Edited by: Xevan Templar on 25/07/2008 01:21:53 I just whatched this Characters & customizations and I have to say it's realy amazing for what is to come.
Especially when considering, game style wise, character interaction and space station environments are 'secondary' to piloting ships. Secondary quoted because as the way it goes it beats any MMO game that I have played sofar (WOW, LOTRO, AOC), and those are games that have 3D character interaction as a main play-system.
If this goes on the way it goes, hanging out in stations is gonna be a 'mini'-game initself. I can see myself sitting down in some fancy cafT while brouwsing the market. Or what to think of mayor meetings before some space conflict.
Thumbs up for the EVE def team

Next most frequently asked question: Will attributes affect anything in ambulation? IE: Will a high cha change a character's appearance? Or will there be ambulation-related skills that benefit from said cha?
I'm wondering that aswell..

Yeah, I'm trying to post up the questions that I saw most asked (but not answered), in the order of frequency.
But, honestly, just by swinging by at all Eris has already rocked my socks. The amount of work and detail going into Ambulation is shocking, and I can't imagine how hectic her schedule must be. She's defiantly my new favorite dev. ---------------- Ambulation Answers

Just watched the eve-fanfest video. http://link.brightcove.com/services/player/bcpid1274008831?bclid=1302124741&bctid=1302124567
Nice!
Tho a question. What is stopping someone (that have allot of ISK) to buy up slots fast on shops etc. Block these slots, by paying rent but not rly using them. This to lower concurrence and controle the market, just becouse they can invest isk when it is released.
Sure, ppl with power should be able to, but somewhere it is needed to be controlled so even new players have a chance.

More than likely, they'll use the same mechanic corp offices use - if all slots in a station are taken, the rent increases on a monthly basis. If that person is willing to keep paying an ever-increasing rent, they've bought that privilege of locking down that station.
And, just like with offices, it's easy enough to just move to another station - or, at worse, a jump or two away, and rent there.
It'll probably be an issue for the first month or so, when every roleplayer decides to open their own "bar" - but after a month of everyone sitting alone in said personal bar it should stabilize, I imagine. ---------------- Ambulation Answers

Originally by: Ruze Maybe what they mean is that the player's character won't be able to get up and dance, but you'll still find some NPC's shaking their stuff, if that's the kind of joint your at.
I wonder if you'll be able to hire static NPC's like dancers and bartenders (because a podpilot can't sit behind the bar 24/7, you know))? And will stations have restrictions on what type of businesses can be put up there? I'm imagining some Gallente punk setting up a strip club right in the middle of the Amarr systems Emperor Family Academy. I mean, would the station have rules? I'm sure Matari don't want some slave-oriented business in their stations or that kind of thing.
So far I've seen mention of selling alcohol, tobacco, clothing, operating video games and card games, even being able to make a shop where you change the features of a character for a fee.
I'd love to see staged fights that players could bet on. I'd like to see the mind game from the chronicles. Possibly would like some kind of betting arena for pod races (actual pods, not some star wars junk). You could even have slaver hound fights. I mean, c'mon, you'll let an Amarrian have slaves, why not let us be just that much more evil in the eyes of everyone and fight dogs, too, eh?
that is exactly what i was thinking, another blow to the Axis of Evil, the Caldari and Amarr empires, when i leave FW, this will by my last **** you to them

"You can polish the frozen corpses of your enemies...." - it does not say whether we could put them on display. Just polishing the darn thing, well, its OK, in private, but, what if I want to use them as decorations for a pub? So they can be seen by all, floating or frozen in their little anguished and squishy positions inside the jars or kryo-tubes or whatever the hell CCP wants to call em, them are PICKLING JARS!
Oh, and I have couple of frozen corpses of my friends, and well, they are just mementoes.

Edited by: Ruze on 26/07/2008 23:00:26 Currently they are saying that the stations we walk around in will be in a different set of servers than the stations we dock at, so while you'll be able to move to your ship or move into the station, you can't spy out the window on that gank fleet waiting to kill you. This will also mean that your not using that star systems resources when your out and about. Ambulation won't cause lag with fleets and fly throughs.
I'm betting (no confirmation that I've seen), that you won't be in that systems 'local' anymore, either.
Also, all they've mentioned (the devs, that is) is walking on stations. Nothing about planetside or colony encounters.

when you mention colony, it reminded me about those stations with huge biosphere domes which have grass and trees in etc, wonder if we'll be able to walk into those? it will be kind-of like being on a planet.

No seeing out into "real" space at all, unfortunately. They've said there are technical reasons this will be impossible. As to release dates - early articles said 2008, later articles stopped giving a date. Since there's only one expansion left for 2008 (In Dec), if things didn't get pushed back - it'll be then.
Originally by: ZephyrLexx will we be able to walk around on habitable planets and moons?
Not yet, but they've specifically said they're just trying to release the simple ambulation (Which is a huge enough project by itself, given the detail and complexity they're including) this expansion, with plans to expand and add new functionality to it later. ---------------- Ambulation Answers

I have no doubt there will be windows, it's just that you will not see the situation as it is outside the station back on TQ. It would simply be to complicated or cost intensive to pull off.

I threw something together thinking I'd change it later (how foolish!) before realizing that would cost a cool $10, which I am too greedy to spend.
