You aren't limited beyond the rules in the blog - ie, T1 only. You can do what you like within that.
Though killing and podding your opponents then coming back in mining fittings won't be much good if they come back in PvP fittings, unless you're *really* good at dodging gunfire in a Tormentor :)
Quote: And why bring super characters? limit it to peoples existing skills I say >:D
We want it to be a reflection of your skill at pvp, not your skillpoints on the character sheet; also, we want everyone at fanfest to have the chance to compete equally, new and old players alike.

This is a bit strange, but change is always good.
One of the biggest problems with tournaments so far is that all teams end up fielding similar setups by the end.
Therefore, would it not be a good idea to change the ships involved.
IE: Round 1) 4 frigs + 1 cruiser Round 2) 2 frigs + 2 destroyers + 2 cruisers Round 3) 2 frigs + 2 cruisers + 1 bc ...
Or at least vary it in some way, so that we don't all end up flying virtually the same setup when we reach the final (assuming we don't encounter sentry drones)

Is the rorqual piloted?
Can it use it's tractor beams to bring in cans?
I'm guessing not, that it's just a drop off point, is that true?

Very intriguing.
No hauler though ? Not much point in jetcan mining then.
Would it be some kind of deadspace area ? Otherwise , it's trivial to gangwarp to the arkonor roid. Bookmarks can also be used to short warp to the rorqual and back.

More like boring tournament, right? T1 frigates are slow, the combat arena is 180km. To travel from the ark to your Rorqual will probably take 1 full minute (omg so much fun lolololol) It sounds like it will be a lot of caracal/ewar spam, warping out when hostiles get near and boring moving/mining.
You also say that the objects are 20km away from each other and then the picture shows they are 30km away from each other, which is it?
Without knowing the warpin/warpout rules you can't really formulate how to play this (including the use of WCS) Obviously you setup a 150km spot, BM the ark and warp in, mine, align out, warp out, warp to rorq, etc etc. Since you can warp out whenever you want I don't forsee a whole lot of combat taking place. I mean even if you do blow up your enemy, they are back with a minute or two.
You displayed the point scheme in a misleading way. Let me elaborate for the non-miners: Veldspar = 1 pt = 800 units mined in 2 minutes = 800 pts Gneiss = 100 pts = 16 units mined in 2 minutes = 1600 pts Ark = 500 pts = 5 units mined in 2 minutes = 2500 pts
Using unbonused/unskilled Miner I mining for 2 mins for 80m3.
No impressed with this idea so far, maybe more people will post and that will change but I don't see where the excitement will be. In every other tournament I have had to skip 5-8 minutes of boring footage each battle and I don't doubt this will be much different. 4 T1 frigates and 1 T1 cruiser with T1 mods, that just SCREAMS epic eve gameplay...... --

more seriously could ccp make it possible to overheat mining lasers for this upcoming event? last I checked they couldn't overheat.
also.... boosters? implants? exotic dancers? (every pvp tournament ship should have 1 in hold) cloaks?
lastly I predict very heavy use of the caldari ships such as caracal, osprey, blackbird.

So if your ship dies, you are free to run back to the station and get a new ship. Therefore, the fastest way to win is to blow up the other players ships and then warp scramble the pods, if you can have all of your ships but one do this to all of their ships, you win by default.
Thoughts?

The basic idea is fine but some of the rules make it less attractive:
- Ship types, modules, technology restrictions - make it a point based system like in Alliance tournament, people want to watch COOL stuff blow up not shitty t1 frigates and cruisers with crappy fitting .....
Replacement of ships - where is the commitment? Eve is dark and evil place, ships don't pop up from somebody's ass. Each team should put their ISK on the line, let them have some backup ships (but limited number, lets say 2x more than team size) but don't make it a competition about who can warp to the station faster.....

This equals:
3 units of Arkonor pr. cycle = 1500 points 12 units of Gneiss pr. cycle = 1200 points 625 units of Veldspar pr. cycle = 625 points
EDIT: If you fly the all-time favorite Bantam frigate you would get:
7 units of Arkonor pr. cycle = 3500 points 25 units of Gneiss pr. cycle = 2500 points 1250 units of Veldspar pr. cycle = 1250 points

No, think of it as a huge, cool looking secure container. It's there to drop off ore to, nothing more.
i was hoping for it to be piloted by one of the members in the team. this would have allowed for some interesting tactics.
i think this "pvp" tournament will be very interesting, it's a little crazy but will be fun to see how it goes.

The Vexor lacks flexibility. It would probably be the Arbitrator that can fight and mine.

But this year, we decided to add a little twist - read all about it in CCP Claw's newest dev blog, The Eve Fanfest 2008 PvP Tournament!
Official rules and FAQ coming Soon(tm), but we'd love your prelimenary feedback and will answer questions as possible!
First thing I did was check the date for a first of april joke but I do reckon this might be an "interesting" change for the tourney.

Will there be a Concord presence in the tournament area?
IE: If I fit out a Thorax with a speed fit + med T1 smarties and my smarty hits a roid, do I get Concordokkened?
I would hope not, it would be horribly Un-fun to have a PVP tournament decided by NPC's.

I think this is a great idea. It allows for so many layers of stratagy, in that your fighting over a resource. It opens up huge possibilities in running interferance, theft, or even flat out denial of resources.
Who knows, if it works maybe the next Alliance Tourny can be more than a simple shoot em up. Something like this, but less of the mining :p (Maybe area control like in FW? )

It depends, have you reached a level of spiritual transcendence that will allow you to project your physical self to Reykjavik? If so, then you could play without actually being at fanfest :)
But seriously, yep, the tourney is run at fanfest on a special server, so you do have to be there to play.

You should setup a special server instance for something like this all the time. |

We want it to be a reflection of your skill at pvp, not your skillpoints on the character sheet; also, we want everyone at fanfest to have the chance to compete equally, new and old players alike.
OK, so just want to clear something up....If I can't afford to fly to fan fest I can't participate in this?
pleas say I'm wrong and I can play....got some grate ideas.

Only problem I see is podding: will you keep all the level 5 skills? Or do you have to upgrade your clone to that super-duper expensive max sp-clone?
Otherwise: GREAT!!!
Well if you get podded you will first lose outpost construction 5 and the the 4 different titan skills etc. It will take A LOT of poddings before you lose a skill that will actually matter for this competition. ---------------------------------------- A Guide to Scan Probing in Revelations |

When is the autumn alliance PvP tournament going ahead? So far the amount of information about it has been...... severely lacking....

Why on earth would I want to participate in something like a mining contest unless you are planning to have thieves and can flippers in it? It will lack the realness of the much beloved thieves of ccp. You cannot have a contest without your thieves. Count me out. :) |

When will the masses of us paying eve'ers be able to be in a tournament that doesnt involve travelling several thousand miles and when will we have a 'real' pvp tournament like the previous years with full eve tv coverage and jolly goings on !
