26 men, women and children were rescued today out of a death can discovered while on patrol. Since we began this work, the pro-slavery propaganda wizards of the Amarr Empire have tried to suggest that those we rescue on these operations are hardened criminals trying to escape the empire and justice due them there. Those we rescue are anything but hardened criminals. Many are slaves that have been so abused and worked so mercilessly, that they are no longer of use to their Amarrian masters and so sent for sale in the Caldari markets of Jita. Some are slaves destined for the human trafficking markets of the capsuleer wealth fueled systems of Caldari and Gallente space. So, the Amarrians slavers call these unfortunate ones hardened criminals and spread that word about. The big disappointment is that people who ought to know better, believe this propaganda.
Let me tell you who these rescued ones are: They are enslaved members mostly of the Minmatar tribes. They are men, women, boys, girls, moms, dads, grandmas, grandpas, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, single people, orphans, the elderly, the sick, etc. Do we look into the background of those we rescue? Yes, of course, but first we treat their wounds, feed their empty stomachs and clothe their bodies with clean raiment. The criminals are not these rescued slaves, but those who enslaved them and those who dumped them into space to die.
I do expect to be accused of harboring criminals, in fact we do. They are called slavers, and sometimes militants or terrorists. These are separated from the slaves that are rescued and are placed in the DSTON detention centers in Korama and Egbinger. If being kept from capital punishment or generational slavery is considered harboring, then they are harbored.

Todako i have had dealings with Ston and the Disciples, handing over slaves and homeless people to your organisation. I would like to take these slavers off your hands. I will be travelling to the Armarr Empire and can return these people back to there homeland.
If you are happy to hand over some of the slavers you are holding let me know. I have dealt with Ston in the past and am happy to deal with him in exchange when ever you are passing through the Niyabainen Solar System, if you are happy to hand over any of the slavers. |

Small question; Are you folks planning to consolodate the running tally on your "Wall of shame" into something a little easier to reference?
I understand that there will be a goodly number of Capsuleers out on patrol for contraband/slaves in transit and it might be a good idea to have a list of offenders to hand so that they may be scrutinised more closely. |

I am back to relieve Manwe from patrol for a while. Early on this morning, there were two death cans discovered. 35 human lives were saved and 8 hounds rescued. As for consolidating the wall of shame, that would involve going back and compiling many pages of entries. Ugh, time consuming. If someone wants to do that, please feel free.
All questions about DSTON policy regarding the disposition of all rescued people now goes through the new CEO. Contact him personally as he doesn't read the IGS.

When arriving from station on patrol, a death can was immediately discovered. 59 people were on board. They were low on oxygen and were cold. They were beginning to become sick from radiation exposure. They thought death was near. Medical staff is treating them now and they will pull through.
Does anyone know if it is possible to fit an ordinary ship with a transneural burning scanner configured for a non-pod cockpit? The isolation of the pod is becoming unbearable to me. I wish to stand on a ship bridge with my crew. Perhaps it is just time to think about being a simple mortal.

Two rescues were conducted during this morning's patrol. I total of 102 human lives were rescued as well as 7 hounds. The second rescue was the typical scenario of 2 slave traders illegally transporting a group of slave out of Amarr space to be sold in the squalor of Jita. Since the fare was pre-paid, the pilot had no compunction to take the risk of being caught by customs. So, into space the who group is jettisoned.

My rescue crew was busy this morning with two rescues at the same general location. Quite often, we are targetted while on patrol. Seldom are we attacked, because we carry nothing of value that would justify the risk of Concord intervention. But, it is always a bit unnerving to hear the targeting warning sound in the middle of a rescue. 196 lives were rescued this morning. Each life, though only one of several billion slaves in this cluster, is important to DSTON. This is the heart of our work.

I saw you doing this rescue. I was passing through your patrol area at the time. Keep up the good work. I once opposed you, even hated you. Many still feel as I once did. While cleaning up a bunch of wrecks floating around a gate, I checked out a can. Inside were 76 people who had been ejected while asleep. They had no idea why this had happened to them. They said they were bound for some Amarr holder, they did not know which one. When I told them where I found them, they were completely confused as to why someone would leave them to die like that.

Every time I venture between the Amarr empire and the other areas of high security space, I find plenty of ejected slaves and other contraband. I believe it is.something of a sport to capsuleers, however if I made a post everytime I took some to stain to start new lives, then I feel it would create too much traffic on IGS.
In any case, if it bothers people too much that the treatment of slaves and other livestock is the way it is, I say join the minmatar milita. |

Two rescues were conducted a few hours apart. Those who rescue people from space are welcome to report their rescues here if they do not wish to start other threads. To acknowledge the value of even one life rescued is well worth the bother it may cause the all-mighty, self-important readers of the IGS. Those I rescue love to see their lives acknowledged as valuable in this small way.

I have been requested to transport slavers from temporary facilities to our Detention Center in Korama. The route takes me through a patrol area. Three rescues in two attempts to make the journey, have brought me back to the temp facility. Today, I should make it to Korama. I believe our new CEO will be making an interesting announcement today regarding some of the inmates of our Detention Center.

This rescue was from a few days ago, but I forget to report it. The Exotic Dancer is being provided temporary employment in one of our temporary centers until she decides where she wants to go. The story of these two is one we have heard before. It is a story of shameless human trafficking and the treating of people as a consumable product. This is attitude of some capsuleers.

So many times we have eard mention of this temporary detention centre for slavers and other individuas simply doing their jobs. Occasionally you mention how you will contact the authorities to 'deal' with them. However according to my sources, you have nt yet contacted anyone within the Amarr government to discuss transferring these people back to Amarr custody.
You so boldly, and loudly proclaim the right of freedom and then quietly deny it to those with whom you do not agree on their chosen proffesion. Slavers are people too. Release them.

A very quiet week on patrol. It is hard to know if that is because the slave trade across borders is slow or if we are just missing the active areas. These 89 people are now safe and begin new lives in as much freedom as is possible within the unjust laws of our Cluster. One day, we hope that the laws will change and Capsuleers will allowed to free those once designated "slaves."

Thank you Ston, for taking so many days in a row of patrol. After taking my first shift in a while, I found a death can with 10 aboard. They are safe now. The Slavers apparently got into a conflict with the ship crew prior to being ejected. They were badly injured. Thanks to first aid provided by the former slaves, they survived and were alive when I discovered them. They are now in our medical facilities undergoing treatment. We have had numerous situations where slavers could have been killed or harmed by the slaves they were jettisoned with, but this has never happened. I have often asked the former slaves why. The response I get is something like, "We do not want to become that."

60 people are alive, alive instead of dead in the cold of space. This is cause for gladness for them, but also for me. This work continues to be done non-violently. I often see a young pilot who drops cans in the area of our patrols. She usually drops scrap metal or some other small item, hoping, waiting, longing for an opportunity to act violently without legal consequences. A thirst for violence, this I will never understand.

In this death can I found 8 people in two groups, one of three and one of five. My crew ascertained that they were from two different holders. They were frightened and cold. Once aboard, the crew gave them a medical screening, warm blankets and something warm to drink. Tonight, they will sleep in clean beds. They will meet others who also were rescued. They will eat at a table in the company of friendly faces. Perhaps for the first time in their lives, they will experience being valued as a human person, not a thing, not a commodity.

It is always somewhat of a false distinction to call one rescue more meaningful than another, but when there is a rescue of only one, it is definitely unique. When a whole crews' attention is focussed on the value of one single human life, something profound happens. All of humanity is dignified when the poorest and lowliest and most endangered among us is valued. When we spend resources to save one, we add value to all. This was one such rescue.

50 Militants were rescued while on early morning patrol. As with many groups of militants, getting information about them isn't immediately easy. Now to a different issue. Should the Disciples of Ston "release" slavers rescued from death cans?
Release where? to whom?
The Disciples of Ston hold to a strict opposition to the death penalty and to generational slavery of any kind. When a man commits a crime, we do not believe that his wife and children, grandchildren, etc should be enslaved for it. We do not believe he should be executed. He should be punished appropriately and ideally rehabilitated.
The Slavers we rescue are breaking Amarrian and Caldari law by engaging in slave trade across borders. When such slavers are caught for these crimes, they become and great embarrassment to both the Amarrian and Caldari governments. Slavers are executed or generationally enslaved themselves for such crimes. This is unconscionable to us. We offer a merciful alternative in our detention and rehabilitation programs. Most slavers are grateful not to be returned to Amarr; they know what will happen to them there.
No Amarrian government agency has opposed this nor confronted it. We have invited the input of said government, but no one has responded. We certainly will not release these individuals into the hands of unscrupulous capsuleers and we will not risk releasing them only to have executed or enslaved. SANKOFA |
