I gave 178.13 a try yesterday and today and looks like the PhysX drivers that they contain crash Eve randomly. I uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled 175.19 and still Eve crashed.
It wasn't until I uninstalled the PhysX drivers that Eve became stable again. So if you try them and get the same issue make sure the PhysX drivers are uninstalled.

Anyone else having this problem? Usually if it just one person, I've found that its an issue with that person's system. When its 20-30 people, its an issue with the drivers.

I have 178.13 and have no problems with Eve in full screen at 1920x1200. I played for several hours last night and alt-tabbed a few times and didn't crash.

All I can say is I tried those drivers and Eve crashed a lot and since getting rid of the PhysX drivers it hasn't. So basic fault finding for pc's, last thing to be installed is usually the culprit.

I wasn't expecting dev responce but seeing as you are I'll try and trigger it again and get the crash dumps.
Note, I reported this to Nvidia also as I expected it would be a specific driver issue which they would/should fix |

WOW.. another person talking about what he doesn't understand.
nVidia use what's called a shared GPU path, hence why you can use the same driver for many of the Geforce models. A bug in the drivers will normally be present across multiple GPUs in the range. The 8400GS is a good a place than any to start.

I seem to have the same problem, crashing at gates and sometimes undocking/warping... and once or twice clicking on a menu item in station. I've lost three ships to it thus far. I've followed just about every piece of folklore on these forums (from killing sound to reinstalling everything short of my actual OS).

never had any problems untill 1.1.1

EVE doesn't hate ATI, ATI's drivers hate EVE, and other games.
Back in May they got corrupted and would BSOD my computer whenever I tried to play a game that used Pixel Shader 1.1. The uninstall software didn't remove the damaged files and the install software didn't over-write them. I switched to Omega drivers and the problem was fixed.
Now ATI's drivers BSOD my computer when my nightmare loads up in premium graphics. If I log in with my nightmare I get a BSOD with a pink square artifact and a stop code I haven't bothered checking out. If I change ships into my nightmare I get a BSOD with the same stop code I had when trying to install a pre-SP1 version of XP Pro on a 500gb drive indicating that somehow EVE + Premium + Nightmare + ATI's Drivers = something messing with my drives/partitions/boot table/something.
Lots of fun but it seems to be ATI's drivers as the only problem I have with Omega ATI drivers is that running 3 accounts on one computer randomly locks up my system without a BSOD and, so far as I can recall, I didn't have that problem with ATI's drivers. ____________________

I've raised a petition about this, but the GM who's responded seems convinced that it's a sound issue!
I'm undocking and about 30-50 seconds later the client crashes, sometimes bsod and mostly back to the desktop. The bsods are picked up by windows error reporting as Audio or some other unknown driver.
As I do windows application development on this machine too by debugger call stack shows trinity.dll calling something, either internal or in DirectX.
As for the drivers - I started having this problem after the last patch and went through 3 different NVidia drivers, three sound drivers and a mobo bios patch and still no improvement.
For me the only way to run Eve is to put it in ugly low graphics mode and squint for home-made vertex smoothing!

Drivers installed with no issues: 175.16 177.41 177.83 177.92 178.13 178.24 (current)
Software installed which Caused Issues: Riva-Tuner (every now and again would cause games to crash - not forcing v/sycn on the settings seemed to cure it!! No idea why though )
N-Hancer ( Now this really screwed my system up! Changing any settings on this would cause driver failures so had to remove it & all sweet again! note Had similar issues with this when i had an 8800gtx but not as extreme - would get crashes after 1hr of gameplay but not always after the same length of time!)
PhysX (The first 2 or 3 driver releases of this were totally unstable! Caused all sorts of random crashes & lockups! Left it un-installed until the latest 178.24 driver release (comes bundled with it) & no problems to report as of yet. note PhysX is only compatible with the 8 series & above - remove it if you using the 7 series or under)
On a final note, don't forget to check all your Motherboard drivers are also up to date (you'll be surprised how many people forget to do this!) |

I have had SERIOUS problems whit EvE game play since last patch. I must have tryed about everything there is, and sometimes it just got worse... I even tryed to update me realtek sound drivers, but had to do a backroll on it couse it only made it worse. I HATE forums, REALLY bad so i was sick about having to use it and spend lots of time reading up on it instead of playing... I had issues about windows not showing content, buttons just dont working. Chat freezing up, convos and warning windos comming up blank. And undocked, overview never show anything, to something that i knew wasnt there... Right click in space didnt work, left-hold meny didnt load and such things... Belive me, i have petitioned it all, run log server and dxdiag and sendt them all... Well today its sunday and i havent got any answers yet, couse i send it on friday night. But last night i saw a post about Nvidia PhysX, and checked it out. Ya, i had it... Uninstalled it and started up EvE again... Suddenly i could play again... NO PROBLEMS at all... I run: core2 Duo E8400 @3.00ghz 2GB DDR2 Ram @1066mhtz XFX GeForce 9800GTX x2 in sli link. Realtek onbord HD sound OS is now 6 days old and all drivers are up to date
Me thought is, if ur having grafix problems, check if u got the PhysX installed, and use add/remove to uninstall it... if its not the solution u can always reinstall it...

Frustration, is the word. I hav estruggled like many others with Eve lately. i have tried several drivers from Nvidia (currently using 178.24) but i still can't play for more than an hour, before the game crashes (usually when i undock), with 1970 pseudo colors/smeared graphics and the game simply hangs, forcing me to reboot. I have reinstalled my XP, i use the boot to safe mode to uninstall drivers before installing new drivers. I have the latest mobo drivers and xp SP3. I have run prime95 to stresstest my pc and it found nothing. My temps are fine (both GPU, CPU). Im simply running out of options. Note, EVE is the only game i have problems with. It runs Warhammer Age of Reckoning fine.
I have a 8800GTX gfx card btw. Seems im forced to put Eve on the shelve or use an older pc to run it :/

Originally by: Zensige I put anything i could to application controlled in the Nvidia control panel, I haven't gotten the driver not responding error yet and i have been pushing even with 2 accounts alt tabbing back and forth, docking undocking jumping etc. But this morning I got a blue screen (too fast to see what it says) and it immediatly proceeded to restart my computer. First time it happened when i started the second copy of eve, but then it happened while i just opened Vlc while having one eve client running.
Scrap that, after about 4-5 hours of no errors i decided to start my second eve client, shortly after the dreaded Driver stopped working message popped up with all its features( reboot etc)
Thats with the latest driver at this time, 178.24 Sli 8800 GTX xfx 6 gigs and Vista 64 HP

Once my second eve client reaches character selection it freezes up the computer and forces a reboot. This is both clients being run in windowed mode

reverting back to a December '07 driver fixed all of the problems i was having for anyone with similar issues
vista 64 8800 GTS 512 Q6600 cpu 4gb ram
i had upgraded to the latest 178.24 driver where i encountered: -inability to run in windowed mode without severe FPS loss -inability to run premium graphics without crashing -inability to run more than 2 clients at once without severe FPS loss -slow response from mouse input, i think from interface lag from low FPS
downgrading to vista 64 169.25 forceware drivers fixed all of these issues http://www.nvidia.com/object/winvista_x64_169.25_whql.html

I get random lock ups after leaving the station using a ATI sapphire 4850 card. Updated to the new drivers 8.11 and still the same problem. ----------------------------------------------- Kiran-"Falling is a kind of a peacful experience. But its the sudden stop at the end thats the killer." |
