CaldariCitizen90874	Posted - 2008.09.02 20:07:00 - [1] Anyone ever wondered or wished the game was rendered using a DirectX10/10.1 for things like explosions and particles and some HDR and Global Illumination. Just asking because i like to play my games to the max lol. c'mon look at the explosions the now i thing they look pretty damn sweet but DX10 would make it just plain sexy

They did at some point experiment with fancy stuff back in beta, but never got them in or took them out later. A shame, because it really doesnt match atm. Even for DX8.0 the effects are crap.

Some things are absolutely beautiful, others look like someone took dog shit and smeared it on my screen... Pixely dogs hit... As far as DX10 goes, not just yet. Still to buggy and widely unsupported. Massive performance drops when rendering the exact same things as DX9, etc. Needs work, needs time. Not like Eve is really pressing the limits of 9 as it is.

Jane Fatale	Posted - 2008.09.02 20:25:00 - [19] If you want to spend hours, days, weeks getting the damn thing to work right... Vista's an excellent (pretty) operating system... I did, I don't regret it. Would have been nice if it worked out of the box though. And of course there's the thing with the fail reverse compatibility. But then again, they warned you of that. (SS2 still works with a little tinkering, I'm happy.)
niroku Gallente KIA Corp	Posted - 2008.09.02 20:25:00 - [20] windows vista (x86 and x64) is the smartest and most reliable operating system i have ever used . and trust me, i need a stable platform . people moan about the additional system resources that vista seems to require but if you have them on a decent enough platform, you won't ever feel like vista is slowing you down . i never have, can't say the same for xp or previous . having said, it is a shame that this thread deteriorated so quickly into vista bashing than a decent conversation about what additional effects that people would like to see in eve... i hope that turns around before the thread is locked for its irrelevancy / flaming .

EvE explosions ported over to Dx10 are still grabage. I've seen BEAUTIFUL explosions with Dx9. Ugly explosions are EvE's doing, not DX. <3 Trebor

I think CCP were planning a DX10 version of the game, but it seems they've put it on hold for now while they do other things. They still need to release the rest of the graphics update for the various random objects in space, the backgrounds and the planets/moons etc.

Let me comment Vista cant downgrade because it is a brand new OS. Brand new = old crap doesnt play nice. The reason everyone hates Vista is because Vista won't play well with legacy hardware and legacy software. YOU: "ZOMG my digital cam drivers wont install! Vista is garbage!"
