I'm actually kind of amazed this one hasn't been posted yet. The Eve forums suck, and we all know that they suck. You can't stay logged in for any extended period of time, the search function would have been embarrassing a decade ago, and the "ingameboard" can't be read in game. I can think of half a dozen pieces of open-source bulletin board software that would dramatically improve the forums, not to mention that there's an entire site dedicated to patching the problems with the forums.
The whole "posting as characters" thing is nice, but just about everything else needs to be reworked. I'd like to see CCP do something about this, and if the CSM can bring it forward, that'd be a good start.

And one of the first fixes should be removing the requirement to post in order to show support in this sub-forum.
We really don't need to turn every thread here into spamfest.
Think about how long a thread must be in order to reach the 5% requirement for the CSM to be *required* to review and issue: not only do they need 11,000 people to support it, they need 11,000 people to post here in that thread.
Can you imagine the CSM trying to sift through the endless pages of "/signed" trying to find out what the issue really is.

Forums need some help badly. When we use an outside search engine for better information gathering than CCP's own search, its a sign of things gone broken.

I support reworking the backbone, but most gameforums out there are buttugly and unfunctional so lets not go that way.
I would really prefer overhauling the backbone but keeping the style as close to what we have now as possible. Aint no other forum that is as nice to read as the eve forums.

I support a software upgrade to the forums.
I also believe that the highest SP character from an account should be the only chatacter your able to post with.
far to many alt posts areound here.
If you want to alt post .. pay for an extra account and train an alt on it.

Probably other functionality would be nice to have.

It is child's play to integrate any BB forum software with another SQL based authentication. The search is a joke, to the point that I have to go to google or eve-search to find threads more than a few days old.

most needed is imho a better search function. Since the EVE Wiki is due to come soonÖ and CCP doesn't document anything really, searching the forum is all you can do when looking for information. It's a shame that a third party provides a better tool than CCP itself (thanks to chribba btw).

I was going to ask how a company like CCP with their size, technical savvy and computer orientation, didn't have a dedicated webmaster making this ever shinier. It is almost exactly the same thing as when EVE started (we have a "Report" button now).

They certainly have made improvements, but it still occasionally (and randomly) decides that one login isn't enough, but 15 is just right.

The one I'm referring to is at the top of the right sidebar on all pages. You'd think it'd search the item database and guides and stuff, but it only seems to return forum hits from about 2005. The real search function is at www.eve-search.com, of course, but as useful as Chribba is to have around, we shouldn't need third-party tools to implement a forum search algorithm worth a damn.

Wherever I go on the internet, forums from the major sources (phpbb, vbulletin, etc) always do much better than any in house forums.
So I'd suggest getting one of those packages and modifying it to work with Eve.
