Just idly wondering. Whilst attempting to tame the unholy vortex of mayhem that is my assets list, i came across a lil' lonely Vigil named OSF Flypaper and realized, holy crap, that was my first ingame non-rookie ship from Oracle. If i ever get a say in what POSes can have once we "get inside" stations, i'll vote for a museum to stick it in.
What have you got lying around from who-knows-when? What's the oldest ship you still have in one piece? What's the oldest ship you still fly?

It's really not to interesting how old a ship is since anyone can shove a ship in a hangar and leave it there for a year. I'd rather be interested how many fleet engagements and kills a ship has survived.
I want little notches on the side of my*****pit for kills.

Edited by: Dirk Magnum on 26/04/2008 00:35:52 I don't think any of my ships are more than 10 months old. The oldest one is either the Scorpionfly or the Crimson Narwal, a Claw and Enyo respectively.
In light of Frug's post I had a Stiletto that survived two Empire wars and then got taken into Delve to fly with BoB. It survived multiple ops in that regard and was then given to Tamia Clant when I returned to Empire in January. That thing was bulletproof. |

my flag ship the NBS Gustavus Adolphus was one of the first rokhs in game, fitted with 425s from back when they cost 20mill each, fighting under ka-tets flag in ym- (or y-m i can't remember) with numerous fleet fights, surviving a titan bomb that i wasn't even expecting, fought along side IAC against FIX, as well as refitted for guerilla ops against FIX spending a few weeks living in their space. It's last battle was against Coven with lots of cap ships involved, it's now sitting in a station somewhere awaiting the call for a traditional fleet battleship.
It's in my mind a complete ship of the line meant for nothing more than firing a broadside in the face of whichever **** gets on the wrong side of the true emperor.
Like it's name sake i hope for it to be destroyed in a full on charge against the enemy, anything less will upset me greatly.

Oldest ship in my collection. My first Kestral bought in December 2005.
Ship I own with the most history behind it. My buzzard bought an fitted in August 2006 when covert-ops cloaks where going for 60M+. That ship has seen the very first DDD set off in TQ. It's seen the first DDD used in anger, and another half dozen after that along with surviveing the BoB vs ASCN war. I still use the ship to this day. |

A little over a year and a half old, seen multiple harassment missions and a few all out fights as ranged fire support. Best fight it was involved in was against a shiny new hurricane. Two Manticores and one tackling wolf ate a 50 % faction fit / 50% T2 Hurricane to death. Guy wasn't a newb either so it wasn't easy.
Second is a Ferox I'd lost some months back to a EXM gate camp. Until that point it had survived nearly a year and a half of constant anti piracy, and later piracy, as my heaviest flagship.
I gun fitted it after the drake came out and though obsolete it still had a place in my heart. Now it has a place in some ones wallet, heh.

A merlin from somewhere around August 2006. Now sits in a hangar gathering dust. Oldest ship I still use would be my Raven, I guess. Bought it in desperation in mid 2007. However, the one with the most history would be a salvaging destroyer sitting in Jita from early 07. I used it to salvage when it was first introduced, and made a cool 200 mil in a week doing it. Too bad prices are low now. :P

Yeah, I'm tired - i guess that's what i meant to say in my muddled way when i said "ship you still fly."
In that case it'd be my Cyclone. I love that thing. Its age is artificially inflated (like my toon's :P) due to long absence; but it lived thru the end of our time in Curse, various reloc-ing around, building Unity station (RIP, sniff), and once tackled an Apoc and tanked it for several minutes until help arrived to finish it off. I lub my Cyclone in ways that are only legal in Gallente space

lol... Mine still has structure damage from the last suicide tackle it did in a mission.
Oldest ship... some condor I left sitting in station in the middle of nowhere after exchanging it for a rifter.
Ship that had the most kills until I flew sleepy... my Onyx. Lasted from about 2 weeks after they were introduced to the game until I flew it all sleepy and got caught by a nano curse on a gate... and then two Domis landed on it
And that onyx was up to 350+ kills... amazing little ship ------------

I've got a burst that dates from day two of launch (would have been day one, but we had to wait an extra day here in the states). I've got a probe and a slasher from day three. All NPC bought--no one was making them. No one *could* make them, at that point.
I've got a mammoth that's about a week "younger." Still fly the mammoth fairly regularly, and the probe on very odd occasions. Oldest combat ship is probably that slasher. Oldest PvP ship would be a rifter. I don't fly it, on to shinier, faster things now (confirmed hatred of battleships: too slow, not enough DPS for their speed, and carriers/dreads do not appeal at all for the same reason--plus cost).
Hell, I'd never even been podded until this year when I came back, and then it was gate lag that did it ("What's this email? ... your clones has ... wtf? My phoon is fine, I'm still cloaked and almost outside the bubble ... oh, I've stopped moving. Hm."). --

I'm focusing on high sec stuff for the sake of money right now so I can arm myself with a personal armada of well equipped ships - so I havn't lost anything in a while. I have a Raven I have had for going on probably 5+ months now.
I could of had some older ships but I was pretty much purely combat and worked in low-sec and 0.0 strictly for the majority of the time I have had this char - the average lifespan for those ships were probably lucky to see a month. ____________________

The lag the mines created was more lethal than their actual damage. Back in the day there was no fancy cloaking upon jumping from system to system. You would jump and your ship would just appear in the next system in 3-4 different spots called JIPs (Jump in points) Now, we used to deploy mines to lag the person jumping into the system, btw before the mines it was jet cans but GMs put a stop to that real fast, hence the timer for the jet-cans you see today. Anyway, the mines, they would lag people out, while they sat at a black screen loading space, on our screen they were dying and getting sent to their cloning bays
After mucho whineage, mines were phased out of game...

I didn't like it much, so it's still sitting in my hangar in Gelfiven.
I also have a Hurricane I used to rat in in 0.0 before I finally broke down and trained up to fly battleships for more efficient sec status grinding... it remains in my hangar in 0.0.
Other than those two ships, which are both about 4-5 months old (the 'cane has had its insurance renewed once), I have never flown the same ship for more than a week... I like taking risks in the interest of fun PvP, so I tend to die.

It has been in 3 empire wars, low sec delivery master, experimental nano ship, experimental mini-enyo, anti-inty ship, corp frigate training ship (was used to teach new guys about tracking), experimental bs tackler and all round funship.
I love the thing, and I have him now sat fully fitted in pride of place in my ship collection.

I've only been playing a couple of years, so nothing too old that I bought.
But I do have an ancient Badger, plain badger, that I found adrift in deep space using Observator probes. It was fitted with two, count them, two, identical afterburners, so I think it might date from the days when you could burn multiple afterburners on the same ship. When was that?
I've since taken the Badger into a war situation -- it happened to be parked near by -- after a corpmate in a kestrel killed an indy war target full of goodies. Ended up under the guns of a battleship, but got away.

Couldn't you fit 2 as long as you don't bring them online? I know you could fit BS size guns to a noobship to transport them. Even though you couldn't do anything with them.
Also, don't ships in space disappear with server maintenance?

I was one of the first to encounter the web scrambling Mordus frigate back before they added a red warning to the mission text. By good luck I happened to pop it early on so I survived with a warp-out.
Eventually I outgrew it and left it at an old agent station.
Early last year I picked it up and used it as a loot ship. Now it's been retired again because I have a Golem for looting.
I wonder when I'll next use it

2nd ship i bought in the game.
Recalling it, i mined in nothing but a imicus (first ship) i bought in the first day after scraping up 140k isk with mining belt 3 in cist.... stayed there the week mining belt to station full cargo drops, earning me around 1.5 million.... come the friday of that first week, payed 1.4 million for the lit3... a massive 7! jumps away (felt like a big adventure at the time)
Had and used the ship extensively till i finaly got around to training for the lit5 around oct/nov 03.
fun days in eve realy.... that ship made me many friends at the time.... back in the day you could offer yourself up to go help on mining trips with players, help to haul ect ect...
In fact (ramble ramble) despite thinking 7 jumps were a great adventure at the time... few days later i was off on a mine with 7 others in a 0.2 to haul.... world then belongs to you.. before i knew it off to -sec mining.. banging npc's for fun... 0.0 all the way...

The longest surviving ships of mine that I can recall would be my old low-sec ratting Moa that I used for a couple of months in mid-2004 and now have gathering dust in Amarr. That, or the dual 10MN AB Badger II I have parked in 3JN, Deklein from about the same period, but saw even less use than the Moa.
The ship I was the most attached to was my first Armageddon, which I used for ratting in the JZV constellation long before there was an IAC, from around August/September 2004. From there I took it to Syndicate where it survived the VV-VCR fleet battles between JQA/friends and SPURM/friends, then later flew it to ASCN space where it survived the G/IRON/RZR southern invasion of Christmas 2005.
When Tribal Souls were evicted from Paragon Soul in 2006 I flew it down to LX5 where it was used for plexing for a while before the BOB/ASCN war. It was left there for some months until BOB & AXE became blue to each other, and I always meant to fish it out in 2007 but by the time I got around to getting down there again, BOB had abandoned the region. So I reluctantly sold it after three years.

I rat with it and have it nano fitted as best as what you can for a Daredevil. They didn't have much of a base speed. With the nano, I can engage PvP and have done so but I am pretty selective about my engagements with her. It doesn't have the uber special ability of say the Amarr version but it's still fun to fly and it looks so damn cool. The serpi family banner to the right? That's a Daredevil, or at least that's what the Daredevil looks like. |

That crow "PrSstens Lilla Krska" (referring to a Swedish childrens song about a crow) survived some 128 engagements and 9 large battles (not scoring kills in every one of them though) over a period of about a year. Also have a carrier that's been involved in uncountable fleetbattles (and some 30 capkills), but it's not very astounding for a carrier.
edit: had the wrong number of fleetbattles... I used a cheaper crow for most of them

Yeah, I have a few ships flown by ex-corp mates, long gone now, in my "personal hangar" in a system we used in late beta (hint: it's a 0.2, and if you were around then, the name "Leeluu" should be synonymous with (mostly failed) gate camping--yes, it was going on in beta).
Mining against 0.2 rats with probes ... literally mining while point-clicking around the belt in a big arc, manually toggling the miner1s, hoping we'd be able to warp out when belt rats spawned. Bought our frig BPOs with that--I only have one of those now (the probe, first one we bought).
Moved on to clearing belts in mid-sec shortly thereafter, I still have the "corp" iteron V our hauler used then (you out there anywhere, Izzy?). Bought our first cruiser BPOs that way. Then it was ship and ammo production ...
WTB a reset. I really miss the character and the feel of the early game. --

A while back i came across it again, and decided to name it, it's named 'cradle of life' cuz i thought that was appropriate and in a sense of nostalgia and drama, if i do ever decide to quit this game (and no this is not yet so u cannot have my stuffz) i will board it and fly my char of into the sunset
I also have my very first bs, a 3.5 year old megathron.. wouldn't be surprised if it is the oldest thron in the game hehehe _______________________________________________________ CCP, let us pay the online shop with Direct Debit!!!

Not counting the Velator, I do have an Exequror which I've had forever. They're just too ugly to die. I figure most players just feel pity for such an ugly ship. I still use it for salvage operations, which it does quite well at. I've had that about 2 1/2 years. |

Can't u stick in a station can instead? if u need the hangar that is? :D
I actually did upgrade that mega to a navythron, but in my rpg mind, it is basically still the same ship, just with upgrades, every now and then i board her and fly her around a bit, but she will never see active service again, it would be too heartbreaking for me to see her destroyed. |

My first ship ever "Tashiell Gao' Ibis" is swiftly destroyed by concords just after few seconds of my creation for my first attempt of suiciding: i stole and fitted another civilian rail from someone's wreck and tried to kill one of my noob-corpmates. The oldest ship up to date is a "bantem"spelling?! (the caldari mining frig) i bought just after the above noob-ship is destroyed, (after the 15 timers ofcause) i used it for looting from a friend's missions without his promission of cause. He shares standing with me, so he couldn't careless. |

I have a Merlin a friend gave me.
We were both pretty new and I lost my first cruiser, which took me ages to save up for back in the old days of '04, trying to save her from being ganked in a belt. I thought I was doing quite well against the three of them :(
She got away in her Caracal (her first cruiser) and felt compelled to give me her old Merlin as a thankyou for suiciding my ship. I repaid the favour a year later by diligently mining (the only time I have EVER mined) and guarding mining ops (which was much more fun) designed to replace her first BS loss :p
She no longer plays, but the ship remains as a testament to people sticking together and helping each other out when no-one else can or will.
One unforseen side effect of this on my journey to the Dark Side was that if I ever come across an opponent who engages me to try and save someone else, no matter how outclassed he is, I am compelled to give him something to recognise his sacrifice (no matter if the original target also died). Be that isk, advice or both. |

Damn, I knew I should have clarified more. Well, we got kicked out of DB1/ZS (ooooold news), I loaded all my modules onto a carrier, and flew my unfitted, insured raven from Omist of Ka-tet's home system. However, I got ganked en route ( ) and with 102 mil in my pocket, went to buy a 100 mil raven from Ka-tet. Well, I guess it wouldn't be out of desperation, more out of necessity. Oh well. |
