When I tried it yesterday I couldn't get any chat channel to blink for enter and leave messages. So I was under the impression that it was ok.

I agree so hard, I am peeing my pants!
I'm not a pirate, but when I covert-op a gatecamped system, I don't want all the alarms and bells and whistles to go off announcing my arrival plz thx.
Actually... is there anyone here who DIDN't turn off the feature as soon as you saw it for the first time? ------------

How about removing the avatars and names and settle with a indicator figure showing nothing but the NUMBER of people in local?
After all, I find it more "realistic" that you know the number of pilots active in the same solar system. Their names and faces however shouldn't show there, for a number of reasons, most of them mentioned above.

Edited by: Detron on 07/07/2004 11:17:51 Just let things as they are I want a blinking when just pirates come in
Thumbs up CCP!
On a serious note, it can be bad for pirates but good for miners. However I do not believe that the blinking is anything extra. When you mine in 0.0 space you have local always up anyway. You know the people who drop in and out and check their profiles constantly. If it either blinks or not it doesn't matter actually.
PS(edit): Darn typos

CCP: Here's that cloaking device you have been dying for Jezzebell. Jezzebell: WOOT!!! CCP: BTW, We added this thing to local that tells everyone the second you enter the system. Jezzebell: HUH?!?!
But seriously, whats the point of all this covert ops equipment with that thing implemented? Also, it is very obnoxious. _______________________________

The point in that is that the bunch of developers called CCP are noobs and carebear fans. -- Stories: #1 --

well this could work both ways for the prey and for the hunter. but this game has enough lag we don't need ALL our chat channel's blinking whenever someone log's in AND log's out. i think it was a waste of programming. not complaining though ------------------------------------------------ A Plague is comming.... |

This issue is closely related to the effort of solving blobwars.
BEar with me as I start off slightly to one side of this topic to demonstrate:
PvP in EVE is stale, has no purpose other than to "kill". What is needed is something to fight over, somthing you can plant your flag on and announce "hey everybody, this is mine, come take it away". And before someone says conqurable stations please consider the low number and poor implemenation of these, yes they are a start but fall VEY short of delivering the sort of actiona packed, purpose-filled fights most every PvP'er wants.
First off we need the features to allow us to build things (deployables/whatever), secondly we need them to be destroyable in some fashion without timezones and the like being too much of an issue (I like the reinforced state ideas in the Shiva pages).
We then need resons for corporations, organisations and alliances to start deploying other types of ships. Frigates and cruiser have their place now among the more creative fighters out there, but the bigger is better problem is re-inforced by features like Show pilots currently docked/in spaceon the map, or the displaying of actual names of people in local and the recent addition of pilot xxxx has entered the channel.
From a purely entertainment point of view it is far more satisfying for players is each aspect of the game required skill (not character skills). If there was no easy way to find out what was in the systems nearby, a fleet commander had to rely on his scouts to scan them for hostiles. This could lead to more engagements where each side attempted to deny the opposition's scouts a chance to move around freely. There is some of that now, but any commander with a map can quickly go "ohh there they are" and either log off or move towards them to watch them log off...
Ofcourse logging off would prevent you from defending assets like deployables which is why we need them - it gives people something to fight OVER, other than "we killed x number of ships, so we had fun".
To returning to this topic again, we can see how this addition is a step in the wrong direction. It favors individualized play, unimaginative playing, dull playing, easy playing, lazy playing, and sticks the finger in the face of those who embrace teamwork and the rewards accociated with acomplishing a goal as a group.
In short, like I wrote elsewhere (paraphrasing): Adding this feature is tantamount to posting a 300 pound fat, bald doorman in a pink tutu by each gate making him scream the name of people pasisng by at the top of his lungs...
@CCP: Please make sure you consider how additions like this effect key gameplay, both current and future gameplay is changed by this, and in the wrong direction. -- "I am an expert in not caring.
