Ok I'm still new to the game and don't know roids respawning habbits that well, but usually they come back after downtime and some seem to come back randomly duting server ontime, but over the last few days there seems to be less and less roids coming back, a few systems I go mine have no omber left at all, and I stipped 24k of a belt in renynt he other day and nothing has respawned back there either.
anyone else notice anything unusual?

On Sunday evening I mined a couple of crokite roids down to just over 1000 units remaining. Checked them again after downtime on the Monday and they both still had exactly the same ore remaining. Checked them again today after downtime and they are still sitting at exactly the same size, just over 1000 units remaining.
I thought that if you left some ore in them and didn't pop them, they would start to slowly regrow. Anyone know what sort of time frame we are talking about for regrowth?

I've also noticed this, some really big gaps in what were once large belts. Maybe a ruse to make the ore/minerals markets more lucrative? |

the system that my corp used to hang out in "several weeks ago" was pretty striped thanks to a big corp operation and the fact it only had 4 belts. there are only a few people the go to that system now and its still stripped. i get up there about 1-2 a day and usually stop in the belts for a little npc snack, never see anyone mine but i dont see anything new to mine either. i sorta wonder if this is some way to clear out the roid fields for the "shiva" system wide fields. _______________________________________________

Only a few of us mine, but those that do have cans setup for corp use. I went to one yesterday and noticed that the belts were not only VERY tiny, they were completely devoid of the best ore there (Omber in this case, still Veld, Plag & Scor). I figured a megacorp hoovered through, but maybe something else...?

Since the hardware upgrades of last week i have yet to see an omber rock respawn in my usual mining systems, areas which have never been omber free since i started mining there over a month ago. There definately seems to be a slowdown of the respawn.

Sometime ago a patch changed respawn behaviour. From there on roids stopped respawning right after dt and instead made the respawn rate more random over time. This to prevent the europeans to clean up before us could log on
Then the issue of ore type respawn. Belts can olny hold a fixed quantity of ore. What happens usualy is ppl stripping belts of the highest ore and neglect the lower ones. The ignored ore can keep on growing and eventualy will hold the full quantity of ore available for that particular belt.
I have comfirmed reports that when mining the bigger Veld roids, smaller high ore will/can respawn. Another thing to keep in mind is to let at least 1 of the high end ore rocks untouched, this will facilitate respawning of this ore type.

Many sectors are NOT respawning. This problem began last week on wednesday after the hardware upgrade. A few sectors have had a respawn, but it's small and very sporadic. many sectors are being stripped, even of veldspar/scordite/pyroxeres/plagioclase and even they are not respawning. This is a genuine problem and needs to be addressed soon, otherwise this game will lose new and lower lvl players. How can they make money? How can they mine in sectors designed for high lvl players? They don't have the skills, ships, shields or weaponry required to survive. Granted this is to the advantage of high lvl players, as the market prices increase for minerals that now only they can mine, minerals that are normally refined from omber and kernite. This will create an imbalance and make the game.. undesirable.

Edited by: Scorpyn on 20/05/2004 15:48:21 Since I'm not a miner, I should probably not make a comment here, but I feel like I have to somehow...
Theory 1 : As far as I understand it, the security status changes made some low sec systems with good ore turn into 0.5. In 0.5, there is not supposed to be that much of good ore (this is what I believe, not based on any fact whatsoever). When the ore in those systems is gone, it will not respawn because the system is not supposed to have that kind of ore. This does not appear to explain why 0.0 ore is not returning, if we don't take into account the fact that 0.0 is also divided into "invisible" security zones - some areas are in fact -1, but it will show up as 0 because that's how it look in the eyes of concord. If you hunt npc:s, you will see the difference by how difficult the spawns are.
Theory 2 : Everything respawns in the unreachable 0.0 areas (jove + whatever the other big area is).
Theory 3 : CCP wants ppl to explore and move around more or something.
Theory 4 : Something is broken in the code
Theory 5 : Someone hacked the game servers and made all high end ore respawn in his home system, where he is happily afk-mining in an Iteron Mark V with a lot of nice expanders.
Theory 6 : The amount of low-end ore makes it impossible for high-end ore to regrow. Solution : Eat veldspar.

try mine away thos veld rocks that is as big as a space station and your field will grow back.. I cleared all veld rocks in a belt and mined a big hole in it after that. The next day the hole was filled up with new roid. tested this in 2 fields...

As a test we mined a field down to one lone scordite rock and left that, in the 3 days since we did that not a single thing has respawned in that field. I was told by a GM to log the lack of respawns as a Bug report, I would encourage everyone to do the same.

Will do that when I get back online, as I also said, as a test I did stripmine completly a field of roids (where no omber there as it had been mine a few days ago), and still 2 DT's after that it had not respawn.
I have been in fields where the belts have been respawning every 2 days... suppose that can be that it does not happen to all fields but...
Well anyway good point, going to report it as a bug.

AFAIK the resource system in eve is for the most part closed system that is things need to get destroyed before more stuff respawns. Im not sure if thats still true now that, but that was the impression that people were given way back when. And I dont believe this is that bad at least not as bad as before when there was no bistot or ark and roids were only spawnining in baby amounts, btw this lasted for MONTHS. I wouldnt get too panicked just wait till some big battles happen in 0.0 space and people loose ships and you see those pretty roids respawn.
Anyways the moral of the story is go blow some people up =P

So what you say is that, there is too much equipment on the market (ships, weapons etc...) and that hinders the asteroidfields to spawn ???

From what i understand its not just that its any ore and minerals that are already mined. But thats prolly just a small precentage of the total resources avaible in the universe. The ore is also distributed randomly i think so that if you mine ore in system x it could be respawning in another system somwhere else. I think thats what happened when we had the gigantic roid problem back in the day. Anyways there should be more info on how ore is distrubited back in one of the old CSM chats. I would give it a week before you start panicing that ore is not respwaning

It could be a Bug - but it could be a complex calculation to mimic what happens when we deplete (over harvest) certain valuable natural resources here on Earth.
Could we not be understanding the total dynamic here?
It could be another layer toward/in the game where, while it is an adversarial game, there is an element of the system not working (times getting tough for everyone - like an economic depression) unless some things are made to be, and agreed upon as, common goals for most players?

I can confirm that ore is not respawning in at least two systems. A corp mate of mine started complaining a few days ago that 'his' belt hadn't respawned in about 4 days, and I'm basically thinking, 'oh it probably will do tommorow'. Then tommorow comes and the same happens, etc etc. I haven't mined for a while (bout 5 days) but I wen't back to 'my' belt to mine some more ore and none of it had respawned. I had mined about 5 of the ***HUGE*** veld roids and about 10 LARGE veld roids. So that blows the 'mine veld and it will come back' theory out the window. There is now an abundance of plagioclase in 'my' belt (since I mined the least of this).
Anyway, cut a long story short... My corp mate's belt has not respawned. My belt has not respawned. I have been to another belt where there are only 2 omber roids left.
ORE IS NOT RESPAWNING IN THE SYSTEM I MINE IN. (I am not wrong, but I am not denying there may be a logical reason for this as opposed to a bug).

Something needs to be done! Either the DEVs should tell us if this is intentional or just a pure mistake.

Ok this is what I have noticed so far. Two belts in the same system. Belt 1) Completly striped dry, nothing at all remained. Result- Two days later the field has spawned again and the rock though tiny are growing. Belt 2) Striped of everything but a few Veld rocks. Result- Now there are a few HUGE veld rocks there nothing else. Wierd but true. I have no idea exactly how many Veld rocks were left but now the belt has 12 BIG veld rocks there. I'll try and strip it and see what happens.

Going to leave some better ore in other belts to see if they respawn.

As an active miner, I have noticed in my area in the last 3 weeks or so that the fields are not respawning at all. Even after more then 10 days, the only thing left is a few small Veld roids. In fact, after some scouting it seems that nearly the entire region is devoid of rocks now.
My personal Opinion is that CCP is allowing the roid fields to be cleaned out totally in prepration for the Shiva patch where I assume they will be making great changes to the ore distrubution in the universe.
Of course this is cutting seriously into my construction routine and organizing MO's has become a nightmare. We now need to haul ore 4-10 jumps to find a system that has anything in an amount worth mining.
A DEV comment would be nice on this subject. I mean if it is borked and thier is a reason I would not be upset, just be nice to know.

As far as I know, nope nothing have changed....
I also think this is a preperation for Shiva... but if I have understood right, Shiva will not be out in a few months!!!! and that means ALOT of asteroidfields will be empty far far long before the patch come out.
I also is missing some DEV's comment on this... the closest thing I have come over is under Mining forum on eve-i.com There this subject also have come up.

If you compare the rate in witch EVE is growing with the respawningrate , NO. Asteroid belts takes to long to respawn. Remember that there are several big corporations that send fleets of Apocs/Armas and Megas to strippmine the belts in the higher sec systems. This is a factor that CCP did not reconcider i belive, they underestimated the capacity of EVEs players. I¦ve been around in EVE since BETA and my first Corp cleaned out Rairomon system in less then a week.. not one roid were left behind before we went to the next system.
There will always be someway that you can take huge ships and completely stripp belts in Empire , and this is something CCP will have to adjust to. Last time i visited the n00bsystems there were more secure cans then there were roids, anything wrong with that !?.

they were probably nobs can though, I mean when you can fill up the largest secure can in a few minutes by yourself they become worthless and you can do that it a thorax.

Our corps noticed it aswell, seems our normal systems (0.4 + 0.3) arent respawning. I'm not sure if they arent respawning at all, but if they are its damn slow ------------------------------------------

CCP or mods please read this thread and comment.
It might not be a golden innovative tought, but asteroids and mining are damn important in Eve

That is my understanding of how the belts work. A belt has a maxium mass, and roids grow by a %age. Thus larger roids eat up more of the remaining growth.
To prove this, find a belt that is "broken", pop all the Veldspar that is the size of Texas, and then see of the other roids grow. |

They don't... I have tried that and for like a week... NOTHING happend... again.. Nothing ...
This is clearly something wrong here, either that GM's are aware of this but gives a **** about it and then it is on purpose... or they are working on it as we speak but either way CCP really really should let us know what happens.
If this is a attempt to get miners out in lower sec... then forget it, miners don't PvP and would much rater just not play.

Asteroids are definitely not respawning. There are now entire systems in Empire space that are almost devoid of roids.
Some response from CCP on this is crucial I feel - we need to know if this is intentional or not. This is a key part of the game and for it to suddenly change without warning or any kind of comment from CCP is very poor comunity liaison I feel.

Is there any need for a skilled MCSE with SQL experience for these kinds of jobs? I will work cheap:rumors, hints, and revealing questions, minimum of twice a week.

Ooooh! Please share with us the second you find anything out regarding this issue!
Our entire corp has since moved operations some 17 jumps away to find systems with belts worth mining again!

I mine everything in a belt, no "cherry-picking", and nothing comes back. If this was a planned move, it was very poorly planned. I enjoy mining, I don't enjoy spending half my gametime searching through 4 or 5 systems trying to find a roid field with something... anything at all in it.
It's broken! Please fix it...
The game is supposed to be fun, it's not fun searching for a rock to mine.

Edited by: sableye on 30/05/2004 01:38:05 all the belts I visit have now respawned, I can even see omber and jaspet again :) but its too early for me to be completly sure that its working again, the only respawn I've seen was after downtime on friday.
Kinda makes you wonder how long it would take all of eve's belt's to be empty if nothing respawned.

Yeah i think they just kicked the roid pimp and made all belts spawn because we got 4 huge veldspars in one of our belts and tons of tiny little ones though the stripped belts around it have all shown signs of beutiful regrowth .
