gotta feel the OPs pain, couple that with desynch, lag fights, etc... i lost a petition where my pod blew up inside my ship, inside a station... yeah let that sink in for a second. In station, then ship, no ship, and then sent to my med bay. i got a ship mail but no pod mail... how can i lose my pod with no mail? they wouldnt even give me a mail.
sometimes its your computer, most of the time its the game+lag

Edited by: Val Vympel on 03/06/2008 12:43:42 I can afford to purchase a wide variety of automobiles.
*Insert dream car here
Just because I am able to,does not mean that I SHOULD buy said dream car.
Undocking in EvE is like rolling that dream car off the dealership lot. And then due to my own stupidity(testing the engine)and poor road conditions(Oh! no black ice)I wrap the dream car around a telephone pole one mile away from the dealership.
R.I.P.-1989 V8 Ford Mustang Convertible
Lessons learned.... 1.Buy a sports car in the summer.
2.Have the car delivered and parked in the garage.(This gives you some time to wipe it with a diaper and rev the engine to impress your friends before you take it for a spin and do something stupid or are involved in a bad situation by someone else being stupid.
3.Leave it in the garage indefinetly.(Until the novelty wears off and you and your friends don't care anymore what happens)
Concerning EvE..if points #2 and #3 cannot be met...DON'T BUY THE DREAM CAR...er SHIP.
It just hurts to much...
I went to the same dealership(CCP)3 years later to buy another car and the heartless bastards(the Forum)still remembered and laughed at me.

"Faction-fit Raven with 50 million SP's," rofl. Only you would think that way. Try T1-named (maybe T2) fit Raven with 7 million SP's. Use a cheap ship to grind missions for cash, dummy, so you can write off the cost when you lose the ship. To lag, to suiciders, to whatever.
As for CCP's reimbursement policies, I doubt anything will come out of your petitioning and escalating, but it's fun to watch you try.

Didn't read the entire thread, but I gotta say your little thing about why "Eve as failed as a MMO"?
250 thousand paid accounts beg to differ, I think the real question is why have you have failed at Eve?
Oh and by the way, previous to WoW, 250k subs was HUGE, and still is in any game that actually requires intelligence to play...i.e. any game BUT WoW.

Whinings are cheap, but, guys... be honest. How many times you've been owned not by players or mobs, but by lags? Lags on entering system, lags on grid activation, lags in fleet engagements... countless cases of STUPID situations, where other MMO's have no problem at all.
Simple comparison: Lineage2, Giran town square (common trade place for one server). Anywhere from 50 to 300 chars on "grid", depends on server and time. Problem? Yes... a little. Once it is loaded, you have NO SINGLE LAG, if your PC somewhat modern (That refers to the 32-bit single-core processor, no dual-quad-core x64 monsters). Don't pleased enough by static scene? Let's go to siege. 100 against 200 ppl "small-scale" castle siege. Again, no problem, your char always under control, no problem with picking tartgets, other than your own hand problems. Remember, Lineage2 is a fantasy game on the ground surface. That means it must render not only players characters, but also landscape, buildings, trees and other rocks. That means like additional 15-30% of graphics load.
EVE. You know it all. I've been in a gang of about 40 ships max, but even this small gang have big issues. Uncloaking of all ships on a gate at once - lag spike for a minute. Landing on a grid - same spike. Jumping through gate - pray to not fall asleep. Reading about bigger engagements, I still highly curious, how can they EVER ABLE to DO ANYTHING AT ALL. Cause every other one word in them are "lag" and it's derivatives. Like "I've warped - lagged - grid loaded - lag - overview refreshed - lag - picked target - lag - target dead already - lag...." -- Thanks CCP for cu |

Edited by: Chiefs Fan on 04/06/2008 01:43:57 im not worried so much about lag, but if my isp takes a dump while im in combat or dangerous waters then im prolly gonna pay out the nose. my internet seems to flip a switch every once in a while, basically disconnects my connection just for a second, long enough to force me to log back in.. in this game i'd prolly find myself in a pod. knowing this i chose to fit my level 4 mission ship to be a tank that can at least last npc damage for several minutes.

Although you're extremely frustrated at this point, I'd give it one more try. Come back, get another ship (I'd recommend a drake to start, so that you can unlearn your bad active tank habit). Get comfortable with a passive tank setup and then go back to your nighthawk. It really shines with a passive tank; no amount of lag spikes will be able to kill it.

just a suggestion but...
If you're really lagging badly, close your client, your ship should warp off.
I've lost a few BSs to lag/and or my client locking up, so long as you have the ship insured it's not that big of a deal.

The true test of whether someone is fit for a game like Eve is how they react when the big kick the nuts inevitably comes :). Eve has no shortage of 'oh-****' moments and those moments are hell of a lot rougher than anything you'll see in another MMO. Honestly, it's one of the things that makes Eve great - when losing is impossible winning becomes meaningless.
Like I told some random noob yesterday:
1) Have a thick skin 2) Always have a backup plan 3) Never fly anything you can't deal with losing

At any rate: how come you just didn't passive tank everything? It's not a *active* Nighthawk, is it?
since he seems to have has 3x CCC on each of them, I suspect he WAS active tanking.
Rule one has always been never fly what you can't afford to lose, that's why I have a combat ship, a second one in the hangar ready to go, and multiple mining ships to recoup any losses. Oh, and that's not including all the inties, assault ships, covops, blah blah, which are more utility ships than front-line pwn-the-rats-in-the-face ships.
you'd have been better served spending that money on the aforementioned two ravens, leaving you with a spare ship.

I fly level 4 missions solo with a passive tanked Drake. I've lost a T2 fitted Drake to a mission full of warp scrambling drones/frigates. I was quite upset that I underestimated the mission, but I didn't think I deserved to have a ship reimbursed. Then I brought a friend along to tank while I repaired him with my Osprey and finished the mission.
Leaving station in a nighthawk without a wingman is the first step to humiliating failure.

I managed to lose a nighthawk in a L4. Combination of 'bah I can take this mish with the wrong hardeners and 3 BCUs fitted' with a power hit. Sucks, I know.
Disconnects are a fact of life. Desyncs are a fact of life.
Passive tanked drakes laughing at *EVERY* mission out there is also a fact of life. I use one because I often have to AFK for family emergencies. Fit a real passive tank like everyone else and the only thing that'll be a problem after a disconnect is losing your drones.

I find active tanks are better for L4s, I just fit a raven so it actively tanks cap neutral so the tank can run 24/7 and the tank is strong enough to tank the whole room, when I disconnect, desync, or just have major isp issues on my end I know I will log back in whenever and never be dead.
With a Raven you can fit a T2 setup that will actively tank any mission cap neutral as long as you use the right hardeners for the mission.

There is one very simple reason why ccp should not replace your ship. If they did then they would have to replace every single ship in eve rendering the whole danger/loss thing irelevent.
CCP cannot have anyway to detect if you client crashed or disconected due to user end lag. Therfore if while I was pvp and started to lose I yanked the cable from the wall by your reasoning I would have a clame to get my ship replaced just by lieing about lag.
CCP have set a president for not replaceing ships due to lag that is not caused by their server systems. Why should you be any different from the hundreds of other ships lost. We all pay $15 a month. Why is yours any better than mine
