Viqer Fell Minmatar Trinity Nova Trinity Nova Alliance	Posted - 2008.07.27 20:01:00 - [1] Trinity Nova has a long standing rule that even in 0.0 it's pilots must behave in an exemplary manner and uphold the reputation of the corporation and alliance. I am sorry to have to say that today the pilot Kilmena has let us down and brought the name of TNT and those of NOIR and SHRIKE into disrepute. Firstly he ransomned a pilot which is flatly against our corp rules and secondly and of more concern he then failed to honour the ransom once it was paid and continued to destroy the pilots ship and pod. Trinity Nova's reputation is built upon trust and we do not tolerate individual pilots risking that trust through their own actions and greed. Kilmena has therefore been removed from TNT and we disavow any responsibility for his future actions. Recompense has been offered by TNT to the pilot concerned.

I felt it was easier to say the matter had been dealt with than have to wait until some guy came to have a go. b)I have no idea whether the pilot would behave or do more silly things prior to losing his TNT ticker. I didn't want him associated with our name should he choose to do so. That is all.

Ransoming is not inherently bad and we make no pretense that it is so. The problem we have as TNT is that we believe that our word should mean something. If we say something then you can hold us to it. Therefore ransoming is useless to us, as if we allowed it, then it would mean allowing targets we had been paid to kill to go free and thus betraying our clients trust. If we allow it and encourage pilots to then betray the ransomee and take his money then blow him up well that would get us a reputation for being untrustworthy rapidly. If people wish to believe there is some sort of moral superiority or high ground to be claimed for being a liar then that is their prerogative. We choose to stay true to our word.

The whole situation makes much more sense in light of the above. If you're on the job, I can see how it would be frowned upon to take a bribe/ransom from someone you're being paid to kill. And while taking their money and then killing them (essentially, getting paid twice) is not the worst idea I've ever heard (assuming the idiots actually pay you), a mercenary corp/alliance makes its name on its reputation, which is worth more than any battlefield ransom.
