So me and a few corp mates were talking about the new power of 2 offer, they mentioned that it was 49.95 US dollers for 6 months which seemed like an awesome deal to get an alt.
I decided to check my emails to check it out in more detail, upon inspection of my email I noticed that the price was 49.95 Euros not dollers.
I ran a currency conversion (both into English pounds as I'm English) and it turns out that us European players are paying 11.30 more English pounds (19.88 US Dollers) then US players.
This is not fare and should be addressed, why should we pay almost $70 when you pay $49?

because it's relative to the local market economy, not relative to each other.
this argument has been put forward over and over (most recently and vocally when the GTC prices changed) but it's not about what the US pays vs the UK, it's about what the market in each country will bear.
how much is a computer game now in the UK? (haven't lived there in 15 years) 50 quid?
in the US it's $50-$60, because essentially, your pound buys you there what a dollar buys you here. it's not up to CCP to regulate international economies or balance what players around the world pay, relative to each other.

i don't mean this to sound harsh, but it's not about what YOU'LL accept, it's about what the local MARKET will accept.

Actually, the gap in difference between what the yankees pay and we europeans pays have in the last weeks been closed in. So the difference aint that large anymore.
The fact is: CCP dont set the dollar rate... OR the Euro rate!
And: US yankees pay US dollah While: Eurpeans pay European dollah, better known as EURO
CCP can affect a lot of things ingame, but honestly, they cant influence the cash exchange rates..
Oh, did I mentioned this have been mentioned like fiftly trillion times before on this forum??

I lived in UK till just a little while back, actually lived there for over 6 years, before I came back home to USA, and when I wanted to buy a bottle of Poweraid I would pay 99p for it, when I want to buy the same exact bottle of Poweaid here in the USA, I pay 99 Cents. Guess what, living in UK, and EU in general is allot more expensive than living in the USA. (There are many reasons for it, which we wont get into, but as an educated person, you should already know most of them).
Where a British national would be making 35k GBP a year, it would translate roughly into $70k US, which is quite good these days, for USA one would think, but not quite the same in UK I would imagine, since, as mentioned above, the cost of living in the UK, and EU is much higher than it is in NJ for example, one of the most "expensive" US states.
In other words it is unfair how global economy works, I understand, but the fact is, it will continue working this way, whether we "accept" it or not.

Edited by: Kobushi on 11/09/2008 07:51:44 Actually a typical minimal wage american pays a higher % of his monthly wage then a european minimal wage worker(assuming a normal full week schedule of 40 hours in US and 37.5 in eurozone)
USA Minimal wage: 1050$ months. 49.95$= 4.76% his monthly wage
GB Minimal wage: 956.80 pounds(about 1200euro) 49.95 euro= 4.16%
France Minimal wage: 1.321 euro. 49.95 euro= 3.78%
Netherlands Minimal wage: 1.317 euro. 49.95 euro= 3.79%
So a typical burger flipping teenager in the eurozone is having it cheaper in the eurozone when accounting for the average full time week minimal wage. It gets even worst when comparing how many hours is needed to raise the said 49.95 in local currency
US: 49.95/6.55 = 7.62 hours worked. GB: 49.95/8.00 = 6.24 hours worked. France: 49.95/8.80 = 5.67 hours worked.
When you compare apples with apples and not oranges or rocks or the next door poodle then you see those apples are actually pretty good.
P.S.: minimal wage and "full time" hours were taken from official national government websites and are as up to date as possible for someone not living in the eurozone or the US.

eve battleships 125$/80 in UK
same with board game coming out.
we only make 10$/hour, you make 15$ an hour, they **** us over, and thankfully CCP don't increase the price because we can't afford it. If they incease the price of our sub (they would never lower it for you they would just increase it for us) about 30-40% of the playerbase would leave and CCP would be in the hole.

I understand your point, however allow me to bring it a little more subtle. The average American is just like you and I. It's the ****ed up politicians and Bush government that turns the USA, or already has, into a police state.
They have used fear, and still use fear (fear created by the government itself) as a method to get all those patriot acts running. I'm pretty much convinced every town or village is just as safe when it comes to the average citizen, as in my country.
The Bush government however wants the people to think it's a jungle and they need 'protection', hence Bush is actually saying: 'Marshal law is good'. Heaven help the people of the USA.
I just realise though I can't discuss politics on the EVE forums

No, it would be more like 20-30 quid depending on the quality of the game.
Other MMORPG's in the UK cost around 8-9 GBP per month, making EVE online the most expensive i have seen.
and taking into account mimimum wage is crap. The reason things are cheaper in America is because you rip off your own working class, and the people in less economically developed countries. So don't bullshit to us about how you actually pay more.

This may be a new concept to some game developers but we have a unique thing called "exchange rates" this determines the value difference between currencies of different nations.
I think EA is still slow on the uptake that exchange rates exist.

I love these threads :) it gives me the opportunity to "brag" about living in Denmark and paying a whole ****ing lot more than any of you can ever imagine :P
I'm 19, I make about 2000 quid a month give or take, and I pay 37% tax of that, on top I pay another 8% for some other stuff :) and to make it all better we pay 25% VAT :P
So ya'll can just sod off!
No seriously, stop complaining about how much it costs in Europe and how much it costs in the states, coz i don't think it will ever change, but hey if it does let me know.
oh and btw those 2000 quid equals up to about 3500 dollars.
Feel free to correct and flame :)

These threads make me laugh. Far to many Europeans that have watched far to many American movies.
America is experiencing a difficult time(for some, I personaly am doing well). There will be reforms, as obviously a large government does not work in our culture. Politicians are far to irresponsible.
Our main problem both financialy and culturaly is immigration at this time. A problem that many parts of Europe suffer from the consequences as well...so dont kid yourselves.
America, when compared to Europe is competing with a market twice her size, with the combined finanicial influence of the entire European block. Are you surprised the recently formed EU is doing well compared to America? I for one am not.
I will say though, pound for pound America has many strengths, and in every category of the modern age besides maybe healthcare America outsrips any three European countries by leaps and bounds.
As a European American I find it sad that Europeans are so harsh on America. Sure we have our faults, but I dont believe that America should be the focal point of so much European hatred. You guys have other problems on the horizon you may want to pay more attention to.
TL:DR, So what, you pay more for now. It could all change in the blink of an eye. I for one have seen it swing both ways in my time, so I wouldnt sweat it.

As an American citizen it makes me sad to see so much haet directed at my country
Come to the northeast and the west coast, it's pretty nice around there, both weather-and-culture-wise. __________________________________

Please dont fib about the weather in the Northeast. We dont need them thinking we are outright liars too.
I would recomend the exact opposite to them as well. Quite frankly the Upper East/ Lower-Mid West Coasts of The Americas are the most crime ridden degenerated places in the Country. There is little to no coherent culture there IMO, and it has created a babbled mixed bag, with no redeeming qualities that measure up.
Incidently the Northeast and West Coast are where most foriegn visitors go....and I, depending on where they go would agree with them that it isnt a pretty sight.

it doesnt sadden me that they direct all this hate at america, everyone hates the world superpower anyway, and always will, remeber, not EVERYONE in europe hates america, there are a few on the forums that spew tons of hate at us, but hey, let them vent if they think insulting the world superpower is going to do anything, they are just mad that they are not the world superpower anymore, they had their time, now its our time, they just cant rid themselves of their holier than thou attitude (those who are spewing blatant insults at america, such as "obese, overweight uneducated burger flipping american teenagers" or 'we are paying their trade defecits, and giving them money for school and hospital development"
let them think they are completely superior if it helps their self esteem i guess

lol good luck getting that far, america has about as many civilian gun owners as britain's total population (44million american gun owners that are REGISTERD, and a total british population of around 60million) and alot of people that are gun owners are / were in the military / police department, so alot of them know how to use guns as well
i think thats a good quality america has, that we can OWN GUNS
this is a sad story, but of course, the old man should have just LET the burglar smash his skull in with a crowbar, i mean, defending his own life? absurd

Just pay with Isk. If you don't have enough for that just tell Cheng and his RMT farmer buddies to work a bit harder for the 0.0 space you rent out to them. Problem solved.
