What do you plan to do when you reach your "goal". Not meaning your really have a set goal of how much isk you want. But what do you want to do in eve when you get ALOT of isk. (definition of alot is at your discretion).
Me: Honestly? I dont know why i want to collect isk. Maybe make a mega corp of billionaires? hi |

Sell more time codes you impoverished and deprived shadows of humanity. You can get 500m or so per code and depending on your alt tab skills you can make billions per minute. I was going to do that a month ago but got it wrong. I happened to look at the prices for Zydrine and someone a couple of jumps away was selling 1.6 bil for 2200 when the going price was 2800.
I bought it and put it back on the market at the same station. It had all sold within a couple of weeks.

I got plenty and for me it gives me the same feeling as it gives a real millionaire in real life. I have retired if you will... I donĘt grind missions, I donĘt do anything and still the billions keep coming in. Every now and then i do run a mission though, just for "fun".
I really only have fun, buy expensive stuff and donĘt do anything I don't like. I fly nice faction fitted ships and I am making a collection of faction ships and capitals just like in real life one would buy a collection of old timers and sports cars.
I also "give" away to friends (read: I invest in friends that have plans on how to make more), help them setup and become a Multi billionaire as well. Often they come to me for advice, and I guide them to the money, although only those that realy want to will get there.
It reminds me to the time i had a goal of becoming a multi billionaire and i needed some help.
For me its not a real goal to obtain say 100B isk or something, but i am happy as long as i see my wallet grow in billions. It allows me to buy anything i want, and i like that. My goal is to get a good feeling with it, and how that is done I donĘt care.
Sometimes its just looking at my balance and it makes me laugh (and feel good).... other times its investing into some friends who have a good plan to make more for themselves. If they succeed it makes me feel good to. And yet other times I love to be uncle scrooge and donĘt give a penny.
So my goal is to have a good feeling with my iskys.

This game have no ending or goal really. Earn more money, buy skills, train for more ships and lose them in pvp. Stuff keeps on repeat until one day you grow tired of the cycle or lost intereste then move on. There is no goal only killing time and try to have fun. Isk became meaningless once your income is higher than your expends. For me, that mark was at around 10b isk in wallet and around 460m per month income(for gtc ).

Sure it is. It might be suicide, but the question was "what to do when you reach your ISK goal." Since my ISK goal is enough ISK to take multiple titan losses and not care, if I somehow reach it, I will get my solo titan. |

isk and all the materials and skills already in a hanger to build a titan are irrelevant. You need sov 3 to anchor a capitol ship array and you will not ever in the entire time you play eve get sov 3 with a solo character. Also you will never convince an established alliance to build one for you since they will have no idea your not a goon alt or some such.

Again, understand the concept of "infinite ISK". For enough ISK, you can get a titan. For enough ISK, BoB would sell a goon alt a titan even if they knew it was an alt. The hard part is getting that much ISK...

Goals are never an end.. goals are a way to get to your new goal.
Example:
I started replaying eve bout a year ago after a long break.HAd no isk and just got a hulk from a friend. My goal was set to set my skills at building capital ships and mine till i had enough for 2 carriers and sell these..After i had enough for a 2nd hulk my 2nd account was reactivated to mine with me.Within a month i had the cariers build.Goal reached...
New goal was putting with the isk buy orders on the market to build me a few dreads.Orders set for 1st dread and started mining again with the 2 accounts.A month passes and i had 2 dreads for sale.Goal reached...
New goal double the amount of isk i had with general trades.Took me a month or 2.Goal reached...
New goal put pos up and do research for selling bpc's and bpo's with the idea of getting a 2B extra.I took mining ship bpo's since back then the profit still was verry high for these.Goal reached...
New goal: have fun.Did some pirating for a month just to keep me amused.
New goal to do some 'gamble' with the isk in trades and investments to get me to X bille before the end of the year. This can go either way so could be the end of the year i have less then i have at the moment or i have a huge number above current wallet. This is my current goal...

Now people may well say that i say this because i have lots if isk, but..
Imho, having lots of isk actually makes this game less fun.
Eve is a game for pedants, addicts, and collectors. You play eve more because you want to a)experience something you havent, b) buy something you havent got, c) do something you havent.
But when u have bought everything you want, done everything you can do, .. what is left? nothing.
strive to have more certaintly, but when you have it, it isnt what you really wanted, strangely.

1. Felt like i won eve 2. Thought i would buy an uber titan with my isk, but never did. The isk just sits there. 2. Stopped playing. 3. Continue to pay CCP for 3 accounts i still skill in the hope that CCP will make the game fun for me again one day. 5. Well, my (possibly ignorant) understanding is that every time someone mines an ounce of minerals, they are adding new money to the economy. So it would seem to me that in order to just keep up the value of your own wealth, you have to constantly add to it. There isn't a finite amount of money.
Sure, things get destroyed and not all wrecks/spent missiles/etc can be recovered back into the economy, but some can. And I suspect that the amount of wealth added into the economy from mining and such FAR outweighs the amount lost per day from destruction/spending of material goods.
Not to mention, where does the money from insuring ships come from? Is that just magically added into the economy?

Edited by: Ecatherina W on 31/10/2008 08:53:20 One day, when I actually do retire from Eve, I will be giving out my ISK in random acts of kindness. This will be done by lurking in the rookie help channel and finding some noobs, who seem like they are enjoying the game as much as I did when I was just starting out. And I will not spoil the game for them by handing them a billion - but I may hand them 100 mill or so, spreading the ISK over many instead of placing too much on one. New people handling shiploss without whining would be a good example of what I would be looking for.
And no, I will never give 1 single ISK to anyone asking for it. If you ask for it, you don't deserve it in my book. Go mine veldspar for all I care.

Edit: OMG, I just realized just how long that plan will take

Can I not have all your stuff?
You would think CCP would have added things like, "Amarr", "CCP", "Microwarpdrive", etc. to their forum dictionary.

Originally by: slothe Imho, having lots of isk actually makes this game less fun.
Eve is a game for pedants, addicts, and collectors. You play eve more because you want to a)experience something you havent, b) buy something you havent got, c) do something you havent.
But when u have bought everything you want, done everything you can do, .. what is left? nothing.
This is exactly my thought. Getting rich early on indirectly took the fun out of the game for me. I've not been able to get back into Eve since (2+ years now) and wonder if I ever will. I am flatly non-plussed about capital ships which changes the numbers by a few factors, but having enough ISK to do whatever you want means the only thing you have to work for is skill training, and you don't have to play to get them up...and I haven't. I was a victim of my own in-game success way back when...
What I would like is something fun to do, whatever it might be....isk is not an object. -------------

I don't collect isk, I use my isk to aquire assets, and thoose in turn make even more isk :). I am good for over 1 Bill isk (closing on 2 soon), but my wallet is about 100 Mill :P

These are some interesting thoughts. I've been playing for under a week.
My goal hasn't really involved isk, but how many resources I can amass.
I thought it would be hilarious to email my friend (who got me to try the free trial last week) a screenshot of me having like 200 million tritanium in a port somewhere.
By the numbers some people here are posting, my grand scheme is sort of laughable. I guess it's newbie syndrome, but I find myself scraping for skill books instead of wondering what I'll do with my huge numbers. I'll get there one day though....just you wait! I came, I saw, I mined the asteroid, then I warped home. |

Originally by: Qordel Well, my (possibly ignorant) understanding is that every time someone mines an ounce of minerals, they are adding new money to the economy.
Nope your understanding is wrong. Minerals dont add ISK!. Because you cannot sell them to the NPCs....only stuff that adds money is 1. NSC Bounties 2. Mission Rewards 3. Insurance. Every other source of income is money you get from other players. But you are right the amount of ISK addd to the game is more than the amount lost. But as parallel to more ISK, more wares and players are coming into the game, the inflation should keep in line.
But yes, inflation in eve sucks, because the money earning mechanics in 1-3 wont increase, so with inflation you have no higher "wages" in eve ^^

It makes losing ships or getting podded so much less painful.

The evil side of me would want to fit out a uber faction ship go out hunting ppl then ransoming their ships only letting them go if the sing 'I feel pretty' over ts (or whatever that song is called from anger management).

When i started getting into making good ISK i had no goal. I was just a noob experimenting with the game. At that point i had something like 7-8 million in sp and was a very proficient 0.0 ratter. Since i aced ratting it started to really bore me. I was also turned off pvp since my alliance was not only anti-pirate but we kept losing engagements quite often and had FCs that would scream and swear on ts. So for fun i turned to explore some other activities than the usual rat/lose ships in fleet/listen to FC swear routine and so it happened that these activities made me ISK. I pirated up in Gallente space for a while, then went very heavily into trading and scamming.
I retired when I got bored of doing what i was doing, liquidated everything and discovered i had made about 300 bil in process. This wasn't my goal, just what i made until i gotten bored of what i was doing. It is a relifNow I spend time looking for a good corp to join to pvp with. My old corp is dead and I have been soloing for a very long time now. Been with 3 corps over the past 3 months but chose to leave them for various reasons. Making money is easy in EVE but finding a good group to fit in with i found is the hardest part ;)

As some would consider me rich, I still won't retire.
The fun of playing markets is just to sweet. Also to be able to buyout an item in a whole region is entertaining. Or just log in my main, and buyout the 0.0 region so only our corp only has mods or mods for a reasonable price instead of what I sell them for to others.
Or just buy ships all over, letting them in station and when I pvp and loose a ship, I have ships in local to jump into.
tbh I will never stop making isk, it's my core, I am a builder, and always will be.
