Ganking, I mean PVP are still possible - some lamer tried to get me last night by camping by a station in a .3 in an alt; I was going to station to pick up an escrow item. Course as soon as I entered station the alt logged off and guess what guy with like a -8.8 suddenly pops up in local. I think should I just log off - IN station before I get flamed; I was going to anyway when I got back to my home base - or come out of station and take my chances?? Well I took the non care bear approach - I was armor tanked/sheild tanked and had 3 heavy missle bays active so I figured if he did web me or get a shot off at me I would take shots back and take my chances. I took the time to do a show info on him - after I left the station, set my destination, then hit my auto pilot...dude never even got a shot off at me. His response in local as soon as I warped? "I was ready to hit fire motha" exact words. My question is why didn't he? What took so long
I'm not a PVP'er by nature but was willing to do so in this situation if provoked into it apparently this -8.8 guy must not be too quick.

He was bluffing you most likely trying to entice you to shoot. If he was outside a station, the sentries would destroy whoever opened fire first.

In a .3 it is my understanding that the sentries don't care unless you hit them/station and I've read before on the forums of people getting detroyed coming out of station in this fashion. If it's true that he couldn't then that makes more sense but I won't fire first but will hopefully fire last

Amazing this topic...
Wow.
Weirda turned it off in one minute and still know when people come/leave sector... always have... The whole 'slippery slope' idea of the end of PvP and ad hominem attacks about carebear/noob/griefer/etc is really beside the point.
What really amazing though is how much up in arm ppl are about this...
Local channel is like 'local frequency'... don't you think those gate cause a huge spike and some sort of transmission to the local frequency when they port some x-million ton object through? Every ship need to have some sort of transponder so that gate could even recognize them ffs.
One feature that may be cool though would be this... the ability to turn off you transponder (fly under the radar). When off - local could not see you, but you could not see local either... that's where the covert op scouting come in... fly in with transponder off and actually scout system cloaked, gather up list of names and report back.
Either way - you couldn't have it both ways, either you see all and they all see you - or you see none and none see you. Would get the adreneline back and would even the handicap/playing field (maybe miners would turn their transponder off so that no one would know what system that they in)... Also this would effect the map too, could make for some interesting gate gank scenerios (all transponder off so you don't realize there 8 dude sitting in a system you thought empty).
Either way - Weirda's point is that there a lot of people here with good suggestion, and a lot who just being mob mentality and sounding like baby. All BS aside though - every handicap is equal... we all in the same space... -- Thread Killer

Sentries aren't that hard. A single battleships can kill another poorly fitted BS while the sentries fire on him. Not to mention a cruiser, which dies in less than 10 seconds. What he meant when he said that was probably that he got lock on you the second you warped away.
Now, back on topic.

Only the sentry guns in empire space protect people with a -4.9ss to +blah blah blah
there are non empire space systems with a security level above 0.1
