Edited by: Lachenlaud on 28/05/2005 23:27:11 Greetings from Golden Oak Industries!
I'm developing an Eve Skills Chart in Excel. It will allow you to calculate how long individual skills will take you to train, set a goal for all your skills, and give you a total time until you reach your goal. The sheet takes into account all of your info once you enter your base attributes from your character, and the current amount of skill points you have invested in each skill.
BUGFIX/MAJOR UPDATE 5/28/05 v11.52 If you would like to try it out, go here http://www.goi-eve.com/emd/EMDv1152.zip.
May 28, 2005 - Ok I've added the missing skills and made a few other tweaks to the sheet. Sorry for the misfire on shipping v11.xx without them. Should all work fine now
May 26, 2005 - Firstly - Many apologies to all who have been waiting so long for this update. This release has some major patches to it. Ships tab has been updated once again. A new 'Production' tab is also included. The skills should all be available now as well. MOST IMPORTANTLY!! The AUTOUPDATE FEATURE IS WORKING!! PLEASE TEST IT! I have once again included the AutoUpdate.doc file to the Zip to give you an idea as to how to set this up. (Note: Minor bug fix to change Chief Tactical Officer to Starbase Tactical Office v11.01)
Extra Special Thanks go to Histracko for all his hard work in helping with the sheet - were it not for his extra-efforts to keep me motivated and all the time he's spent on updating things to help me out it wouldn't be here today.
(Keep the ideas/bug reports coming, and if I'm missing a skill, PLEASE send me a screen cap of it via e-mail at [email protected])
Please note, you must use a web-browser OUTSIDE of eve to download this file and you must have a recent version of Excel and understand a spreadsheet to effectively use this tool. Evemail me with comments/suggestions on it or use the email address located at the bottom of the sheet to contact me outside of Eve. (The structure of the filename is now EMD <for Eve Master Datasheet> + v <for Version> followed by a number #### <for v Number xx.xx>, thus EMDv1100 would be Eve Master Datasheet version 11.00. Major updates change the primary first digit, while minor updates change the sub number .xx)
THANK YOU FOR THE STICKY!!!
SPECIAL NOTE TO THE FORUM OPS: This post has become long and unwieldy. Would it be possible for you to delete everything between this post and MY last post in this thread? Pretty Please??
Regards,

Looks very interesting, I'll have a play at work later today. I currently use a combination of my own (not very complicated spreadsheet) and Eveskillmon.
Thanks,

Edited by: Kees on 05/05/2004 13:54:51 Looking good :)
I am impressed with what I have seen, but consider me a beta tester!
You appear to have missed out 'research' skill in science.
Also, the attributes calculated in the spreadsheet don't appear to match my actual ones in game. For example:
I started the game as a sebiestor tinkerer which gives me a starting attribute of 11 int, I have an int implant of +3 and analytical mind trained to lvl 5. I ngame i have a total int of 22, in the spreadsheet i have an int of 19.
I would like to help with the above, but do not know the correct formulae, also you have used lookup tables which baffle me :)
Anyway, what you have produced is very nice. Keep up the good work.
[edited] Just noticed you have Guerilla tactics as a rank 3 skill, is it not rank 2? ------------------------------ Refiner, Manufacturer, Researcher, Hunter, Adviser, Hauler, anything but miner! |

Yep, saw that - already added it to my revisions list.

Hmmmm... am I misunderstanding how this works?
11 Base INT +5 from skill +3 from implant -- 19 Total INT
Is there something else that affects your INT that I'm not accounting for? Boosters, drugs, etc? Anyone know the answer to this one?
Or is it possible you have a graphical bug that is affecting your in-game display.
Anyone can enlighten me about this, please feel free.
Originally by: Kees I would like to help with the above, but do not know the correct formulae, also you have used lookup tables which baffle me :)
The formula works on my character (so far) but I don't have any implants (yet). It was my understanding that the implants gave a number of points based on the level of implant. Can you double check to see how the bonus is worded on your particular implant?
Originally by: Kees Anyway, what you have produced is very nice. Keep up the good work.
I shall! Keep up the feedback! Thanks much!
Originally by: Kees Just noticed you have Guerilla tactics as a rank 3 skill, is it not rank 2?
Hmmm - I'll check on it in game. Pretty sure it said 3, but I'll add this to 'The List'.
Thanks again!

Another thing to add to the list, is your "days to current skill goal". It adds more days when I set my goal to a lower level and even with no goals set, it shows 200+ days to goal

Remember that the learning skill increases your attributes by 0.02% per level.
So learning 5 will increase your attributes by 10%. Nothing to see here .... move along. |

Lachenlaud,
I was looking at your spreadsheet as well. there is one formula i found that can be improved to make the time need to reach goals and all accurate. I entered all my skill info in, and a few of my skills have an extra few points towards them, but if the goal is not set to the next high skill lvl then it adds a negative training time value (I found it because the negative training time i had for skills without goals set was larger than the training time to my next goal)
To fix it all you ave to do is expand Column F a little bit. You currently have a formula like this: IF(D12=0,0-E12,IF(D12=1,SUM((250*B12)-E12),IF(D12=2,SUM((1414*B12)-E12),IF(D12=3,SUM((8000*B12)-E12),IF(D12=4,SUM((45255*B12)-E12),IF(D12=5,SUM((256000*B12)-E12),"ERR!")))))) To fix it you just have to add a check to see if that is greater than or less than zero like this: IF(IF(D12=0,0-E12,IF(D12=1,SUM((250*B12)-E12),IF(D12=2,SUM((1414*B12)-E12),IF(D12=3,SUM((8000*B12)-E12),IF(D12=4,SUM((45255*B12)-E12),IF(D12=5,SUM((256000*B12)-E12),"ERR!"))))))>0,IF(D12=0,0-E12,IF(D12=1,SUM((250*B12)-E12),IF(D12=2,SUM((1414*B12)-E12),IF(D12=3,SUM((8000*B12)-E12),IF(D12=4,SUM((45255*B12)-E12),IF(D12=5,SUM((256000*B12)-E12),"ERR!")))))),0)
That will remove the negative training time to reach goals.

(Intelligence + Analytical Mind + Implant) * Learning = Actual Intelligence Raw Intelligence = 19, so the actual intelligence would thus be (with Learning 5) 19*1.1 = 20.9 In game this is floored, and is thus shown as 20. Since Kees say he's got 22 ingame his basic intelligence ought to be 12, not 11. --

Ahh! I think I understand now. Instead of calculating the 'learning' skill into the individual Per Minute Rates.... I should look at it as an 'Attribute' bonus and apply it thus. Means I have to change a few formulas, but it makes sense.
The eve documentation is a bit deceiving. on this (see previous post).

Nice sheet - much prettier than my effort :-)
The formula for skill points (this will simplify a lot of the cells): 2^((2.5*lvl)-2.5)*250*rank
Also I'd change it to calc current skill points from current level rather than the other way round - it's much quicker to put in levels (although arguably not as accurate if you change skills before reaching the next level).
Lastly it's nice if you put in a priority column - that way you can plan ahead and focus on the skills you want to train 1st (and if you split across two sheets you can use autofilter to show only the high priority skills).

Well well - someone thinks along the same lines I do. ;-> Though I'll be continuing to calc on skill points rather than level because the whole purpose of the last few columns is to give me an idea how long i have to go.
Can you simplify this for me - not sure I understand what I'm looking at:
2^((2.5*lvl)-2.5)*250*rank
put it as if you were putting in on a chalkboard for a math class.
Just posted an update by the way - the URL has changed since I changed the file name! I made it shorter. Also - for those of you who don't realize it - the first character is a ZERO not an OH.

Lets see... mathimatically it works out that 45255*8=362040, whereas 45255 is the number of skill points you need to get level 4 on a rank=1 skill.... multiply that by 8... well, you get the idea.
Looks like another eve bug to me. Unless the devs do math differently (if one of them would care to comment?).
You're saying you're at skill level 4 with 1 point less than that. I'll fudge it for now, but that's just plain weird. The update is already posted

It's caused by a rounding error - the formula I posted earlier doesn't suffer from this. There's nothing really to explain about the formula - try it and you'll see it's works.
If you really don't want to use the formula then use 45254.834 not 45255 and round off after multiplying by rank.
The rounding error will also happen on lvl 2 skill point calcs as it's really 1414.213562. It's only rounded at the end after multiplying by rank. The other levels (1,3 and 5) work out to a round number before multiplying by rank so you won't get rounding errors on them.
I'd post my sheet but I've never gotten round to updating it since pre-Castor times so it's missing lots of skills.

Hi again Lachenlaud :)
Anyway, a few further points for you. Consider it a bug report
One of the social skills on the skill description page has a typo. It should say bonus.
The tempest on the ships page says 450 shield, it should be 4450 i think.
Finally, I get an error with my metallurgy skill. I currently am at lvl 4 with 248,193 points, when i enter goal of lvl 5 the 'time to goal' comes up as ERR.
Hope this helps rather than gives you more work ------------------------------ Refiner, Manufacturer, Researcher, Hunter, Adviser, Hauler, anything but miner! |

Not quite sure what you're asking me to do here.
Current format of the time fields is as follows:
If the number of hours remaining is less than 24, it displays as hours - ex. - HH.FF h (whereas HH=whole hours and FF=decimal fraction of an hour, and h=hours visual designator)
If the number of hours is 24 or over it displays as days - ex. - DD.FF (whereas DD=whole days, and FF=decimal fraction of a day, and d=days visual designator)
Are you asking me to change the time display to be actual HH:MM in Hours and Minutes respectively?
That is eventually the plan, but I have yet to implement it. Please keep an eye out for it in a future release if that's the case, if not, contact me with further explaination of your concept.

Regards,
I think it's safe to assume this. Some people may also not realize that it is fraction of an hour/day. Just a little bit more math will make it a lot more user friendly. Of course there's always the "If you want to know what .27 hours is just multiply by 60!" However for some strange reason this is considered rude, so i think it would be best to just go ahead and do that when you can. -----------------------------------------------

Not quite sure what you're asking me to do here. <SNIP> Are you asking me to change the time display to be actual HH:MM in Hours and Minutes respectively?
I think it's safe to assume this. Some people may also not realize that it is fraction of an hour/day. Just a little bit more math will make it a lot more user friendly.
Ok, its done! Now it shows Days/Hours/Minutes for each one (Next/Goal/Max)!
Enjoy!

Well......
Now that you mention it :)
I don't know if it is appropriate for the spreadsheet, but I have a spreadsheet myself that uses bits of other ppl's spreadsheets. I use it to determine selling costs of items I make. However, it is very customised to my personal skills and the bp's I own.
What I would like is either a ss or db that contains ALL (if possible) BP data for unresearched blueprints. From this, with a little tinkering, any user could input their relevant skills and also input intended research plans such as PE or ME. This in turn would give the user a projected cost in terms of minerals, isk and time required for BP copying, manufacturing and all things related.
This appears to be a huge job, but you did ask!
Maybe I'll look at this in the summer when I have a lot of time off work. ------------------------------ Refiner, Manufacturer, Researcher, Hunter, Adviser, Hauler, anything but miner! |

Kees, there is a spreadsheet that does what you are asking. Look in the factories forum. It is great.
As far as this one. Thanks for all the hard work. I do have a question though...What does HRL mean on the skills page?
Thanks again for making this available.

HRL = Highest Level Required. Basically - if you get a skill with an HRL# to That level, then you can learn all skills that are associated with it. If you get ALL the HRL skills to their respective numbers, you should (in theory) be able to learn any other skill in the game.

Pehaps make the ships and implants sheets lists so that you can sort easily by various things i.e looking for a mem implant in Minmatar space you can sort by min and find it easier. I think you need excel 2003 for this though, but just something I did to my implant sheet but can't do to my ship sheet as you protected it
But very nice work and thanks for the effort thats gone into it

I've put in the sort function (it's simple enough). It's included in v2.02!
As to the protected status - All you have to do to 'unprotect' the sheet is go to tools, protection, unprotect sheet. I just did that so I wouldn't accidentally type over it.
Thanks so much for the feedback!

Thanks for the feedback! I'll be releasing 4.00 soonÖ. Going to be adding a Missions Logsheet and an Alliance tracker, as well as a few other corp management tools (Shares Tracking/Mining Op Tracking/Etc).
If anyone else can think of a few things they'd like to see, I'd be happy to see about adding them in.

The total time doesn't add up quite right because of rounding on the 'Minutes'. I didn't want to be so anal as to add a 'seconds' column. Just seemed like overkill to me.
I'll lock out the formula fields again in v4 and leave instructions on how to unlock it for those that want to in the sheet.

imo u dont have to put the hours and days and stuff in it. just the hour. everybody can guess that 72.35 hours equals 3 days and 20 minutes.
the days is easy to calculate in excel (divide by 24) and the hours should be clear enough. (in my oh so humble opinion btw ;P ) ___________________________ "what did that button do??"

Once I get all the features to where I want them to be - it is very likely that i will turn it into an 'installable' program that you will simply have to update without cutting/pasting stuff. Thats a bit down the road though.

This definitely deserves a sticky, Keep up the awesome work.
One thing I would change is the OreCalc sheet, It would be nice if it was a little more versatile for yield rates. Maybe allow the user to just add in the station efficiency and the cut the station takes to calculate the end yield. Also a price for buying and selling the ore, handy for those who aren't sure whether their ore will be worth more in a processed or unprocessed state.
Since I'm not in a corp, or be in a position to be producing equipment I can't comment on those sections, but I hope you stick at this, it shows a hell of a lot of promise.

Excellent ideas all! I'll look at this next. Just finished making some changes (not yet released) to the 'Research' page of the sheet. It now calculates the 'Finish' time on a research slot and flags you when it's done. Some other cosmetic changes and bug fixes. Should be a v4.0x release by this coming weekend.

I've actually made an attempt on redesigning the ore sheet myself, my god is the maths complicated. I've only got the Veldspar calculations done, and I'm hoping that the maths will continue to work right through to the end.
On a side note, does anyone know how to force excel to leave specific cell references in formulae alone when copying and pasting, its a swine to keep rejigging it.

=A1 will change to A2 if you copy down 1 row and B1 if you copy to the right one column. If you want a reference to remain pointed to a particular location when copying, use the $ symbol...
$A1 will keep the column fixed, but the row can change A$1 will keep the row fixed, but the column can change $A$1 will keep both fixed.

That's it, I knew it was a $ that did it, but couldn't remember the usage.
I've managed to get the veldspar calculations working great, scordite needs some tweaking as it's out by a single unit of minerals.

Lachenlaud,
I just emailed you with a copy of a simple spreadsheet that might be of interest to others. I made this quick and dirty to meet my needs. There are three calculators that work this way:
1. You supply the quality and level of the agent that you want to work with, and it tells you the effective standing you need to work with that agent.
2. Works the same as number one, but also tells you the Agent's Corp -> Your Char standing you need to work with research agents. Actually, you can reword number 2 and drop number 1 since it repeats the same information.
3. You supply your highest effective standing, be it Agent->You, Agent's Corp->You, or Agent's Faction->You, and the level of agent that you want to work with, and it tells you what quality agent that you can work with.

A few ideas for your awesome skills chart:
1)Automatic checkmark next to "have skill" in "skills" tab if you have any skillpoints in that skill. Something like: =IF(($F$13)>0,"YES","NO"), (I know the formula is not correct) - could also introduce red/green color codes instead of yes/no.
2)A third kind of color code (yellow) next to "have skill" in "skills" tab if you are able to begin training a specific skill (you have the requirements) but have not yet begun training it. (alot of work, I know)
3)Incorporating your present refining, refining eff. and the specific ore refining skills from the "skills" tab into the calculations used in the "orecalc" tab as these are very inaccurate, atleast for me :) (alot of work too)
4) incorporate an option to specify your mining speed (m3 per minute for an example) and make a earning per hour formula for each ore type according to this speed. (A further option would be to also consider the time (2-3 minuttes) used for each hauling of ore, according to the selected cargo capacity)(I imagine a bs would be able to fill up a hauler 4-5 times per hour)
5)many newbies sell their ore instead of refining it because of their low refining skills. And some corps have members that sell their ore to the corp for specific corp prices. So incorporate an option to specify ore prices aswell in the "orecalc" tab as you have done with minerals. Each ore type should now have 2 isk values, one for when the ore is refined, and one for the ore that is not.
6)A new addition: A list of all the known NPC pirats with: Name, Bounty, Security rise, the range of system security levels of which they have been spotted(0,0-0,3 for an example), notes about their weaponry etc. (insane amount of work, I know)
well, that was a few ideas, I know some of them might sound strange or simply requires too much work in order make, but perhaps you can use some of them anyway.
Thx for the great skill chart, keep up the good work :)

Very nice work.
But you're missing 2 skills which are readily available on the market...
Cloaking Rank 6 Req: Electronics lvl 5 Pri: Intelligence Sec Memory Skill at using Cloaking devices. 10% per level reduction in targeting delay after uncloaking.
and
Covert Ops Rank 4 Req: Spaceship Command lvl 3 & Electronics Upgrades lvl 5 Pri: Willpower Sec: Perception Covert operations frigates are designed for recon and espionage operation. Their main strength is the ability to travel unseen through enemy territory and to avoid unfavorable encounters Much of their free space is sacrificed to house an advanced spatial field control system. This allows it to utilize very advanced forms of cloaking at greatly reduced CPU cost.
Info grabbed from eve-db since I'm at work... I'm sure the Perception & Willpower attributes are actually switched around.
No sign of Hypereuclidian Navigation or Astrometrics yet...

Just a note - am attempting to include some really cool functions in the next release - hence the delay. Hope it's worth it! It will be out by the weekend of the 17th (or soonÖ as some might say ;-))

Edited by: AtoningUnifex on 15/07/2004 15:20:13 Hmmm, just d/l'd version 7 and tried it on my Win2k Pro Sp4 pc at work... (Excel 2000 sp1) Enabled macros on prompt... Excel hangs...
Tried again, but selected disable macros... Excel hangs...
Also notice the sheet is more than double the size of version 6...
Edit: If I change macro setting to low security before loading, instead of responding to prompt, it loads... but when I try to run the macro it fails Run time error 1004... and in the debug it show this as the error line: Selection.QueryTable.Refresh BackgroundQuery:=False

I thought it was hanging for me as well, but takes a along time to load.
Edit: And yes, I am logged in and have the right numerical code for my toon.
But I cant get the auto update to work. Im macro and visual basic nub, so no idea why not. Hangs on this line: Selection.QueryTable.Refresh BackgroundQuery:=False

Oh.. forgot to mention... one of the side effects of the new AutoUpdate feature (if it works for you...):
It WILL show you your base attribs! :-D
One flaw I'm already aware of - it does NOT take into account +1 Implants (because the Eve XML document doesn't - not because of a failing in the sheet.... hope they fix that).

The only problem tho is (minor problem) if you have a skill that is currently in training, you get a #VALUE in the field for that skill, (easily fixed by typing in the actual value)

I believe the runtime error 1004 has something to do with the Win2K versions of excel. I'm going to play with this on a friends computer and see if I can't get it to work there.

Thanks.
Try updating again after you do it the first time. I've noticed that sometimes lag can cause it to not update certain skills. I have all of the ones mentioned above, and they do update for me....so it's not a spreadsheet issue.

It's looking very awesome indeed.
The debug error some people have been having is a port blocking issue, my home machine works great, but my work machine doesn't. I disabled excel's internet access on my home machine and re-ran the macro and it failed with the debug error. So anyone who is having problems with this from work can blame their friendly neighbourhood sysadmin. If you work for the same company as I do, then that's pretty handy, because that's me
I've also had the same problem with the spreadsheet updating though, It works the second time when I hit ctrl+G but never the first. The first time it's run it fills all the skill point fields with 0's.
Another minor problem is the skillbook field is protected and also the distribution contains some fields that have contents, flagging it as you having a skillbook when you may not.
Some pretty minor issues on an awesome bit of work, and what I'm sure is a huge timesink for you.

First of all, awesome job, wish I had the skills to do it myself :-)
I have had 1 minor problem with the auto update feature. Whenever I run it the skills Long Range Targeting and Torpedos never get updated.
Is it possible that thier position in the spreadsheet is causing this problem? I wanted to attempt to move the fields so that they correspond to the locations in the skill list but I wasn't sure if it would screw with other calculations in the sheet.
Also I have a bunch of Blood Raider and Sansha logs I would be willing to put on escrow for you to help with your list. Eve mail me in game if you are interested in them. I usually just trash them, at least giving them to you would put them to use. 2005.01.21 05:09:06combatYour Tachyon Beam Laser I perfectly strikes Blood Priest, wrecking for 533.1 damage. |

To be honest, I dont think my sending it will help you. All I did was delete the query you had at I9 on the sheet in question. I then created a new web query, trying to make it identical to your original query. The data does import, but it does not format with the sheet properly. I get it all displayed exactly the way its displayed on the XML web page. The macro runs to the end this way, but of course its useless. And since Im an absolute newb with this stuff I have no idea how to format it.
Looking around on the web I think its an issue with Excel 2000 and XML(meaning that Excel 2000 is not designed as well as later Excel versions are for XML importation.) My guess is a bunch of scripting has to be done in the background to import XML properly, but I have no idea how to do this.

Excel 2000 would require the use of the Microsoft XML, version 2.0 (or greater) library for XML parsing. This provides the DOMDocument class.
I would also use the Microsoft WinHTTP Services, version 5.1 to retrieve the XML file. This provides the WinHttpRequest class.

If so - just skip the chart.
Negative, a double-click on the file imports the whole document, and I can't find a way to open it from the Spreadsheet viewer in such a way that I would have control over which tabs I import.
The graph ends up taking two tabs of space instead of one which offsets all of the other tabs by that extra one. If you were to move the graph tab to the very end of the list, it would probably fix issues with OpenOffice. At the same time, I understand that also messes with how 1) you've got the graph grouped with the skill tabs, and 2) the fact that you've been reserving the rightmost tab for informational stuff. I guess it comes down to whether or not you're willing to give up those two things for compatibility.
OR you could just maintain two sheets. :P Heck, I'd maintain the second for you, but I don't have MS Office installed on this computer and I'd like to avoid it if possible.

Well lets see.... 1) It's a spreadsheet 2) People can look and see what is going on at the back-end if they choose to at any time 3) It can be changed at a whim to suite your personal needs/desires/requirements (assuming you know how to use excel) 4) If someone already has excel it doesn't require them to install 'yet another program'
Does it matter if it differs or does the same thing? Frankly I've never even looked at the 'Character Manager' and don't care to since it would require I install 'yet another program' on my system, and one with single purpose functionality... eg - EVE. I can do anything with excel... whether its eve related or not... shrug - doesn't matter much to me in either case.... I put the Eve Skills Spreadsheet together originally with myself in mind, ended up sharing it with a few people - and it was suggested I post it. Thus, I continue to develop it.
Nice try at hijacking my thread by the way. Cheap - but nice. (Oh - and thanks for the bump )

Thanks.... but it's ok if you use the "character manager", really.... I don't mind. I am sure it's a lovely piece of work.... I just refuse to use any compiled code that can have access to my password and login for a game or service I pay for with a credit card. Something that isn't at all necessary with my spreadsheet since you can log on to the eve website seperately and it can then go and open a web session to grab the info it needs (not to mention look at the code at any time since it's not compiled.)
Call me paranoid....

Since all the formulas are based on the 'Tab Name' and not location - it's not a problem for me to move the Chart tab to the 'end' of the row... I am curious however as to what the name of the 'second' tab that is generated for the chart is called.
I may have to install OpenOffice to see for myself...

Hey LL have you tried running Skill Checker in the spreadsheet that comes with the open source programme OpenOffice v1.1? I'm not using excel, would you mind taking a look at it ? I just wanted to know if skill checker performs worse under OpenOffice.

That's the nasty part. The second graph tab ends up taking the tab name of the tab immediately after Skillset Graph (Skill Descriptions). The contents of every tab gets bumped to the right by one. Basicly, every tab after the Skillset Graph tab ends up with the wrong contents. The last tab ends up with a default name of "Sheet17" since the bump created a requirement for another tab to hold data.

My time does not seem to match what even is saying though. I have added all my attributes. All the learning skill values. (Figure out to enter skill points and not skill level) And the current value of the skill. But Eve is saying i have an extra day or so from what the spread sheet is saying.
Example, I have learning 5 and the rest learning skills at 4. To train one of them to 5 eve: 7D 3M 29s sheet: 5D 30M
Any idea whats up?

+1 implants are now registering on the Character Info page - I checked the XML link as well and it's consistent. If you reimport your character data, your +1 implants should now be showing up.
I assume +2 implants should be working as well, but could someone confirm this?

Ahhhhh I see! Well that makes some sense I suppose - though Open Office needs to get their act together if they wish to compete.
I'll see what I can do about moving the graph page to the end.

Edited by: Loud Bob on 26/07/2004 15:02:56 Lach, Is this formula correct?
Points per minute = (primary attribute + secondary attribute/2) x (1 + 0.02 x Learning skill level)
If so,
I have willpower=27, Charisma=12
Therefore: Points per minute = (27 + 12/2) x (1 + .02x5) = (33) x (1.1) = 36.3
Yet according to the spreadsheet it is 33.6.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Example, I have learning 5 and the rest learning skills at 4. To train one of them to 5 eve: 7D 3M 29s sheet: 5D 30M
Any idea whats up?
mem 15 int 11 per 15 cha 11 wil 12
I've done some quick practical experimentation and can tell you what the problem is.
In the base attribute values you have put your current attributes, not what you started with. If you put 10 memory and 6 intelligence on the sheet, and the learning skills at the level you have stated above, it tallys with the in-game time.
If you put in your current attributes the sheet will add in the bonuses you get from the learning skills again, artificially decreasing your learning times.
You have to make sure you are putting down your starting values, not your current values. Take your current values and decrease each one by the number of levels in it's learning skill, that'll give you your base value.
Failing that just use the auto-import macro, it works great, except for the problem I have where I have to run the macro twice to get it to import properly.

Be careful there - the Learning skill modifies your attribute tallies, so even if you subtract your learning skills from your attributes there's a high probability that the base attributes may be off by 1.
The safest way to get your "base" attributes is to click on the XML link on the website's Character Info page. If your browser doesn't view the XML directly, save it to a file and open it with a text editor. Look near the bottom for something that reads similar to this:
<extraInfo> <skillPoints>1,234,567</skillPoints> <characterName>Drinky Winky</characterName> <characterRace>Teletubby</characterRace> <characterBloodline>Alcoholic</characterBloodline> <characterGender>BeatsMe</characterGender> <characterCorporation>Annoying Childrens Programming, Inc.</characterCorporation> <intelligence>1</intelligence> <charisma>1</charisma> <perception>1</perception> <memory>1</memory> <willpower>1</willpower> <cashBalance>5,059,699,935,146</cashBalance> ...
The attributes listed here are your base attributes. THESE are the numbers that you need to plug in.

Does not matter, the training times as stated on the spreadsheet compared to actual training times match (good enough for me).

Is it possible for you to change the macro to import a manualy downloaded xml file?

Tried on another comp, still cant auto update. It seams that that excel dont get access to the website even when Im logged in. I have found the line in the macro source where you fetch the xml info and I replaced it with hard coded file pointer to where I have manualy downloaded the xml file. Now it updates but the skill currently in training dont get parsed right. I get #VALUE! in the Current Column. But If I type in the the correct skills points I have in that cell the rest of the stuff works.

What time zone are you in?
I discovered something with the formulas in the auto-update.... they don't take into account your present 'TIME ZONE'.
I've fixed that and will be making yet another 'patch release' this weekend to account for that and certain other bugs that have been identified.

The Sheet looks great... but there is one thing, at least for me.
Since i don't use Excel but Openoffice i get the search and replace box when i use strg+g.. Because i never used Macros i don't know how to start it there. The help function didn't show me something about it.

Heyya Lachenlaud!
Had some problems with the autoupdate feature with Excel 2000 as mentioned earlier in this thead.
For details on redistributing of the MSXML and Win HTTP, check this document on MSDN http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/xmlsdk/html/sdk_redistributing.asp Cheers!

Not sure - I use Office XP so there might be something different about excel 2003. I do know that even though YOU are using Firefox for you main browser - Excel will default to IE in the background regardless.
Try opening your character in IE and then running the macro.

Dunno if this has been mentioned before or if i'm missing anything. But it seems that the attribute calculations aren't adding up.
In game i have:
Memory: 14 Intelligence: 13 Perception: 15 Willpower: 16 Charisma: 11
I have trained up the learning skills for Learning, Memory and Intelligence to lvl 5, and Perception, Willpower and Charisma to lvl 4 I have 1 Memory implant of +3
Now on the spreadsheat, i fill out my bases (calculated backwards from cause i don't remember what i filled in exactly). So I fill in: Memory: 14 - 5 - 3 = 6 Intelligence: 13 - 5 = 8 Perception: 15 - 4 = 11 Willpower: 16 - 4 = 12 Charisma: 11 - 4 = 7
And for the implants i fill in: Memory: 3 Intelligence: 0 Perception: 0 Willpower: 0 Charisma: 0
I also filled out all the learning skills up to the levels i have them in the spreadsheat.
And then it calculates this: Memory: 15 Intelligence: 14 Perception: 16 Willpower: 17 Charisma: 12
So it adds 1 more to each attribute then i should have.

just Dl'ed the file and it is awsome however I discovered that when I did the auto update it did not pull down the info for long range targeting skill. It showed that I did not have it when in fact I do have it trained to lvl 3. Thats the only thing I noticed everyhting else was there and worked fine.
Anyway just wanted to give an FYI on that. Great work.
Thanks

The correct way to calulate your attributes is:
Memory: (5+5+3)*1,1= 14,3 displays as 14 Intelligence: (7+5)*1,1= 13,2 displays as 13 Perception: (10+4)*1,1= 15,4 displays as 15 Willpower: (11+4)*1,1= 15,5 displays as 16 Charisma: (6+4)*1,1= 11,0 displays as 11
The 1,1 is Learning lvl5 giving you 2% to each attribute/lvl.

I get that the first time I run the macro, 2nd time everything goes through fine, not sure why.
One thing you do need to bear in mind is that you need to manually enter the skill point totl for the skill you are currently training, as that doesn't download correctly.

One word... SECURITY. I personally am paranoid about it. Here's the problem in a nutshell: In order for the autoupdate to work - you would have to expose your password to Eve on an unsecured connection. This means anyone tapping in (myself included since it would be running on a server I have control of) would theoretically be able to GET your account info.
I have yet to think of a way to do this without requiring your password to access the XML info.
I could post a version that doesn't auto-update - but that would be a step down from where I'm headed with this. Since it's in an Excel file that doesn't require you to connect to anything directly (since you log on to eve as usual through your browser to autoupdate) there is no danger of anyone gaining access to your account unless you are careless.
Anyone have any ideas for me on this? Come up with a reasonable method and I'll be happy to try it.

IE is already logged in so the spreadsheet doesn't actually access the password at all. It simply accesses a web query from a session that is already logged on. The macros in the spreadsheets are just doing simple queries. I've looked at them myself.

Time to goal doesn't add up correctly if some of the skills with goal set affect training times. Example: Assume Instant recall of lvl 2, with a goal of lvl 4. Time to goal will be: 2 days, 3 hrs, 11 minutes However, since you'll pass Instant recall level 3 on the way to 4 and this new level will also affect training time to level 4, the Time to goal is actually off by 2 hrs 51 minutes.
To check this yourself on the spreadsheet set Instant recall to level 2 with a goal of level 3. Time to goal: 7h 42m Next, set Instant recall to level 3, with a goal of level 4. Time to goal: 1d 16h 35m. Adding up these two times will yield: 2d 0h 17m instead of 2d 3h 11m
Minor thing as it only affects people who have yet to train learning skills which should be done directly. Besides, it would be a ***** to fix. Still would be nice if you'd do it.
I've just started looking at it and it seems to be a great piece of work :) |

I wrote to Lachenlaud about this a month ago ... In cell A25 in the "EVE-XML Data" sheet Long Range Targeting is mis-spelled. If you change it (it's actually not protected!!) everything should work fine.
I'm using Excel 2003 (and 2000) and I have no problems with either version of Excel.
Now I just hope that Lachenlaud will update the spreadsheed with the new skills

Originally by: Googalash just Dl'ed the file and it is awsome however I discovered that when I did the auto update it did not pull down the info for long range targeting skill. It showed that I did not have it when in fact I do have it trained to lvl 3. Thats the only thing I noticed everyhting else was there and worked fine.
Anyway just wanted to give an FYI on that. Great work.

Excellent spreadsheet
There seems to be some skills missing from the list. In my case they are: Multitasking, FoF Missiles and Medium energy.
If I insert a row will it muck up the spreadsheet? I'm not that good with the setting up or operation of spreadsheets but I can put the figures in when needed.

The character sheet is probably disabled because devs are working on the servers. While it is disabled we can't access it :) So autoupdate from the skillsheet wont work either.

Yep, does that for me too (still).
run time error 1004 application defined or object defined error.
using Win2k Pro & Office 2000.
I think someone said earlier in this thread that Office 2000 doesn't have xml support, so I guess that's the reason for the error.

using winxp and office 2002, I follow the instructions exactly as they are in the autoupdate.doc but nothing shows as updated. The auto updater, by my understanding, should be filling in every line of a fresh EMDv8 sheet, but instead it just refreshes itself and shows N/A on the name line and blanks everywhere else. Anyone else getting this problem? Glitch

Also...
The ships are out of date? I don't know if the data is wrong or was changed, but I know at least the cargo capacities of the Wreath and Hoarder are incorrect. I assume this means there are likely other errors as well?
If the auto updater worked this thing would just be awesome... not sure if I trust the data on ships though, since the only time I've checked it it's been off by a good 30-60%.
Impressive work though... almost ;)

I open up the macro with Microsoft Script Editor. I then located the the line where myeve was accessed and replaced the url with a simple file name of the xml file. In the EVE-XML Data part of the macro locate the string "myeve.eve-online.com" then edit that line to look like this:
<x:URLString HRef="xml2.xml"/>
Then access the character info, right click on the XML Data and save it to the same location as you keep the excel sheet. Then Simply press ctrl-G to read the file.
One thing thats bugging still is that it cant read the skill currently traning, so you have to enter that one manualy. After that you have done that all looks ok.
Hope this helps.

Hey there!
Great sheet, but I noticed 2 minor mistakes.
Presence doesn't have Empathy V as a requirement and Gallente Battleship can be learned without Space Ship Command IV, at least according to your sheet. ------------------------------------------------------- "Do you really think that's air you're breathing?" |

ok after loading my charetor i noticed there where alot of problems with the can learn yes/no in the column. i tracked it down to the skill descriptions page.
there are 7 hiden colums V,W,X,Y,Z,AA,AB.
here is a example of V65 =IF(VLOOKUP(F65,Skills!$A$13:$C$212,3,0)>='Skill Descriptions'!G51,1,0)
ok this line takes the name of the first skill needed as a prerec for this skill F65 looking this skill name up on the skills page getting you current skill lvl, then checks it to G51 and put a 1 flag if you meet the prereg in this skill. this is incorrect the line should read =IF(VLOOKUP(F65,Skills!$A$13:$C$212,3,0)>='Skill Descriptions'!G65,1,0)
so that its reading the lvl needed for this first prereg skill from the same line not another skills prereg line.
so you have to fix all the V,W,X,Y,Z,AA,AB to have the same number as the line there on to read the right skill lvl needed.
example for line 65 V65 would be F65 and G65 for the numbers in the formula. W65 would be H65 and I65 for the numbers in the formula. X65 would be J65 and K65 for the numbers in the formula. Y65 would be L65 and M65 for the numbers in the formula. Z65 would be N65 and O65 for the numbers in the formula. AA65 would be P65 and Q65 for the numbers in the formula. AB65 would be R65 and S65 for the numbers in the formula.
this needs to be fixed on all the hiding lines 3 to 201, colum V to AB.
some notes to unhide the lines to work easyer push the uper left corner of the Skill Discriptions page then excel tree commands format-->column-->unhide
later to rehide them after you fix them ctrl select V to AB and excel tree command format-->column-->hide
hope this helps you all out. great sheet i realy like it.

Very nice sheet, but it keeps spitting out wrong numbers. Not sure if I am doing something wrong here or whether I missed out something obvious.
Simple example, Mem +18, Int +17, training Instant Recall from lvl 4 to lvl 5,
in-game timer shows me 5 days 10 hours Eve skill sheet shows me 6 days 17 hours ?!
Sheet is complete empty 'cept for the attributions and having put current level of instant recall at 4.
Could someone enlighten me here how I can get eve skill sheet to correctly show 5 d, 10 hours (or a least a number close due to the rounding)?

Make sure your Learning skill is set correctly. Learning affects the training time for all skills, since it modifies all your attributes by a small percentage.

what would have been really cool but most likely difficult is if training something like mechanic or electronics ect would change the stats on the ships page like increase all the hull armors and powergrids....
that would be really usefull for people about to outfit a ship they have never flown before :p

Don't know if it's already been mentioned, but the display saying "can train skill" does not work correct for the following skills:
Molecular engineering Gallante Battleships Covert ops Daytrading
It says "Can train skill" eventhough I do not meet the requirements.

Very true. As I stated in a previous post - this sheet was designed for SKILL tracking. I have, however received a contribution from someone that is supposed to have updates for all the new ships. I'll see if I can integrate it.

came across two tiny mistakes, you might want to fix for the next version. In gunnary skills, Weapon upgrads should have 'Memory' as secondary attribute not willpower. Also in Skillset summary, the total for the trade skills should be '=SUM(C17:G17)' not the whats there, copy a pasted one column too many :P
Thanks for the great work by the way, i only started eve 2 months ago and its invaluable.

Firstly, this xls represents a considerble amount of work, so bravo, it's impressive.
Sadly though it does not seem to work properly for me, I suspect it is a me thing, rather than a sheet thing as clearly many are using it with good results.
My problem is the figures for 'next level' seem to be too high for some things, and so it indicates a skill level lower than the game shows.
I'm at work, and do not have access to the sheet, so I can't offer any specific examples, but I'm happy to provide more detail if that will help.
Has anyone else had this sort of problem ?

Great work Lachenlaud... Great tool i love it! The dynamic ore calc is very nice to have. Especially with all the new ores...
2 things though ... - its a shame that the new skills/ships for next weeks patch are not in yet. - the addition of faction ships would make it really perfect
For the rest, great job guys!

Hi,
i just want to say wow, thats a great pice of work you and the others have done there. It works for me very well.
But i made a small change to the data sheet: I deleted your formular (line c in skill tab)to calculate the skill level out of the skill points gathered in the skill.
Instead i use the skill level, which i can input in the line c to calculate the gathered skill points with this formular in line e of the skill tab: =WENN(C13=0;0;)+WENN(C13=1;250*B13)+WENN(C13=2;1415*B13)+WENN(C13=3;8000*B13)+WENN(C13=4;45255*B13)+WENN(C13=5;256000*B13)
This is not so accurate as your calculations, because it dont takes into account that you can train a skill for some time and then switch to another skill.
But i think its better if u want to simulate what happends when i first learn this skill (learning) for example and later barges.
I needed like 5 or 10 minutes to figured out if i want to train all the skills i need to get barges and barges to lev5, without focus on the learning skills, i need around 70 days. But if i focus first on the learning skills, to reach lev 4 in clarity, eidetic memory, focus and logic, which will take around 27 days the same skills which i need to get lev5 barges only took 50 days now. So the 27 days focusing on the learning skills only took me 7 days compared to the time i would have spend with only skilling for barges.
I think if i would have used your methode to input the level it would have taken a lot longer. But that are only my thoughts, maybe you will think about it.
Keep up the great work!!
Best regards
Darkgothic

Problem I have with the spreadsheet is that when I have skill points over the amount required to gain a level 5 in a skill the spreadsheet shows 1 level lower.
For example I have the learning skill at 256410 sp, max is 256000. As such I'm informed that I only have level 4 in the skill, when I have level 5.
I also have the same problem with the mechanic skill.
This problem arose when they had skill learning from usage. ie learning increased everytime you trained a skill. Nothing to see here .... move along. |

Yes the character number is the one from the eve insider character sheet URL.
Also - you may (occasionally) have to do the CTRL+G 2x in order for it to actually grab the data. (It's a cookie issue with Eve-Online)

Nothing I can do about your 'learning skill' issues. If you actually have more skill points in a skill than you are supposed to - I would petition CCP about it.
I will see if I can make a 'mod' to the sheet that will 'stamp' a 5 in there if you exceed 'max' skills - but no promises.

I've noticed that you get an error if you have any other spreadsheets open. Close all other sheets and you don't get any errors. You may need to 'Get' the info twice before it works. I've learnt a lot from this sheet and am currently working on my own one now which is mainly presentation and looks :)

Aha, got it working now; forgot to check 'save password' on the IE login box. The attributes don't update, but if you select cell J1 (with your character name in it) and drag down to copy that formula into J2-J6 (the attributes, stuck on 8) then it works perfectly ;)

Edited by: Farret on 18/03/2005 10:11:31 Ok. I used this worksheet back before they took down the character sheet on web site.
OK Sorta got it working with reading more thru this and clicking the save password although with me running 2 accounts on same puter that's a bit of a prob. Minor. But it's pulling up the wrong character name when I have the right number in for the character on the account I want, and the attributes not working. I tried to copy the formula like the previous post said and I don't see a formula when I click in J1 area with is more then just one section there. More like J-L/1-2.
Input plz

on the "EVE-XML data" sheet in j1 you should see
=HLOOKUP(I1,$I$10:$IV$11,2,0)
repeat that for cells j2 thru j6

Originally by: Dargon Starjammer ow another glitch. i have the mineing barge skill at level 5 and can fly a large barge. yet in your ship section were you list all the ships you can fly curently in game (your lacking the new trsnport ships and mabe some faction ships.) it says i can't fly them and i checked threw my skill on the sheet.
Change the content of the cells D125-D127 on the "Ships" tab by decreasing the number of "X" by 4 in each cell. IE cell D125 goes from =IF(BZ125="XXXXXXXXXXXXXX";"YES";"NO") to =IF(BZ125="XXXXXXXXXX";"YES";"NO")
And by the way: I found a missing skill: Starbase Tactical Officer in the Corporation Management group. Primary attribute: Memory Secondary attribute: Charisma Training time multiplier: X5 Required skills: Corporation Management level 2 (Primary) and Leadership level 4 (Secondary)

In an earlier version, there was a tab stating how much SP needed for next skill lvl. Its gone with the latest version. Any chance to bring it back in? ---------------------------------------------

Hello gang! Just wanted to let you all know that the Eve Master Datasheet has been updated and posted!
AUTOUPDATE should NOW be working. I've included a file called autoupdate.doc (word) that gives instructions on how to set it up.
Note to the Forum Ops: Any chance of deleting all the posts in this thread between the original and this one? It's a bit cluttered.

Oh a couple of Known Issues:
Office 2000 Professional gets a Runtime error 1004 (whatever the heck that is) when trying to use AutoUpdate. If anyone has ideas - pass 'em on. Meanwhile I'll research a possible workaround.
Also - You MUST use Internet Explorer when logging in to the Eve 'My Characters' section or the spreadsheet won't see it as being logged in.

I asked the forum mods for help with this thread to clean it up a bit.
They suggested I create a new post (which can be found here) and said they would lock this one.
So - please use the new thread for additional replies, comments, or bug reports.
