I miss reading lots of the "good on ya!" posts in C&P. There's less thoughtful posts and more "ur a dumb nub" going on here. That said, I've seen several threads in recent days where there has been some old C&P flavor. Like this one, for example.
As EvE evolves, so should piracy. If what you were doing becomes less viable, change your tack. I think that's where the real beauty of EvE lies. The fact that what worked six months ago doesn't work so well now really keeps things fresh.

Don't know about priacy but Piracy is alive and kicking, it's just different now.
I like when older pirates wax nostalgic about how it used to be and how the new pirates aren't really pirates. Things change, Piracy changes and with that so do Pirates.

Yep since i started the age of the myrm has gone, being told constantly now that no one goes round low sec alone - i'd put it down to more people playing but really i wouldnt know - gate camps are stiil in many of the same systems and also at high sec ones more and more often - i see wrecks and cans all over the place, usually haulers but shuttles and Atrons (my atron :( to be precise) are getting ganked for valuables.
Maybe CCP should start a police corp like the FW militias entitling any within to treat low security status pilots like war targets? That might just make things worse.....

Piracy is indeed different from back in the day, But that's not all bad. It's gotten harder, thanks a lot for that. Now we don't have to share the vacuum with random wannabe riff-raff. I do miss the golden days at times (remember when all the mods we're inside in the circle and you had to press a button to switch between High-med-low? :D)

You might want to fix your spelling. I honestly read "Has privacy died out?" I quickly found out, of course, but you still might want to work on that. Although yes, there seems to be less of the "swapping stories" sort of thing.

Edited by: Father Weebles on 13/07/2008 06:56:38 When I first joined Eve over 2 years ago I moved to Placid. There was a couple corps that were infamous for piracy. Fast forward a year, this time low sec right outside Geminate there was another group of pirates that claimed the area. Eventually, these pirates were kicked out by 00 pvp corps.
I think that as the population of Eve has gone up pirates have not been able to keep up, meaning there are less and less of them, and more and more alliance blobs. Also, as alliances have grown and moved their empire HQ's into lowsec, the small but elite pvp corps have followed them right into previous pirate territory. Due to the availability of 'free' targets right next door, pvp corps and alliance blobs go after pirates with little problem. It is impossible for these pirates to make a living being blown up and camped in stations all day, so they move to different regions that are known to be more ghetto (space with little value to alliances). I'm sure there are pirate corps that still live around Placid because it is right next to Syndicate, where no major alliance calls home. I suppose their numbers are more condensed in these certain regions of space.

Are there still any well known pirate corps? Do people still do the rove around and ransom ships, camp gates for isk?
Yeah, piracy has died out sadly to say. Amamake and other previous pirate hubs are now devoid of the filthy slime...(aka, lowsec is free, come and enjoy)

I've heard of lots of "Oh ****"-moments from pirates when they've been doing their business as usual and FW-blob jumps in, and local spikes to 104 (and then a few seconds later their overviews clutter up and the outlaws end up in their home stations cause who can save their pods to that lag).

Nope. All gates into low sec are now clear of all camps. Carebears should feel free to bring officer fit CNRs and Nightmare's into said low sec as well as unscouted freighters and haulers. Cloaks and MWDs are no longer required.
There are no pirates.
what he said.
I think the problem is that piracy tends to be quite seasonable, priates have to evolve when new mechanics come into EVE< and the ones who stay behind have a hard time to make money anymore.
I do have to say though that a lot of losec regions seem to be dropping in activity and profitable targets.
over the last days two fleets disptched for a nice old roam in losec, one went towards goinard form Oulley, and the a roam yesterday in the placid region.
the Goinard area was pretty dead until one stage we actiallly had a 50 man GC sitting on the other side, we were 24, so a nice small gang. we jumped through and wanted to engage them and they ran away, it was really surprising, just goign by the numbers they shoudl of had the upper hand, kind of put it down to the Blinky red thing when 24 ships appear on the overview, flashy like a disco. and this was apparently also a FW hotspot, but no encounter.
Placid was weird too, about 6 months ago there were corps in that area that server our arses to us on a plate, but this time? nothing, we got hell of a lot of kills within a short time, but compared to a few months back, it was dead. NOrmally full of faction ships and good PvPers but nothing in this case.
also a lot of the Pirate corps have probably suffered the most after the Big alliances, in terms of people leaving them to 'try' FW. so many of the known Pirate alliances have crumbled to a small number, and I know this from how wel lthe recruitment has been goign for our alliance, sometimes gettign 10 to 12 people form a single corp applying at the same time, and staying there.
Pirates also don't stay in the same region for long anymore, like in the days, you woudl have a known pirate corp in one area, and they woudl be the underdogs, causing pain for eveyone there.
Thhese days, they don't do that either.
ah, where are the days, when a CNR woudl come through the gates at least three times a day to be removed from existence
We try to please in Placid region, but we are a rather small corp, and cant really fight against 20+ man blob. Well we try, just for the lolz. And if can be really fun beeing chased by FW blobs. But as we cant muster big numbers and standad tactic in eve is bait and nberblob for ganks, you cant blame people to not engage obvius baits....

Not at all. How can piracy be dead ? Blobs, bad, but present targets, coupled with the usual loners, mission runners, traders, etc. makes it all better.

When you know where to look, piracy is still very much alive in Eve.
Sadly most of the mainstream stuff seen now is people craptalking eachother, sitting in gatecamps podding rookies and bigging themselves up with alts in an attempt to create some form of reputation.
I remember a time when this forum was full of genuinely funny stories, when people wrote piracy guides for rookie pirates and when people traded punches for real reasons.
I'm glad I decided to distance myself somewhat from this forum, it's done nothing more than turn into the lowsec version of COAD.
Bring back the glory days of piracy with Jexter and Fist, Shamis Orzoz, Drosssk, Fairlane, Zap, TBone, Siddy, Ikvar, Trey Azagthoth Tank and Daakkon along with m0o, The Jokers, Frick and Snigg, to be honest. What's around now isn't a patch on the character those guys had, and the stories they created.

Quite the opposite.
With warp to 15km - you would sit at 15km and smartbomb - follow the landed target - and get two of three or four salvos off.
As well as being able to kill frigates/inties (as you can now on warp to zero) you could kill haulers with ease, cruisers, recons etc
Dont forget this was before the HP boost as well - so ships had a good 33% less hitpoints.

The problem isn't a lack of pirates, it's the forum full of Garmon-tards that now pollute the area.

There are enough eve vids that i have seen that say this but, leave your gang's and start pvping solo and you will find piracy. Its is a chance tho since you might run into a big group but, if you smart you might beable to beat them and out manover them. Find a ship you like equip it and go out there and see was new.

Piracy is completely dead. It has become so extremely safe for people to mine and rat in lowsec areas now like Mara and Aurohunen. Well, Ive just reactivated recently with a few other people to pirate the same way we did years ago and tbh Im having just as much fun now as I did before. Maybe thats just because of the people Im with or the fact I dont care about losing ships/equipment.....
In all fairness this forum has become a joke and isnt really worth posting on anymore; I am only reading it because I'm bored at work. So if you are actually looking for evidence of piracey on the forums I dont know many that I hunt with or talk to that bother to post here anymore.
