that looks sweet!
perhaps those extra graphics could be turned off or downgraded for lower end computers...
i hope that the player owned station stuff takes priority over this though ( I prefer content to more eye candy)
very, very nice CCP. I just hope most of it comes out before june/july

hehe, I'm just being realistic :)
Other people keep asking me why I don't think CCP learned a lesson with the failure of Castor. The list of Castor content still not in the game is my proof that they haven't.

I have a somewhat decent system, the main problem I have with lag is during battles, involving 40 or more ships.

"Q3" is an industry buzzword for reporters. they probably get extra cash everytime they use it. so, keep that in mind...

"Q3" isnt an buzzword, it means 'Third Quarter' (there are four financial quarters in the year for buisness).
January - April is the 1st Quarter April - July is the 2nd Quarter July - October is the 3rd Quarter October - January is the 4th Quarter
Since they are reporting that this should be ready by the 3rd Quarter (or Q3) we should expect to see Shiva at the beginning of July at the earliest.
Taken from the May 29th 2003 Devchat at EveGate . <Muaddid> Q: When will sentry gun and station and similar construction pods be introduced on the market? <Hellmar> we have various player owned entities already implemented. Sentry guns, power/shield generators, field repair mini-stations, mobile refineries. We are still working out the last tidbits of how they can be over taken, what is the penalty of having a sentry gun kill a n00b etc. and we have been a bit busy with plugging the holes that people have found.I would say that you'd start to see these items on the market in about 2-3 weeks, very expensive to begin with |

Got to agree with the whiners on one point. Up untill yesterday it was 'Some time in May'. now its between July - September.
I was really looking forward to the new stations, but I don't mind waiting another few months to get them. I have patience (Unlike some of you ). It means they can test things fully before introducing them to 10,000+ people. --------

Is anyone else picking up from their 'expansion' wording about SHiva that we will have to buy it? Most games have an expansion after this long but I will be -DAMNED- if I agree with Shiva being an expansion. Half of this stuff was promised at RELEASE! Player structures have been 'around the corner' for months now. Now I like all the projected content of Shiva, but if we have to pay 40/50 dollars for it I and probably many others will be mega ****ed.

are you dumb or something?
for any mmorpg if the patch is a HUGE patch it will be called an expansion because of all the stuff its adding
shiva is a FREE EXPANSION all you have to pay for is the monthly fee in order to play EVE
Dark Age of Camelot has a new FREE expansion coming out called New Frontiers and a RETAIL expansion called Catacombs...learn the difference CCP has said in the past that they will not charge people for expansions unless its a huuuuge expansion like landing on planets (remember those leaked shots anyone?) an expansion like that would be like 200+mb

Just wanna say .
Release info to this site , not another site. Release to players to inspire them.
I feel a little anoyed that I have to read third party sites, with all the advertising and stuff.
A dev blog with the same or better info is required.
Thanks

Moved from another thread that was locked :
Well I didn't know Shiva would be this massive.....which leads me to believe that we will have problems, I'm not saying this to be a doomsayer it's just natural big patch = multiple problems
And considering CCP's history with big patches...you do the thinking, ok?
But I'm also excited at all that new stuff they're adding, that better not be all vaporware that they're advertising there or be added later DURING Shiva, CCP has a tendency to say that thing will come with this and that patch not in the next patch a better development process I agree but misleading and unfair to the customer.
But all in all I'm excited, Shiva seems to be much more massive than I expected and more content is better right? I feel the impending something but not doom exactly, but Shiva really is the completion of Tech 2, Castor was disappointing and only introduced T2 but didn't get it in fully and completely.
But like Josh said here before this is all months away....I think we can forget May like they said sometime and June is not likely...

Im a bit down hearted about the Q3 release date aswell but consider two things:
I) This release date was given by a third-party site, i wouldn't take it too seriously until we get confirmation from the devs (Next CSM, perhaps)
II) I was under the impression that the devs were going to patch up to Shiva with a number of smaller patches, instead of the one big patch we had for Castor, to help iron out bugs. This might mean that we still will see the first step-up patch by the end of May, with a series of patching until July.

yeah, but they are like in Lineage 2 (shivers), "free expansion packs", so lets keep calling em expansion packs, and when outsiders ask who are gonna buy em all, you can say, they are free!! "wooooow" they say okok me quiet now =) thx God i gotta change my sig..

Edited by: Asharee Intrefer on 15/05/2004 00:38:18 Just a few days ago there was a forum reply from Papa Smurf stating that the internal deadline for shiva rollout was 26th or something this month.
I think there's still one possibility:
We will get the Shiva patch within a few weeks as planned. A bit later, sometime in Q3, there will be a boxed Shiva version of Eve in stores, which could be what the article is about.

Take a look at my signature, and you have CCP's "confirmation" credibility right there, dont think thats all I have too, if you eve-mail me I'll send you a word document that covers everything missing from the first CSM chat until september 2003 (Eve-I was supposed to publish it, they even asked for help in research, but they changed their mind, and I havent updated it).

Edited by: Demangel on 15/05/2004 01:24:02 I agree with an Ealier poster when they expressed concerns about the way it may get released...
I do NOT want to see all of the new content trickle in like all other patches have done. But I don't want to see it all bugged to hell and back either. So IF CCP releases at least the majority of the content in one patch, but takes an extra 3-4 months to release to ensure fewer bugs, then you will not hear any complaints from me... even if it is bugged up to hell and back (so long as no permanent damage is done, like lost characters or assets ETC heheh).
I would have to say that some of the news I found the most exciting have the least to do with new "toys" and more to do with new environments, and what sound like a LOT more interactive environmental content.
For example here are my favs:
Super massive asteroid fields: Not because of the greater ore content this implies, but the fact that it implies something more stimulating that a semi circular collection of easy access asteroids... It might be a profitable occupation to be a prospector if this is done correctly, scouting deep into vast asteroid fields in search of the best ore concentrations, and the occasional rare ore asteroid. Imagine spending an hour scouting out an asteroid field in .4 space, finaly locating a few well sized ark roids in a distant corner of the belt?
I want asteroid belts to be places you can get lost in... I want to see asteroid belts that remind me of the belt in the movie Star wars: The Empire Strikes Back. THAT WOULD ROCK LITERALLY!
System-wide fields: This conjurs up many questions, but many fantasies as well, will we be able to hide in vast nebulas?
New planetary effects: Probably just EYE candy, but it sounds hella cool!
Better intra-system navigation: If this even remotely means what I think it means, I will be in heaven. But really what does this mean? Just better graphics for the system map? Or does it mean a skill/module/free ability to warp to places that arn't listed? IE empty space? hidden objects? This would be wonderful for explorers if it's don't properly... I hate it when even supposedly "Hidden" things like Hidden serpentis outposts, are displayed plain as day for all the world to see... "DON'T LOOK HERE CONCORD! THIS BEACON IS JUST A JOKE!"
Fleet command: This sounds VERY sexy! Especialy the bit about objectives!
Dungeons: From what I can see, they will be a worthy addition, I just hope CCP means it when they say they will be intended for everyone, because it would REALLY **** me off if only high level megacorp raids are possible... I'd hate to have HAVE to have a BS and a big corp behind me to try one... Not saying I should be able to solo it nescessarily... But you get the picture I think.
All in All I have a sneaking suspicion that we will only get the stations, and maybe a UI change durring the first patch... IT fits CCP's style of cardboard carrot on a stick to entice us into sticking around to see the "new" stuff... then make us work for the chance to see the stuff by waiting another 6 months to a year for it to trickle onto TQ...
People who began EVE when EVE was first released should know exactly what I'm talking about. Especialy since a great deal of this content we are all looking foreward too, was things we where promised or otherwise implied by CCP to be ready by release back durring the beta days...
Galaxion > If you drove a car shaped like a thorax women would call you Demangel > Dude... I would call.. Demangel > wait that sounded g@y I bet. Galaxion > Just a bit.

note that it says......

Edited by: Leitari on 15/05/2004 01:35:02 Nice listings. But I do have to remind you that missing Tech 2 items such as Warp disruptors, warp scramblers, ecm jammers and webifiers are still missing while the Tech 2 Backup arrays (minmatar/amarr) and Warp core stabilizers are still missing from the game. I understand that they do not appear into the game until someone starts researching Amarr/minmatar tech but this is getting ridicoulus.
This creates a big unbalance in the fighting scenarios.
I do believe Shiva will bring many older players back to the game. And probably keep me in the game as well for a while
Keep up the good work.

"All in all, the game appears to be on track for its Q3 release this year, and should make quite a splash in the MMORPG market as it already has an immediate audience in its loyal bands of EVE players."
mmk, either the writer did a confusing job, or this states that there will be a boxed version availible for buying?? If so, which i hope due to my next point, then we might, even should, see Shiva before Q3, if they'r gonna mass-produce it and sell it like a friggen piece of tasty ass meat!!!!
