But if there ever IS a cyber-bullying lawsuit that drags CCP into court, and CCP didn't take action here, that WILL be used to prove that CCP ignored previous events, or that CCP is "soft" on cyber-bullies.
Like it or not, there are laws against it in a few states already, you don't see an eventual cause of action against CCP? I bet CCP does.
As a paralegal, I bet Alex has already done the math here. Just a matter of timing now. There are no laws that can do anything against CCP. This may come as a shock, but there doesn't have to be a law passed against something to file a lawsuit over something. All you need is a damaged plaintiff, like a victim who attempted suicide for example, and a good argument for comparative negligence. CCP doing nothing about this would help that argument quite a bit.
Pay attention ******. The potential plaintiff doesn't give two *****. |

Am I gonna have to quote it again? I'm gonna have to quote it again... sigh. Ok, once more from the top.
The Mittani wrote:There's no excuse for what I did - while some might try to use my inebriation as a mitigating factor, I put myself in that compromised mental state, and the guilt of that is entirely mine.
I'm not sure which part of that people aren't understanding. He's not using the fact that he was drunk as an excuse. Did it complicate things? Yes. But it doesn't make him any less responsible and he acknowledges that in his apology post (which I am now almost certain most people haven't actually bothered to read). |

Is it hardly surprising that a convention that features alcohol would contribute to people acting unwisely?
The fact is that the Mittani was inebriated at the point where he made his speech in front of hundreds of people.
Is it hardly surprising that he may have spoken some unwise words, given a little too much information away?
Given that the EVE convention has, in the past, featured short movies of devs flying spaceships made out of beer bottles,
is it surprising that anyone attending not be in full control of their faculties?
He has made an apology, he has been embarrassed. That is a healthy situation. One where a person has made a mistake and can recognize it. Anyone in a leadership position, in the spotlight, day after day, will make mistakes. We cannot remove a leader every time they make a mistake, we would have no-one left to lead.
The Mittani got a huge number of votes, he does his job well, he does hold CCP to account.
I would like to see him tone down the drinking, or leave it till the end of the convention.
I think that is a fair request that we can make.
Asking him to resign is not a reasonable request given his year round work.
Xutech of the KUGU community. The problem is that this is a video game with rules that apply to the populace. People shouldn't be concerned with whether or not he steps down, they should be wondering why he isn't banned yet. Yeah, we make mistakes, and in the realm of this game, when you break the ToS, you should be held accountable. It doesn't matter who he is or what he did for the game. Is CCP partially at fault for the alcohol/ect.? Yes, and they should man up as well. At least Mittani apologized, where is CCP's statement? |

Once Mittani issued a public apology and indicated that he was absolutely NOT in favor of harassing The Wiz (formally rescinding his previous stupid comment), and considering that no harassment took place in the meantime that would absolve Mittani from any legal issues.
CCP regularly bans anyone making any form of a direct death threat IRL if a petition is filed, absolving them of any legal wrongdoing or potential lawsuit.
As much as you'd like to blow this up into a huge drama, there is little chance of that. When I check troll in the dictionary, it has a photo shopped picture of you standing somewhere in the vicinity of a point.

I bought the gun, I went to his house and waited, then when he walked through the door - I shot his ass.
But it's ok, I apologised afterwards and told them I was drunk - for those 7 days.
Yeah doesn't really add up does it ?
So when is the new chairman due to be chosen ?

It was hinted at a while ago, but it kind of died, so I just wanted to bring it back to what page 59-60ish?
Where were you people when the alliance panel first finished airing? Where were you when CCP replayed the panel? Where were you when the CSM was announced?
I mean really come on, lets put down our pitch forks and clue in here, CCP has had plenty of time to respond to this, first by not re-airing the panel, and then again at the CSM announcement.
The more I read here, the more I see *cyber* bulling in reverse, in a mob so to speak, so here you all are, pitch forking against the very thing you claim to be against.
Not that I am shocked, it's game, and you will do what ever you feel will get you to the end results you think you want.
