Scamming? Murder? They are all crimes ... this game has a "Dark side". I know what your about to say: YES, you can still kill someone in 1.0 for the price of a ship.
When will people realise this game can be evil by design and for that I love it!
Do you go into 0.0 un-prepared and expect to live? So why should you buy stuff without checking it properly and expect to get the correct thing?
I would doubt very much that "in real life" if you bought a car for 10mil coz you didnt read the price tag/details correctly that you would get any legal recourse... isn't it something like "Buyer Beware" when talking about private deals (escrow)? If something is labeled even in really small print then the seller is generaly covered. I have seen adverts in the papers that start with the word SEX in big bold red fonts designed to grab your attention. This doesn't mean they are selling sex, it just gets you to read the small print, what a lot of you guys are saying is that they should be made illegal as well?
Do something about it! Get your corp to declare war and then kill the scammer, kill them again and then start taking out his/her corp mates.
Be lucky and be more carefull!!!!!

Originally by: Adriana The thing with scammers is that there is no recourse. If something like this happened irl you would go to the police and say hey I've been scammed, and the police would then look for the scammer and wtfpwn him.
Why would the police wtfpwn someone who put $1000 on the price tag of a t-shirt and you bought it?
Cause basically that is what happened. You are free to price your wares at any price you like. Wether people pay what you ask or not is not CCP's fault.

Just out of curiosity, how did you loose 27m on a reactor control I? If you were using the market, it gives you a "higher than" price warning. If you're using escrow you make sure you look at the item before claiming. Just check once, then check again and you shouldn't loose money unless you are careless in which case you only have yourself to blame
Personally, i think in ESCROW a double click on the item, bringing up the inspection would be better with only rclick to claim. shoudl prevent some of the . . ah . . "mis-click" buys.

Well this actually goes against my principles but what a hell.........
I'm used to take care of me own a s s (that is what we do in sudamerica) so if you get scammed I'll normally said to you........."too bad live and learn"
I've never been scammed as I check the price/escrow 3 or 4 times before buying (sometimes even more)
But maybe and just maybe an easy solution to this would be to have more than 1 wallet (I know corps will get more than 1 wallet in Shiva that's why I'm poposing this) that way you have your main wallet (where you keep all your millons) and a day to day wallet wich u use to buy (and that will never hold more than the money you are willing to spend). If you don't have enough money in your day to day wallet to buy something you won't be able to buy it even if you have 1B on the other one
Just my 2 isk
Cheers

What are you people talking about "the cops would go get the scammers"? Cops are maids. They are there to clean up the mess. They don't go after anyone anymore. Try calling 911 sometime. If the perp isn't there they may show up to start a report in a few days.
Start PAYING ATTENTION to what you are buying and the price. You act just like people in RL that want the government to make it all better. Then b!tch when they take control away from you to make your own decisions.

exactly, what's with all the idiots. You are warned when you try to do it, the price is right there. And you ignore it, so deal with it.

I don't even understand HOW you mannage to get scammed, for the market there is the popup saying your about to buy an item costing more than it's standard price. In escrow, you DO NOT buy something that says "scorpion" for 62 mil without checking the goods first. That's pure stupidity...

double click on the ESCROW goods, you don't need to use rclick > inspect.
That removes the chance of accidentily hiting claim.
Didn't know that. well, I guess the game still has afew things to be learned.

Whats needed is a central bank, like in RL. You could put all your spare isk in it and just keep a float to keep you going. Hey, I think I'll start a bank. Just open an account with me. Deposit your money with me and I'll look after it for you...ok?

The thing some of you are missing the boat on is that I am not talking about a shuttle named a shuttle and priced for 1,000,000 isk. I'm talking about a shuttle named apoc and priced accordingly.
In the first case you just paid entirely too much for a shuttle, but the buyer didn't misrepresent what he was selling you.
In the second case the buyer is guilty of FRAUD because he told you you were getting one thing, and then sold you another. Thats fraud, the police WOULD wtfpwn you, and you would go merrily to jail.
So lets talk apples and apples, not apples and oranges. The first is a very overpriced (designer) shuttle, the second is a crime and should be subject to legal recourse.
As for declaring war, how many newbie corps have you ever declared war on? Thats right, NONE. What happens is that someone makes an alt, who never leaves a station and scams other people. Then they log on and see how much they have managed to defraud people for, and transfer that to their main account.
Guess what, irl BOTH people would be wtfpwned by the police. The first for fraud, the second for fraud if they could prove he knew about the scam, and if not they would nail him for recieving stolen goods and possibly a few other crimes.

I dont know why ppl are compairing this to real life, but since we are. Do you ppl really belive that a system like this, a system that could ruin you and your family financially, becasue you were tired or didnt look at the pricetag for one reason or another, would be tolerated in rl, dont think so. I bough this box of cheerios but i didnt notice that it had a pricetag of 56k, sry dude i have already charged your credit card.
Its true though its not ccp¦s fault but it is their problem if it causes ppl to leave the game.

Ah sometimes being poor in a game is good cause then I'm slightly careful with my hard earned dollah. I didn't know beans about using the escrow so I looked at CCP's very nicely detailed documentation. I think their documentation on this type of thing is pretty good compared to some other games I've played.
