Like I see it now, it seems that every post with "support" selected is +1 support, and every post without it selected is -1 support... no idea what goes on when people make a second/third post and so on, but it's creepy.
The "support / neutral / against" option should be a per-character and per-thread option, WITHOUT requiring a post at all, and should be able to be changed at any given time.

I'm not sure about that - the can flipping thread has lots of people without 'thumbs up' icons next to their avatars, but it only has a score of -1 for some reason.
Also, changing my support for this thread took it from 30 to 31, so I'd say it's bugged.

I would hope so! Cutting out your opinion would be counterproductive.
I thought at first that "neutral" already has an option, called "not posting." 
But i think a quick headcount of thumbs-down would be a good idea, if they're going to poll or track thumbs-up.

I agree with the OP, a nay and neutral choice are also needed.
AlsoāMaking the choices in a poll format as opposed to with each post made every time you post in the same thread would be a more accurate way to gage the opinions.

Bad ideas should simply be left unsupported.
No reason in allowing trolls to damage the support numbers on good ideas.
