Here is a news article about Icelandair Group from yesterday. You might not have to worry about Icelandair going under. At least not before Fanfest :)
Linkage
"Icelandair Group has released an unscheduled, unaudited summary of its financial position. The move is intended to reassure investors ahead of the reopening of IcelandÆs stock exchange later this week.
The companyÆs summary of the first eight months of the year shows what many would consider to be a surprisingly positive state of affairs.
The total turnover of the Icelandair Group is ISK 72 billion, an increase of 68 percent from the same time last year. Earnings before tax are up 43 percent on last year as well. The companyÆs cash position is ISK 6.7 billion."
---------
I also think/hope exchanging your EUR or $ in Iceland at the Fanfest will be solved. A lot of things happened at once last week and the now the dust has been setting so I would think these currency issues will be fixed asap. These things will probably be clearer in the next few days.

Google maps seems to be quite a bit off on the placing of the Reykjavik hotels. Is the grand hotel Reykjavik nearby or can sombody provide a list of hotels within walking distance.
I used loftleydir last year and that was a bit too far, had to take a cab.
Also: the fanfest page seems down atm : https://fanfest.eve-online.com/

Park Inn and Hilton Reykjavik Nordica are within 5 minutes walk from FanFest, I will be staying at Park Inn again as I liked them last year. Hilton is more popular though (and a bit more expensive).

Originally by: Sergent Colon As has already been mentioned, during the ongoing economic turmoil, people travelling to Iceland for the fanfest are concerned about the messages we are seeing regarding our inability to buy ISK and the validity of credit cards in Iceland.
Can CCP please try to find out the facts and post them here for all of us. Would appreciate any information you can provide. Wishing CCP and all of Iceland the best and hope you can all survive this financial nightmare.
CCP has posted responses to my concerns in the thread: http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=802437&page=1#2 Thank you kindly CCP Only 16 days until I fly

Edited by: Imperius Blackheart on 27/10/2008 06:58:40 A little more than a week away and I'd love some advice over currency. Basically you can't buy Icelandic Krona here in the UK atm because of the crash, so whats the best option for me to being money with me? Dollars/Euros/Stirling? And how will I get local currency after I arrive? The last offical statement was that Krona would likely be available well before Fanfest, but considering last year I had to order my currency in advance of 3 days I'm only left with 3 days to get it sorted.
Any advice will be appreciated, Thanks.

Icelanders usually don¦t use cash to buy stuff. Everybody has a debit or credit card. So I think you should be ok if you bring a debit or credit card to the island. Visa and mastercard are accepted everywhere. Think american express is also. Not an expert on which cards are excepted but like I said, I can¦t remember when I used cash to buy stuff in Iceland.... having said that, I also can¦t seem to remember when I last went to a strip club...

I'm hoping booze is going to be reasonably cheap given the situation with the Kronor. Might be worth buying some on the way out! |

Imperius, Amrican express kiosk at Glasgow airport are still doing krona call the heatheow one to find if they are. Quote something like americanexpressfx4u (see Amex webby) and u get it commision free. If not landisbank (? Sp) show a tourist rate of 190ish so you will be able to get at airport on arrival the telephone number for the airoport bank kiosk is on the kef airport webby if you want to call in advance to check rate. I'm bring cash or we will get hammered with commision charges using cards

Is it just me or did the prices on flights just go through the roof? Eve online site says the fanfest package from the netherlands is 419 EUR, when you follow the link and choose the cheapest hotel it comes up with 739 EUR
Just a slight difference ...

Edited by: Walter Model on 30/10/2008 19:41:26 Hello CCP and fellow eve players.
I¦m Icelandic and Fan Fest ticket price have raised up around 110% from last year ticket price
So yes, I¦m not going this year.. it¦s way too expensive
Less people are going this year because of economic situation in the world, specially in Iceland. I know that fan fest is far away to be sold out this year. Have CCP any plans to lower the ticket price or whatever to boost the ticket sale for fan fest?

The city of Reykjavik has its issues concerning handicap accessibility. I can't recall if they had dropped sidewalk corners everywhere, but I -think- they did. The Nordica hotel however has truly handicap accessible rooms, being roll-in showers and plenty of grab bars and floorspace. I wouldn't go to Iceland alone though, if you're in a wheelchair as having someone with you that you can trust to help out in navigating the environment is a necessity.

I can't exchange currency, where I am. I read on the blog that you can exchange to ISK in Iceland from the various currency...
But from what I can find there are at least two rates ISK is valued for the time being. What rate should I expect to exchange at in Iceland?
One rate is the 'old' value from before the crisis started, and the other is about half that from after the crisis started... the difference is too signinficant not to be clear on

Iceland based players will be able to purchase at the door for 5250 ISK. Iceland based players who already purchased a ticket online will receive a voucher to the Fanfest store (value not set yet).
Other foreign players who want to purchase at the door can, but we are only taking Icelandic Krona, so it will be sold at the current exchange rate (USD : ISK is currently about 118-120, which means a ticket at the door for a non-Icelander is 9000 ISK).
This offer is for native Icelanders and also Iceland based players, with proof of residency like a basic visa or ID card.

If your using outlook/express then the email usually goes into the deleted emails folder and not directly deleting. you should also try your mail server as your email client on your pc ususlly has a setting to keep a copy on the server for X number of days
also check the eve store for purchase history ?
