as any citizens of *mah Hemisphere* are likely to know, clocks went forwards by 1 hour this morning @ 4am, it is now 12:45, whereas in eve, it says 11:45,
is this just "how it is" and will be corrected when we go back an hour, or will eve time be put forward soon?
Only reason i noticed, is that igoogle gadget told me i had 3 mins left on a skill.. but buh, its an hour and 3 mins
Not important, not a particularly necessary thread, just something i've not previously noticed.
im also now very confused as to when our wardec goes live O.o, so actually, maybe it would be pretty cool to get some sort of answer, y'know if you have the time

GMT is GMT and always will be and that's the time that EVE uses.
European Summer Time has started and we are now 1 Hr ahead of EVE time until our clocks go back again in Autumn.
Caught me out beautifully this morning also. As to the wardec that will start 1hr later on your clock than it says in the mail.

I'm guessing it's either changing at downtime, as in now, or not changing at all...
OR, maybe eve doesen't use DST (daylight saving time) at all, and that is the reason for no change.
Or it has smth. to do with all the things that depend on RL time... like skills, manufacturing etc. and if they changed the time we'd gain an hour now and lose one in autumn...
Dunno, we'll see. I eat pie, then you die. |

Yup, GMT has no summer/wintertime changes, it stays what it is. It's your timezone that screwed you over. Your timezones' time changes relative to GMT, not the other way around. There's little a sledgehammer can't fix. If you can't fix it, you need a bigger sledgehammer. If it's unfixable, blame CCP. :p

This happens EVERY year by at least one person, usually ignorant British people who think they know right. (Yes im British)
Britain is not on GMT for the next few months. Its on BST (GMT +1).

The in-game clock still shows the correct GMT, because like all time zones, GMT doesn't change with daylight savings.
Instead, countries change their time zones to reflect the change to summer: Brits, for instance, now sit in the BST timezone (which is GMT+1).

That'd be CET, Central european Time=GMT+1. As said before, a time with a shift to summer/wintertime is not a timezone. Timezones do not change. There's little a sledgehammer can't fix. If you can't fix it, you need a bigger sledgehammer. If it's unfixable, blame CCP. :p

This happens every single year. I've yet to see a "OH NOES EVE CLOCK IS WRONG" thread regarding summer time, by a non-British person.

...which, as it happens is the same as BST. And BST most certainly is a time zone - it just so happens that no country is in it except in the summer half of the year.
Time zones do not shift, but countries do shift time zones.

That's probably just a coincedence. Every modern computer runs on UTC (which is the same as GMT). This is true regardless of where you live. The conversion to local time is performed only at the last minute for the convenience of us humans.
If you look at the time on a known file you will find that it has changed by one hour if you're in Europe. IOW a file that you know you edited at 6pm yesterday will now be showing as last changed at 7pm.
Basically - timezones are a human concept that causes computers confusion if they attempt to deal with it. The simplest solution was always to have every computer in the world operating in the same timezone and only calculate the local time when some dum human asks for it. -- (Sarcastic mission running veteran)

CET is GMT +2 now. I live in CET time and there is a 2 hour difference between GMT and CET now, due to summertime.

No, CET is still GMT+1 - but those who lived in CET yesterday now live in CEST

No, no and no! CET NEVER changes, CET will always be GMT+1. It's the nationalities that change their time due to summer/wintertime. a TIMEZONE never changes. Your time is now CET+summertime=CET+1+1. CET never changes from GMT+1.

As several people gave already said, Iceland has no summer daylight savings clock shift. As a result, EVE stays on GMT, since that provides a consistent time for us to access and maintain the server all year round.

Would this be because Iceland has no summer! :)
