Honestly, you want to know what the key difference is between people like that and you guys?
They're doing something about the situation. Even if you don't believe in the power of prayer, or even that God exists... they're out there doing something.
What are you doing? Sitting back making snide comments and quietly accepting the government giving you Prostate cancer exams. GFG.

Point A to point B is further in the US(ofcourse it depends where you live in europe).
And its not that its expensive, its that the price is going up so quickly.

What does going to a station and praying to god have to do with doing something about the situation?

Really?
so, you're saying that 150 miles in America is further than 150 miles in Europe? that driving from my home to a meeting in Geneva is 950 miles, while Driving from NYC to Boston (1000) is actually twice as far or something?
ooh, of course, I forgot. French miles are only 1/25th of a US mile, and the Euro Kilometer actually only has 475american metres to it....
hell, I forgot to remember that the US distorted space-time like that....
Honestly. That is possibly the most stupid statement I have ever read on the internet. Really. You're there at #1 one on the thick list. You have just ascended to giddy, oxygen-deprived heights of stupidity that leave me struggling to find sarcasm capable of expressing my despair at this one.

I think what he was trying to get across was the "typical" drive, wherever it may be to, by people in the states is much farther then that of the people in Europe. The other problem he was hinting at was that the infrastructure and public transportation in the States is not set up in a way to allow for easy and mass use by the people in the states. Most people live many miles outside of the city with few options to get into the city, to the store, to the daycare, etc, except for the usage of personal gas guzzlers.
Well at least that is what I think he was trying to get across and I hope I made sense.

I wouldn't say that "Point A to point B is further in the US(of course it depends where you live in europe)." is failing reading comprehension. It implies that everything if further away. which is tripe. and I say that having spent time in the US too. yes, California to NYC is a long distance. But the idea that everything is further away is nonsense unless you live in a cabin in the middle of no-where. In which case, choosing to buy an SUV that does 5 MPG serves you right for having to pay more for fuel. and if you live in NYC, and work in NYC, then you have no need to be driving a Hummer.
And for the record, I came from the highlands of scotland... and know plenty of people who lived long distances from the "city". they bought efficient cars, not fuel guzzling behemoths.
(I Agree on the idea thay prayer is daft, at least.)

Amen brother. I got lucky and found a semi-decent place 2 miles from where I work and sold my car and now either take the bus when I am tired or just take a walk. And it helps that I live in walking distance of the rail. **** the oil companies.
ps, praying for lesser oil prices.......LOL. Oh my how I despise most people

What??? cali and NYC is very close to everything, try walking to work in panama city.
And yes scotland is pretty spread out, theres a reason I included the"depending on where you live"part, most of europe and britain is pretty close together and if not, they use motorcycles or small cars.
That lead me to my second point which is america isnt ready for a gas price snap.

Start complaining when it reaches 20 dollars a gallon as it is here and the UK may begin to feel sorry for you.
Edit: I live in Scotland too. I travelled 600 miles to move here and spent 50 pounds on fuel. HOW? I used a diesel car that does 70 miles to the gallon instead of a petrol car that does less than 5. -- There's a simple difference between kinky and perverted. American infrastructure was built on and around cheap oil.
Cheap oil is supposed to be something our government always thought they could provide us.
Ooops!
I guess we now need to annex Canada and take their tar sands.

Some of us don't but the UK is full of singularities who are too self aware to think as a big group. Nobody wants to be fighting against the gov't for fear of what the gov't will do to them. They don't think like a big group and realise that the gov't can't do it to everyone. Short version: Too much 'I' and not enough 'WE'.

I'm British and I hate the "we pay more in the UK so stop your whining" argument. Because a Zimbabwean could walk in here and use the same argument against every player from the west. (I know the idea of a Zimbabwean playing this is laugahble but this is just a hypothetical situation).
