Could be awesome! Or could be bad!
One of those to be annouced features could always be a bug squashing! I'd bet it might be the unintended mechanic of blowing up other players ships. This long standing bug has been unitentional and obviously is detrimental to the large portion of our player base that are carebears! Its removal will do much to reduce lag as there will no longer be huge fleet battles!
Oh my it sounded better than I thought and that's why I'm quitting after the ghost training who knows how far they'll go?

Weapon Linking as well as store front and the Speed Balance/Nerf stuff is already in Sisi as well, so it's not too farfetched to believe they might be part of 1.2 as well - so what is left for this mysterious addon named EVE: Quantum Rise?

yes yes.. ok fine, orca, rumored to be a empire type of rorq.. what ever.
what about the rest of that? reballenced? does that mean nerf, or improve? because there are a lot of things about indys needing fixed, and not much to nerf.
for instance, the caldari tech 2 indys cant host a tank that even matches a badger (asside from sheer HP)... and how the non-blocade runner transports are not even able to haul as much as their tech 1 counterparts (occator holds less than a iteron 5, for instance)... are THOSE the types of fixes?
or are they gonna nerf the badger, isntead of boost the transports above it? are they gonna nerf the iteron 5 rather than boost the ...
well, what they could do is make ALL of them better... even with 35km3 my occator isnt enough, and i cant afford a freighter, so i make 3 trips. lame.
THIS is the part i would be most intersted in.
badges blah blah ... care less.
onward to the indys!

It was said multiple times that this would be impossible to implement because it would put too much additional strain on the servers.
Suddenly it turns out to be a significant optimization?

I've never said it would be "impossible to implement because it would put too much additional strain on the servers". I have, however, expressed such concerns about the various proposals for "Reload all with...". But Weapon Grouping makes "Reload all with..." unnecessary... or implements it neatly, depending on how you look at it.

No, reloading all N of your guns simultaneously was too strenuous.
This Makes your N guns into one gun with a Nx damage and ammo modifier, meaning there are 1/N the calculations per volley, and adds the convenient ability to change ammo types for 'all' guns at the same time (by loading one gun with N loads of ammo, and firing N shots at once)
This is a significant optimization because of calculating everything for, say all 7 of a BS's guns times however many BS in both fleets, you now only need to calculate one gun per BS.

For you it's a serious server optimization then. For us it's just a long overdue UI tweak.
It all depends on how you look at it.

If it really does that then it opens up a whole new can of worms.
Tracking anyone?
Anyways, I'm way past bedtime. Looking forward to more of this tomorrow.

Edited by: Stormwind Bloodfeather on 16/10/2008 00:44:11 Lets see, less than 48 hours ago CCP announces the end of ghost training. A massive shit storm ensues. CCP cover it up by having forum issues that hide the dev blog thread itself from view. Now, the morning after they enact the end of ghost training on the servers Chribba (you work for CCP dude?) reveals this little bit of news about a patch thats months away....
Is this called Stick and Carrot?????
Damn you CCP, Damn you (contemplates the current UNSUBSCRIBED state of my accounts... ok maybe after this goes live i'll come take a peek-see)

*edit no I don't support ghost training and do agree with it's removal, just not HOW said removal was handled. So, lets not turn this into a ghost training whine, this expansion looks interesting to me.

So then, every time you reduce lag its going to be heralded as a feature? We all love and appreciate optimizations, but I don't see what it has to do with Quantum Rise. Fleet battles are still going to lag, and the game mechanics are unchanged. _______________________________________________ CCP CENSORSHIP ALERT: CAN YOU SPOT IT? |
