First, for all those lambasting the OP for his complaint, I think it's important to note that he's not complaining about losing his ships to some aspect of the game, either PvP (gate camps, high-sec ganking, etc) or PvE (too much damage to handle) or due to lack of understanding the game mechanics; he's complaining that he lost his ship due to a failure on the part of the game to allow him control of his ship.
I disagree with all those who say that the lag and disconnect problems are not CCPs fault. I've played a number of other online games, and in my experience, while lag is an issue with all online games, lag in those other games typically results in losing a few seconds of control, except in extreme cases. EVE is the only game that routinely crashes due to lag spikes, forcing you to reload the game. Not only that, but it often does so without any obvious clue to the user (for example, at a gate camp, finding out that your client crashed ten minutes ago while still showing nothing wrong on the screen).
The fact that this occurs with undue regularity with EVE and only EVE tells me that, while the ISP may carry some fraction of the blame in generation of lag spikes, the CCP programmers have failed to account for this ... unlike the progammers of many other online games.
So yes, I see this as CCP's fault, and it's a shame the game is marred by this deficiency.

what kind of tank do you have?
shild? armor? honor? or maybe a combination of all three together? 
The only numbers I care about are 3-2-1-launch.. |

Actually he is..
The effects on a character after the client disconnects are game mechanics too.. maybe he is unlucky and has a bad ISP.. but based on his initial post.. i'm not surprised he didnt get his ship back..
CCP's "oh i didnt find anything in our logs" excuse is quite legendary, but his explanation doesnt sound like they were wrong.. this sounds unlikely to be server side..

To the OP I've found how you write your petition is as important as the petition itself. If you are hostile/angry/use foul language etc they are much less likely to help you or consider your request.
A more neutral or friendly tone can also help.
I've had 2 of 3 ships returned I lost in missions that I petitioned. (The other was not returned because I had spent the isk from insurance already).

Disconnects are YOUR fault, not CCP's fault.
And if it is a server lag problem, YOU WILL SEE PEOPLE *****ING ABOUT IT IN LOCAL. If it's just you, that's your fault......

There is no lag in Eve, and there are no random disconnects. You are all victim of a mass delusion and should seek medical attention immediately. The fact that this happens to so many is purely a coincidence.
Move along, theres nothing to see here. Situation normal. Move along, move along...

Disconnecting happens at times, lagspikes happen a lot in fleet combat.
The point is that you weren't able to tank stuff long enough to log in again, that measn that you wouldn't have survived anyway. Unless your didn't activate your tank before you warped in which would be kinda stupid since that's about as basic as it gets.
in short; losing ships sucks, losing it because you didn't really think about what you're doing is your own fault. Whining about it and pointing fingers at others on the forums is hilarious.

I skipped pretty much the rest of the thread, but to the OP:
A) the obligatory: Can I have your stuff?
B) Get a proper ISP. As alien as it may sound, in the ~6 months I've played I never ever disconnected unless my NIC or router screwed up.
Yes you read right. No disconnect due to CCP being lame at all.
From time to time ISPs screw up their peerings with other ISPs due to being capitalist swines which leads to constant disconnects as well (seen in some friend's cases where their online indicators went pretty much crazy).
C) If you're getting killed by lag spikes or disconnects that definitely don't have anything to do with your internet connection sucking, don't mission in or near Jita, Motsu, Aramachi, or whatever huge lagfest system you can imagine.
It might help if you're not on a node that's run by hamsters in reinforced mode, ya know.

Fully agreed, one of the things that makes Eve so compelling is the knowledge that everything you build up can be torn down, sometimes in an instant. Its a beautiful bitter-sweet feeling playing a game where this can happen.
In fact it really is only parts of the game where you somehow cannot lose everything in an instant, like indestructible stations, that irritate me.
But I agree with our Fiction writer of the year, if you cannot stand to lose hard earned things then find a game where your stuff is permanent like second life maybe.

Im sorry but the OP just has not learn't most important lesson of eve, which is (and has been already posted by many others), "Don't fly any ship+fittings you can't afford to replace with ease".
Thats right saving all your isk to get into your dream ship scraping the barrel and being broke is just asking to get blown up. Instead you should be making your isk using it on ships you can afford, if you go pop no big loss carry on working and improving. Then slowly you get more and more income and reserves until you can afford the bigger toys with ease.
If you quit thats your business, please people will have asked the age old "can I have your stuff", but the only person to blame is yourself because YOU chose to put all your egg's in one basket and now it bit you on the ass.

I disconnect with my night hawk and she can tank on her own for a looooooong time. Think your skills are lacking since you should easily survive to warp away.
Of course if you are active tanking a nighthawk.... DOH!

Not to pass judgment on your own claim either way, but it is pointless to get worked up about. CCP has become extremely militant about denying reimbursement claims, despite pleas for logic or mercy.
You either roll with it or quit.

This is a common complaint. It's unfortunate. I don't honestly think you can always blame lag on CCP. In the scheme of things, unless you can trace the information along the entire path, you really don't know who is to blame. If you were on the same ISP subnet with R3 last week when they were hit, you might have thought you dropped off the internet. It can be even more frustrating to lose a capital ship to lag. Billions down the tube because of lag.
However, it has been mentioned many times in this and other threads, and it applies here. When you gamble, you never play with money that you can't afford to lose. Flying a ship in combat is a lot like gambling. And you never fly a ship that you can't afford to lose.
If you hold a unix shell up to your ear, can you still hear the c: ? |

His fault or not, he flew a ship he could not afford to lose. I've been flying nighthawks for about 6 months now, I've lost 3. I admit though, I was afk missioning and when I was scrubbing the tub I forgot to go back and change targets, went back as my ship was going into the last 10% of structure and barely got my hands on the keyboard when my ship sploded. To the OP, if I give you a new drake will that help? I had to use a drake to earn back a nighthawk myself, so I know it's doable. Contact me in game and I will set you up with a drake and some t2 stuffs, BYORigs.

I would have to fall to sleep and there be no server downtime for a normal level 4 mission to kill my nighthawk.
I have never lost one in PVE

Never lost a ship? never lost a ship for a stupid reason? It's a game, it happens. A LOT of players have lost ships for stupid reasons. At least he pretty much admitted to his mistake. Chill, it wasn't your ship he lost.

What are you doing ? My nighthawk setups can tank anything, lvl 4 wise. Should be able to weather a couple lag spikes tbh.
