As a paralegal, I bet Alex has already done the math here. Just a matter of timing now. The grieving and trolling are part of the game, and CCP discloses in the EULA that it is. The minute you start playing on this game, you agree to all sorts of briefing and general asshattery. Deal with it. There are no laws that can do anything against CCP. I always find the ESRB sticker saying 'online interactions are not rated' as slightly humorous when applied to this whole scenario.
Except that that's b*llocks, 'griefing' is defined, is against the rules, and is clearly what happened here. Most players who called for this extreme level of griefing (calling for a several thousand player harassment attack on an already 'distressed' player) would find themselves outright banned. And I'm having a hard time seeing why Mittens should get special treatment. I also think that anyone who followed Mitten's request and EVEmailed or otherwise harassed this player should given the exact same punishments.
Edit: I'm really trying hard to have patience and wait for CCP's verdict and the opinion of the other CSMs. I don't think it's very helpful to call for his head at this point. But the Goon trolling keeps reminding me that he's the one who wants to be seen as the biggest douchebag in EVE Online. And EVE Online could live with a few less of those. |

I hope CCP has the foresight to see this is their opportunity to reset the standard and show the playerbase this **** is not on. It's also not just one man's juvenile actions but a culmination of the wider Eve culture's degradation that we've come to this point. I mean, again, that Alliance Panel - what the **** CCP. Reel your audience in, you're embarrassing yourselves and the rest of us.
He is in the process of resigning his chair, if he can get anyone to accept it under these circumstances.
I will agree with you on one point, I don't really see much point to the Alliance Panel... at least not how it is currently being handled. Now if it was a good natured question and answer period for alliance leaders, or a venue for alliances leaders to have a direct public dialogue with CCP devs, it would have a point.
Drunken alliance histories and war stories... not so much. When I check troll in the dictionary, it has a photo shopped picture of you standing somewhere in the vicinity of a point.

The EVE convention gives people a limited amount of time to meet everyone they know, socialize and discuss topics.
Is it hardly surprising that a convention that features alcohol would contribute to people acting unwisely?
The fact is that the Mittani was inebriated at the point where he made his speech in front of hundreds of people.
Is it hardly surprising that he may have spoken some unwise words, given a little too much information away?
Given that the EVE convention has, in the past, featured short movies of devs flying spaceships made out of beer bottles,
is it surprising that anyone attending not be in full control of their faculties?
He has made an apology, he has been embarrassed. That is a healthy situation. One where a person has made a mistake and can recognize it. Anyone in a leadership position, in the spotlight, day after day, will make mistakes. We cannot remove a leader every time they make a mistake, we would have no-one left to lead.
The Mittani got a huge number of votes, he does his job well, he does hold CCP to account.
I would like to see him tone down the drinking, or leave it till the end of the convention.
I think that is a fair request that we can make.
Asking him to resign is not a reasonable request given his year round work.

This may come as a shock, but there doesn't have to be a law passed against something to file a lawsuit over something. All you need is a damaged plaintiff, like a victim who attempted suicide for example, and a good argument for comparative negligence. CCP doing nothing about this would help that argument quite a bit. http://eveprincessbride.wordpress.com/ |

An apology was made. A nice gesture made in the form of ISK. This is what anyone would, and should do
Sometimes though, an apology does not cut it. Heart felt or not... I guess we will never know.. Mainly due to the rod this guy has made for his own back over the past years acting the way he does and projecting the persona he has. Be it in forums, in game or even on camera. Arrogant, Self indulged, Egotistical, Cruel and Immature. Bearing that in mind, it is purely understandable why people in this forum are dubious as to the sincerity of the "Apology"
Plainly put, he has made mistake, Him and no-one else. Such a grave mistake in fact, that the only logical and just response, is to resign from the CSM entirely with immediate effect.
By choosing to stay he shows no respect or consideration for CCP themselves or indeed this community. If such a choice were made i could only surmise that it would undoubtedly force CCP's hand in the matter and the termination of his role be enforced.
You're a big boy now Mittens, Time to put on those big boy pants and do what a man's gotta do....
