afaik there's the main 'power blocs' BoB, who had GM help a while ago, so I don't like them. then there's the "goons" and they're just as bad as /b/tards etc and scam every chance they get (from reading the forum anyway) so I don't like those either.
who's left? which main alliance are the 'good guys' to route for? |

Good guys: The ones currently not blowing you up, or alternatively, the ones that drop the best loot. In eve, everything else is shades of grey. |

Well there is good and bad in everyone to be honest, and even the "good guys" are going to be the "bad guys" depending on how you look at it.
Providence area which is mostly CVA territory is populated by many people from different groups. The people that live there follow CVA's rules, which include no piracy, NRDS Not Red Dont Shoot policy and the area is open to neutrals to mine and rat in. CVA enforcs the rules and this in my view makes them the "good guys". However if you are into the roleplay side of eve you may hate CVA as they are amarrian roleplayers.
I m also a good guy, on mondays, tuesdays, thursdays and fridays.

Ok - I'll say it since no one else will...
The "carebears" are the good guys, the naive new players with dreams of being nice, sweet, helpful, and generally making eve a friendly place to be around.
However, playing "honorable" in eve is kinda like going into gun fight with a knife. Most people will play to the lowest common denominator and that's it.
Most carebears abandon lofty ideals at some point and conform to the realities of eve, others quit.
There is a remnant of dreamers who bide their time in the shadows. Waiting for the day when enough carebears join up so that they can leave empire space in a rainbow cloud ship and establish the kingdom of "care-a-lot"... Most likely somewhere in the North, right between Beastly's outhouse in the east and No Heart's Cloud Palace in the Delve. XD
If your looking to join the "good" guys, I'd suggest the northern alliance since they seem the most in need of support. At least it would help to balance the three power blocks.

Edited by: EglantinFinfleur on 30/09/2008 18:14:38 Welcome to the modern world of absolute relativism, in which nobody takes a stand for anything, except sometimes for one's buddies in the sustained hope that they will care about you too in the future. Since there's no moral authority in EvE -i.e. no far-reaching npc/playerbase managed faction that would hunt down gankers and scum-, and since there is absolutely no incentive to bust gatecamps, protect people, prevent villainous characters to pursue their villainous deeds, everybody just minds their own business, often collective if there is a bit of greed or need for engagements. Collective vigilantism is out of the equation, as there is no worthwhile rewards for it.
I would also surmise that the potential 'good guys' don't have the common sheep mentality that you can see in 0.0. They won't join the pyramid schemes going on in that part of the EvE galaxy, so they don't meet and greet and form new corps. There are some in lowsec i think. The Parrot Shoppe comes to mind. Ask them about their vigilante endeavors though. They came to the conclusion that policing lowsec only encourages freebooters to come do business, without participating in the policing -which bears no rewards, this should always be reminded-.
The rest are in highsec running missions alone, or in laidback corps. They don't go in 0.0 for aforementioned reasons, and they don't go in lowsec, because gankers huddle in 10ish gangs -one bait at gate, 9 docked fapping/eating hotpockets, ready to undock when called on voice coms-, and won't engage if you have equal or superior numbers.
Did i mention there's no incentive at all to police spacelanes?

Aye - the road to care-a-lot is a narrow path, No Heart's palace and Beastly's outhouse lie on either side, stray but a little and you'll soon be saying "YARRR"
because it's easy and appeals to base human nature.
Which brings us to the real crux of the matter:
Eve-Online is a secret goverment experiment in the true nature of man.
Which is greedy, self-centered, vain, lazy, and cowardly.
Those who rise above it are few and far inbetween, if you find one in this game, it's rare as many a carebear is actually a fearful coward who is scared to lose his ISKIES for any reason... even a good/fun one, which I'm pretty sure is the main reason the PVPers hate them.
Pirates are simply a more aggrivated version of these carebears. Think a house brownie verse a boggart. They are just as greedy/fearful, but they are greedy for fame and the freedom that comes from being able to "do what I want". To say nothing of the thrill of the feeling of being in control.
The Elites enjoy the "delusion of grandure" that they get when the organize 500 people into a massive capital fleet and crush an inferior target. I know, I've been one in other games. There's nothing quite as satifying as watching your plan come to fruition as if your a puppetmaster and the rest of the world is your marionet.
There ARE good guys in this game, but the problem is, there are two many bad guys in this game for a truely good corperation to arise, and if one did, the base element of this game would decend on them and attempt to destroy them by infiltration, propganda, intimidation, and, of course, attrition.
That said, if a good guy corperation ever came into creation, you would have my support and my allegence as I love to fight for the underdog and for a good cause, you'd better be organized and ready for one heckuva a fight, because that is what you would be in for.
