I'm no expert, but...
Originally by: Opertone I live in Russia, do i need a Visa (travel permission) in order to go to Iceland?
Yes, unfortunately you need one, both for getting into Iceland and for getting out of/back into Russia.
- there are no packages for my place, do i have to buy tickets and book hotel on my own? Is it possible?
Again, this would seem to be the case. Hotel is no biggie, just do your homework and book a room directly from the hotel of your choice or use a broker. AFAIK there are no direct flights between Russia and Iceland and the last time I used connecting flights I was too young to care about the details so I have no idea how that stuff works, shouldn't be much of a hassle though. I think.
- when is the right time to do it?
I'd probably start right away if I were you, getting everything in order (especially travel papers) can take a little while. Maybe start by doing some googling, visiting Wikitravel or perhaps better yet talk to an embassy or consulate, they'd better know what you need to do.
Honestly though, I'm pretty sure there are other Russians that are going or have been to fanfest that can help you out with the particulars. Or just anyone at all you know and has been abroad in recent years.

Can you make the PvP tournament start later in the day? We got DQ'd cause we were still passed out :P
There's Jita but they're doing it different from last year. Instead of reserving tables for your alliance there's some form of hourly ticketing system. I'm not sure what it's meant to achieve but I can say that Goonswarm's pretty disappointed in the setup as it's been presented. The Alliance tables were a big hit for us last year allowing goons to come and go to the various meeting rooms as they chose and still have a central location for gathering. Some goons just wanted to hang out with other goons from around the world and eat pizza and drink beer when presentations weren't going on and it was a really good time for all of us.
Essentially, for us at least, it made fanfest and was actually a huge selling point internally when we were pitching it again for the "I don't want to fly to some space-meet and sit in a conference room with sweaty nerds" demographic, which to be frank is most of us.

I agree 100%, I've just read the new way their doing it .. seems like a bag of suck, not sure I would of rally so many BOZOs to go had I know Jita was going to be like this. Clown Punchers Syndicate |

I agree with darius :( Last year the jita setup was very nice, but this year i doubt we(collective) will use it :/ At least have 10x more places to sit this year.
But hopefully collective will also be the biggest group this year

Yeah, last year as nice. This year, I doubt we will be using it at all. I'll be selling my Jita tickets for ISK at this years Fanfest. Transfers can be made in real-time at the skill changing PCs (assuming they have them). Clown Punchers Syndicate |

I ordered my FF ticket online and received my code, but it won't let me use the code to start a PvP team.
Is anyone else having a similar problem?
Where do I get some help with this?

Will Fanfest 2008 be broadcast via Eve TV as a one-off this year?
The broadcast of Fanfest 2007 allowed those of us a home to get glimpse of what happened and I enjoyed seeing what was coming in Trinity, the Q&A's, speeches/lectures, etc.

Yes.... everything is going to be very cheap compared to whre you are from! Sadly, the currency has fallen about + of it's value the last week or so
Now for my question: Will there be a schedule for FanFest up soon? I want to make plans for other activities as well, but they must be when FanFest is not

This. Oh, and this. Hard to tell what the weather will be like, pick clothing that works for -10 and +10¦C with sunshine, rain, snow, and wind (often several at once) and you'll be all set.

I've heard rumours about icelandair possibly going bankrupt? How real is this threat? I don't want to pay and end up losing my money or even worse : get stuck in iceland. (not that I would mind sharing a room with some of those girls there...)

The current Iceland situation is a concern for me aswell. My flights and hotel are booked and non refundable.I know CCP do not run or own Icelandair, but it would be good to get a bit of re-assurance. |

For those of us with interest in things financial, some comment or info on the situation as it appears to someone in Iceland would be helpful. The country appears to be essentially bankrupt, and the ability of Icelandic firms to do business internationally is certainly suspect.
Sorry if off topic but there really is some relevance. |

Cold and rainy it was last year. The sun rises about 9am and falls about 5pm iirc. |

For a lot of us travelling to the fanefest these are kind of uncertain times. It would be very useful if CCP can assist in providing some feedback.
1. I can not purchase any icelandic currency due to the crisis. 2. Some papers are saying that foreign visitors will not be able to use Credit Cards. This for me is quite concerning as it creates a lot of uncertainty and risk in travelling to Iceland at the momemnt, CCP could alleviate this uncertainty by letting us know what to expect.
Lastly I appreciate that CCP as a company is probably trying to get a handle on the situation as this will affect your finances, I wish you the best of luck with getting things in order.

i do hope you will be accepting euros pretty much everywhere cuse there is no way to get isk atm and as said above most credit card companies won't let you use their cards for obvious reasons.
a CCP / insider statement would really help here
hope your country does get well soonÖ

I agree that CCP should step up here and maybe do some research on what we should do, when coming to Iceland. Talk to the local banks, maybe?
I was thinking of investing travellers checks, euro's or even dollars for payment.
CCP could also introduce their in-game isk as a currency on FanFest. Print a lot of CCP-ISK, make it same value as... euro, dollar or anything, so we can exchange currency at the site. Maybe make a real currency-booth at the FanFest, so we can party on down-town!

As has already been mentioned, during the ongoing economic turmoil, people travelling to Iceland for the fanfest are concerned about the messages we are seeing regarding our inability to buy ISK and the validity of credit cards in Iceland.
Can CCP please try to find out the facts and post them here for all of us. Would appreciate any information you can provide. Wishing CCP and all of Iceland the best and hope you can all survive this financial nightmare.

I wrote my bank and asked some of the qustions raised in this thread, so I thought I'd share their advice:
Buy Euros before you leave home. When you get to Iceland, exchange to ISK as you need to. This way you will be able to buy ISK and you will not have to worry about a creditcard that has been blocked. When you get back to the airport, simply exchange the remaining ISK you may have to Euros again and deposit them in your bank when you get home. This is the overall best option with the least amount of hassle and loss of money. Yes, there may be exchange fees, but it's a hek of a lot better than to not have any ISK at all
With that said, the situation MIGHT change in the next 3 weeks, so this may all be redundant by the time FanFest starts. But if it isn't, I'll buy some Euro in the airport before flying to Iceland and do the exchange in Keflavik airport...

The CSM spoke to CCP about this issue today during our meeting. They assured us that they are financially fine. One can assume that is because their major points of income are in USD, Euros and Stirling as opposed to the Isk which is swimming in the gutter atm. They've asked us to communicate to everyone that everything is hunky dorey on their end, that nothing will interfere with fanfest and it's going to be a blast, and we may see some official word from them in the near future we can hope.
