So let me get this straight.
60 day card of World of Warcraft is $30 USD. It has over 10 million active accounts. 60 day code for Eve Online is $35 USD. It has(read had) 300 thousand active accounts. We pay $5 more because it is a "Premium" product. So Eve is Premium over World of Warcraft.....debateable.
Price of codes has gone up. Many online retailers of the codes are back-ordered or never got the new codes. Supply and demand means the codes that are available to buy for isk are inflated. CCP stands behind marketing's decision.
Summer means people playing less, in-game economy suffers. Less market activity means less isk available to buy timecodes. Now people close extra active accounts they cannot/will not pay for with isk. Number of active accounts take a nosedive. In-game economy suffers further. Gameplay suffers for low income players find a harder time. Now credit card customers decide to go back to WoW because it has pleanty of people to play with and costs less.
All of this means a dramatic drop in active accounts over the next 4 to 6 months. CCP takes the loss, continues to stand behind marketing, and tries to make it work with a shrinking player base.
Perhaps the smaller player base will make the game even more "premium".
GG CCP consider my accounts closed. No you can't have my stuff.

I should imagine 99.9999999999999999999999999999999% of eve players wouldn't even contemplate playing a shite game like wow even if it was free.

And on topic:
How many people pay by the GTC method and by the "still-at-same-price-creditcard" method, and of the crowd (me included) that pays for GTC's how many are quitting (and no doubt taking their 20 accounts EACH with them!)? -------

Right.
MMORPGs have a social aspect to them, and its a large one for Joe Average. You can close your eyes to it or not, it's your thing but there is a definate "haves and have-nots" within the eve community. Add that to a large portion of the playerbase being anti-social anyway and you may see how an already complex game as Eve can become less friendly to newer players who do not have the connections you may have. How much of the "fun" you are having can you see a newer or less successful player having? Joe Average player plays the game that is more fun.
I will be happy to reply to any other posts what have a bit of worth to them.

Edited by: Niccolado Starwalker on 13/07/2008 19:15:03 Have you read my sig quote?
EVE is the only game out there on the market that still grows after 5 whole years!! SWG celebrated their 5 years too, and they have been crashing for a long time now!
Go back to WoW. or maybe go to Conan! Ofcource the latter game dont have anything to offer besides a beutiful graphic if you have the lastest videocard that is!
Me, I am going to stay with EVE! Its now more then ever my home, and no games who have recently launch or will launch seems to be even coming close to compete with EVE. Ironlially enough the only game I can THINK of will start competing with EVE will be World of Darkness when it gets launched! Ofcource made by CCP! :D I dunno what it is about yet, but being CCP it has to be great!
So please, find yourself a different game if a few dollars difference have this kind of impact on your life!

Expansion for World of Warcraft is US$40-50....
Expansion for Eve is FREEEEEEE!!!!!
We normally get 2 "free" expansions a year, so if you take that "extra" $5/month for a year ($60/yr extra), then divide it by those two free expansions, it works out to $30 an expansion. Hmmmm seems like it is cheaper to play eve in the long run.
I for one welcome the lose of you to this server, we have enough whiner alts as it is. --

Very nice. So what does this have to do with the cost of GTCs?
Oh, and the steady increase of ≡v≡ players seems to suggest that you're quite wrong: new players apparently have a lot of fun, even in the shadow of (supposedly) more successful old-timers.

Personally I use the credit card method. Time will tell the effect of the time card change. While I freely admit my forcast may be wrong I think it is valid. I welcome any thoughtfull debate on it. However time will tell.

The GOP must have really screwed over the American economy in a big way if five dollars over a two month period is something to get upset about.

If EVE being unfriendly was ever going to hinder its progress, it would never got off the ground in the first place. The social aspect is just another reason why people won't want to leave even if the price increase does annoy them. All the "fun" I personally have in the game can be had by practically brand new players if they so wish. People who play WoW and EVE are looking for two different things. So you're argument that they will play the game that is more fun is exactly why a certain group of people will keep coming to EVE regardless of its price. -

Yep. A solid drop it is too, from 43000 in the middle of a cold winter with an expansion pack just released, to 39000 in the middle of the summer (right now at this very moment btw!!) without an expansionpack just being released!

I think some of the high school kids, like the OP, might choose to play a game that's $2.50 cheaper per month. That's a good thing for EVE btw!

Yeah, because people who pay for two or more accounts in the same game and people who go for the cheapest option are the same demographic.

To a large degree of the actual people playing I will agree with you. And the ISK for code price will certainly level out once people start closing those alt accounts. Make the distinction please that the drop in numbers I refer to is a drop in active accounts not a drop of the people playing Eve. CCP makes thier money from active accounts. I never said EVE IS DEAD or any such nonsense. Again, I said the number of active accounts will deminish, and I think to a negative effect to the game for new to mid players via less market activity and to a degree less new to mis people to play with.
