOVE SUICIDE GANKING!!11oneeleven." The buttons on my keyboard are cleaned and shiny and ready to type in what will surely become a Veto threadnought.
Finally I'd like to congratulate you on your many kills on the Veto killboard, all of which were surely attained as you spun ships in station and thought up new and creative ways of advertising your awesomeness on the forums.
I look forward to all the threads we surely shall share in the months to come. Gentlemen, TO THE FORUMS!

To say that he flys with honour is bull. There are plenty of pirates out there who honour ransoms and let people go, fight fairly and are all around good sports when it comes to this game. I play this game and enjoy doing so. when pirating if someone pays the ransom i let them go and don't bother them again. If you do something stupid and get yourself killed well there isn't anything I can do about that.
It seems like a lot of you people are just going on the assumptions that Verone is a god among men and just ****s amazing where ever he goes. i bet half of you have never even seen or come across him in game and are just saying what everyone else is say to fit in.
I am not bashing the fact that he isn't honorable but he's not the only one. plenty of corps and pirates through out eve will honour ransoms and payments and such. its the only way to really make money as pirate.

As others have said, he's honorable.
But what I find far more compelling is that he actually cares about all of Eve, not just pirating. When something new is introduced, or a change is made, he doesn't just say, "How will this benefit me?" or "How can exploit this (not in the illegal sense) to my greatest benefit?"
Instead he says, "How will this affect the whole game? Will it unbalance things for one side? What will be the repercussions of introducing this?"
I've seen him here arguing for both parties, PvPers AND Carebears, because he truly wants everyone to enjoy Eve. If something is broken he'll point it out to CCP and the players, even if fixing it will make things more difficult for pirates.

To someone above, Ginger was despised long before cap ships came out. He made his "name" for himself by sniping noob ships and indies outside of sentry range with stabs fitted. Not that that's evil, per se, but he actually BRAGGED about it here, stating how good of a PvPer he was. Sure, it got him a lot of ship kills, but didn't demonstrate much skill. This was proven multiple times when single people in smaller, weaker ships destroyed his.
So carebears hated him for killing them without any chance of fighting back - he'd just warp off if there was any semblance of a threat. And PvPers hated him for making the rest of them look bad and causing people to associate his behavior with all PvPers.

Majority of this is true, except for that this will be removed in a hour or two as verones alt obviously created this thread as usual to get more attention.
1.Snig= a fair amount of bob pirate alts (snig broke off into veto)(bringing extra players see #2)
2.Bob pirate alts= couple devs and gms here and there
3.creators of a game want there corp to be famous= AK (GM's-Dev's)
4.some people gain fame by there ingame actions.
5.Others like Veto advertise (forum war) for it. Reading it over and over on the forums surly makes it true?
6.Eventually actual good players want to join a (Corp known for being awsome)
7.Slowly making the forum wared reputation true.
8.In addition with contacts from ccp who moved to veto from snig able to do things such as (pirates walk through) in EVE magazine.
Combined together the PR from veto alts posting (why is veto so awsome threads). And connections with CCP. And being in eve magazine you gain rep by claiming to be rather then actually being. However the rep from the pr makes real good players want to join for fame and slowly making it true.

Hero worship is the bane of human existance. There's the haves, and the have nots. The have nots suck up to the haves in the hopes that one day, they too will become haves. And by sucking up to the haves, the have nots only further cement the haves superior position in the food chain. It's a vicious cycle.

Anyone who's actually fought Verone knows he's worthy of respect.
A long, long time ago when he was in Snigg, I engaged him and another guy with a Crow. They were both in Blackbirds. Killed his wingman and then suffered a CTD. Logged back in to find myself alone in the belt. Chased after Verone but was silly enough to engage at a gate.
Bye bye Crow (this was when aggression was all different and messy).
He was nice enough not to completely bully me for my stupidity and we had a few nice weeks chasing each other around safespots in lowsec, making idle banter. I would still have loved to see how I'd have fared against the Scorpion he was hunting us in!

Interestingly enough, most of the individuals crying loudest about Verone and about the concept of e-fame in general could probably generate some of their own if they'd play the game and post in the forums with the same character...
Say what you will about Sex Panthers or the much maligned (and rightfully so) Ginger Magician or any number of others who regularly make it a point to give folks a reason to dislike them...at least they are who they are and garner a reputation accordingly.
Verone has a reputation he desires and works toward. If other folks don't like it because they think having e-fame is not worth comment...then why comment? If other folks don't like it because they wish they had the e-fame instead, then why not take appropriate steps?
If disagreeing with alt trolls, calling 'em out for lack of maturity or for hypocrisy, and saying "well hey, yeah, Verone seems like a good fella" is circlejerking, then I guess my hands are well sticky.

I think Verone is the coolest dude around because of his sig. It's awesome. As soon as he attached that image to his sig here on the forums, he won EVE, it was game over. We all just play now to pass the time.

I don't want to derail the thread, but it was after the HP buff, I think, the first one. GM was crying in C&P how he couldn't SB a pod anymore because of its new uber HPs. Basically everyone said, "I have no problem doing it." I'm sure you know how GM reacted.

The dude could be the pope for all I care. My issue isn't with peoples ePeen size. It's with CCP's Council of Forum Wh*res and how they're going about 'democratically' electing the members, when we all know that the intellectual powers that are the average Eve player base wouldn't know a decent candidate if it kicked them in the balls. They're all going to vote for the names they're familiar with, regardless of actual credibility or ability.
What it boils down to is that a bunch of popularity contest winners (the Arnold Schwarzenegger's of the Eve world) are going to score a holiday to Iceland rather than anyone that might actually deserve it (and no, I certainly don't deserve it).

Verone is famous within EVE for obvious reasons, but outside of EVE, not so much. Outside EVE, he would easily blend in with the faceless crowds of the underpaid working class on wellfare checks who hasn't bothered to educate themselves further because they are happy with their lot in life. Which isn't much.
Fact is, if Verone's english was any less legible, I'd call him a chav! So I think it is only justified to call him the E-famous E-chav of EVE.
PS. If he offers to polish your shoes at fanfest, please accept it and tip the man, he needs every coin he can get.

I'm missing the part where democratically needs to be in quotation marks. This seems like a perfect description of how the process works IRL. Why would the CSM be any different?

In regards to Karlemagne, it has been my experience that trying to talk to him is worse than arguing with a brick wall. At least with the wall it doesnt say anything and looks defeated. Karl on the other hand will argue with you despite having 105% of the people on the forums trying to talk sense into him. Its like a poodle running around in circles yapping at you to give it attention until either you do, or you kick it (I am by no means advacating dog abuse)
In any case verone is one of the few eve celebs I have not had the chance to talk to, but judging from his forum posts he seems to be one of the more sensible people on the forums, and when you POST alot of sensible things people tend to notice you. (tarminac would be a good example of this)

I first heard of Verone and Veto while in my first pirate corp. Veto was blue to us, and would occasionally help us out if we ran into a special opportunity we couldn't handle. I knew nothing about Verone, but did note the kind of hush and reverence with which his (at the time I thought he was a she, based on the name) name was mentioned. Still have no idea why he is so famous-in-a-good-way, being a relative noob myself, other than what's been said in this thread.
Been allied with Veto, and popped by Veto. They were professional either way. Never did get the opportunity to pay a ransom, though.
But I will say Verone seems pretty cool to me. I once ran across an abandoned capital ship sitting at a gate. I mentioned this in alliance Vent, and some guy who could fly capital ships started asking me questions about what I was seeing, as he headed my direction. We soon figured out I was seeing a "ghost" (the guy had me try to target it), and we both went on to other things--but not before I checked to see who I was talking to...Verone. Based on how he'd been talked about, I was expecting more echo and reverb when he spoke on Vent, and maybe some theme music in the background. Instead, he just acted like your run-of-the-mill nice guy who can fly a capital ship and is nice to the noob who thinks one is abandoned at a gate.
