Edited by: NightmareX on 12/11/2008 21:11:49 Hello \☺.
I see lots of topics going now where many peoples can't get the Anti-Aliasing and the HDR to work at the same time on ATI cards that support Shader Model 3.0. But if your running EVE with Premium graphic, you should be able to run it with AA and HDR at the same time. Like you can with Fallout 3 for example.
And there is a guy who have made that possible a little while ago, and you can find the link to what you need to do HERE.
Or you can just download the ready made VBR script that you can just click on and it will do the job for you to make you run EVE with AA and HDR at the same time. The VBR Script is HERE.
You have to place the VBR script file in the main EVE folder where you have installed EVE Online (where the bin folder is located).
Remember, when you have clicked on the VBR file and then pressed OK after that, you will have a new shortcut on your Desktop that is called 'EVE Online - HDR'. Just start EVE from that shortcut.
And when you are ingame, then just press ESC and then go to the option where you can turn on HDR and Bloom. Then just activate them and you will see that you can run EVE Online with AA and HDR at the same time.
Normally if you have done that without the script, you would just lose the Anti-Aliasing when you activate HDR. But that wont happen now. You will still have the full Anti-Aliasing activated if you have that activated in your graphic card option.
Now enjoy the awesome graphic in EVE .

edit: oh wow! the VBR method is even cleaner because it doesn't run that damn command window in the background!

Please be careful when running scripts inside of your client's folder. You usually dont know what it does / could do.

Originally by: Bob Niac Please be careful when running scripts inside of your client's folder. You usually dont know what it does / could do.
This script is 100% safe to use. I use it on both TQ and Sisi.
Simply, the script are just making the 'bin-hdr' folder in your main EVE folder, then it takes copy of the whole bin folder and place that in the 'bin-hdr' folder and then automaticly renames the 'ExeFile.exe' file to 'oblivion.exe' in the 'bin-hdr' folder.
Then it makes you a shortcut of the 'oblivion.exe' file to your Desktop, and the shortvut is called 'EVE Online - HDR'.
Here is a picture of the script opened in Notepad: LINK. Now tell me, do you find anything fishy there? .
That's what it does.

CCP have even said that the EVE graphic engine, also Trinity 2 doesn't even support Anti-Aliasing, so that's the reason you can't enable Anti-Aliasing ingame.
But still, it works by forcing the graphic driver to use Anti-Aliasing.

Forgot to tell that i have an old Radeon X1900XT card, so by running Anti-Aliasing and HDR and with full Anisotropic Filtering at the same time, it hurts my performance in EVE badly, so nornally i don't run EVE with HDR on then, only the Anti-Aliasing and the Anisotropic Filtering are at full.
But on sisi i run EVE with HDR on sometimes though.

ATI cards have been capable of doing this for the last 2-3 generations, the only reason that it isn't in eve officially as an option is because Nvidia couldn't do it back in the day, and their performance suffers a hell of a lot these days if you turn it on (more than ATI's does) and CCP is very much in bed with Nvidia when it comes to graphics. I've been using the above method myself for ages and can confirm its safe.
Theres a few games out there (outbreak/fallout 3) that allow you to turn on HDR and AA if your running ATI hardware with no work around needed.

one question:
do i have to go to the ati control panel and force AA on, or can i leave it on "let application control this" (or something to that effect) in order for this script to work?
i also have the x1900xt card, will this significantly impact my performance?
i think i'd rather have AA than HDR (if having both is not an option, if it's too slow as the result), as jagged blinking lines across the screen annoy me far more than lack of HDR would. |

Yes since EVE Online officially doesn't support Anti-Aliasing, then you can't activate Anti-Aliasing ingame, so you have to enable Anti-Aliasing in the graphic card driver settings.
Yes, running with everything on max will take your FPS alot down. I think i had around 12-16 FPS on sisi last time on sisi in space. So i would guess it will be better to run EVE with Anti-Aliasing and Anisotropic Filtering instead then.
But for those who have the newest graphic cards from ATI, you can run everything on full without any problems though.

Thank you.
Edit: Sorry, just to make this clear.
If I enable AA and AntiAliasing in ATI control panel, and don't care about HDR, then I don't even need this script at all, do I? The script is only necessary if you want AA/AntiAliasing and HDR together, right?
And also, if I enable AA, and NOT run the script, then enabling/disabling HDR in EVE will have no effect (it will be OFF, regardless), correct?

Question 1: Yes that's correct.
Question 2: If you don't use the script, you can still enable HDR in EVE ingame, but you will lose the Anti-Aliasing in EVE if you enable HDR even when Anti-Aliasing it's forced to be on in the graphic card driver settings.

It works in both windowed and full screen mode.
But you might have to reboot you computer to get the Anti-Aliasing to work. Because i know that if you have been playing some games that you play in full screen and then exit the game, then the ATI driver sometimes use to get some bugged in some ways. And wont allow you to have AA on even when it's enabled.
So the only way to fix that is to reboot your computer.
But if you still have the problem after that, then let me know.

Have you tried this one?: LINK.
EDIT: Ops, you already said something about ATT, so other than that, i don't think there is any better alternatives than ATT if you don't like the Catalyst Control Center atm.

Also for those with nVidia cards, download and use a program called nHancer. This will allow you to do the same thing with in EVE and a multitude of other games.
You need to got to the eve profile (or make on if it isn't there) and then the compatibility tab and set the right compatibility mode for AA and HDR (which is... 00000045: AA & HDR).

Actually its a legacy problem with Nvidia hardware from the 6 and 7 series, for the longest time they claimed it was "impossible" even after their hardware supported it because of the performance hit.
As Nvidia help game developers with their TWIMTBP branding and throw money at them to help "tweek" the graphics next to no developers have taken advantage of the fact that its possible. Its the same thing with Assassins Creed pulling DX10.1 support because it made ATI hardware perform so much better as Nvidia cards couldn't take advantage of the added extentions. As it was a TWIMTBP branded game there is no way they could have ATI hardware looking/performing better so they removed it in a patch.
Its one of the reasons I refuse to get Nvidea hardware. Old link about it with links to benchmarks etc
