well, price scams are just another pain in the ass. I have to triple-check the price of the item that I'm buing just to make sure that i never get scammed. This makes my head hurt sometimes because it's boring, repetitive and quite difficult to do while drunk. And as you know, ****ing off the drunk population of eve is not good customer-wise, we're half of the online players

There is no such thing as 'price scamming', the seller isn't misrepresenting their item as something it's not. It's called speculation, a cornerstone of a capitalist society.
If your goods sell they're worth what they sell for, there's no-one forcing you to buy anything, there's no monopoly in place, you're not restricted to go elsewhere and buy the item there if the price isn't right for you.
I suggest you slow down and perhaps get some sleep before purchasing anything off of the market again.

Both credit cards and bank account has "stop payment" methods for various reasons. One of them is for when someone offers one type of item, and delivers another.
As for the market price warnings, people have jacked with the prices so much that they are now little more than nuisance warnings, that serve only to desensitize to the true price of the product they are buying. They should have been removed from the game long ago.

I bough this box of cheerios but i didnt notice that it had a pricetag of 56k, sry dude i have already charged your credit card.
Its true though its not ccp¦s fault but it is their problem if it causes ppl to leave the game.
Exactly!!!
ItÆs never happened to me yet, but its dam easy to make mistakes when youÆre tired.
This is a scam. No one would knowingly pay 10mill for a shuttle - so itÆs not an 'agreed' upon price.
I could live with scammers if there was some way to get justice / revenge, but with unlimited alts there is basically no accountability in this game.
Now I know CCP wonÆt get rid of alts, but players should at least be limited to just 3 (i.e. you canÆt delete alts.) Basically the 3 chars you create are tied to the CD key and canÆt be deleted; you have to live with you alts.
At least this way corp thiefÆs / grieferÆs and scammers will become known by their reputation and their ability to repeat scam will be limited. (An option should be added to the market to enable players to choose / limit who they want to sell / buy from.)
Sure you can get another account but that will cost you úúú for each CD-key.

In other MMOGs, those that scam will have a gm visite him/her pretty quickly. You have to realize that each scamer often cost the game company more than one customer. Just take look at the price for skills near the starting station for new players. A lot of them are well over 300k instead of around 20k-40k. Can you imagine new players comes into the game try to buy an engineering or learning skill but have to pay 300k+ on the second day they enter game? Things such as skills, shuttle, tech 1 modules should be flooded into the market to bring the price down and leave no room for scamers. This way new players can actually enjoy the game a lot more. Having pvp is one thing, do nothing about scamers is another. In general, scamers are bad for the spirit of any game and should be delt swiftly.

heh, i still have my 9.99m isk shuttle. I got inn ahurry & clicked on buy - 1 - ok -... before i realized it i have a damn expensive shuttlecraft to fly about. I keep it to remind me to never get in a hurry again.
However, the new buy-price warning thing should help fix this sort of scamming,eh? then again i suppose i might get used to instantly bypassing those, since they popup at such small price fluxuations. I thought the idea behind those was to warn you of major price fluxuations?
To me paying 60k for a 40k module is incredily unimportant & unworth my time even having to clck the window to let me buy it anyways. However if someones' trying to sell me a 40k module for 40,000,000 isk then i would darn well appreciate a warining, wouldn't you?

It is very simple; You can not spend what is not in your wallet. I have XX millions sitting in the wallet of an alt character. I might have as much as 300K in my wallet at any given time. That alt charater does nothing, but sit on my excess isk.
Sitting in Duripant, I had to buy a shuttle and of the four races present, 3 were for as much as 8,999,000.00 isk. If I had boned up and bought one of them, my wallet would not let me.
It is very simple to keep from getting wacked by the Attention Deficit bug in the human cranium; Go Poor to the market.

27M on a RCU? I can top that! Bought a Small SHield Booster II for 110 Million! The warning window popped up (like every second time you buy something) and I simply didn¦t get all the zeros. Thats really sad...but on the other side I know people who forgot to reinsure their battleship and lost the about same amount. The most stupid thing is that I know this **** can buy a nice BS from my money...
It was a good lesson...I read the rorums if I have a chance to get my money from a GM back...doesn¦t seem so. So I transfered most of my money to one ALT i never use...lesson learned +++ Trade...good for you, good for me +++ |

welll, actually the newspapers are full of these kind of things. E.g. Phone bills which are way out of control because of some virus or a por_n scam which makes you phone to barbados. Good luck trying to get your money back (it's nigh impossible). A rl friend of mine has experienced this (the virus, not the scam ). He had to pay to the phone company, even though he was scammed. He filled a complaint with the police, and they are looking into it. He expects a reply Soon(tm)

I agree that allowing these scams to take place is hurting the game. It corrupts the scammers and infuriates/depresses the victim.
Saying pay attention etc is BS. The scam takes place the 1% of the time the player is NOT paying attention so blaming them is bogus. The warning comes up on practically every buy so players automatically click through it. The warning is useless.
The 1% tax in Shiva etc is one way to deal with the situation (at the cost of market liquidity -- everybody gets 1% poorer). A much better solution would be to be able to petition scammers and have cross account penalties for scamming. This would work for both market scams and escrow scams. In the real world you get thrown in jail for defauding people. It should be the same in EVE. _____________________________________________ I am motivated by various things, mostly ISK. |

In the first case you just paid entirely too much for a shuttle, but the buyer didn't misrepresent what he was selling you.

All well and good, however If I were to use my common sense: Someone puts a ford escort (one worth about 500 quid) onto a second hand car sales forecourt. However they label it "Ferrari" and stick a price tag of 30,000 quid on it. Yes the seller is in the wrong, but then I am the one being silly enough to spend my hard earned cash without checking it first!!! And if the seller was using a false name and ran off, how would the police now who he was? Edited by: Astinius on 01/08/2004 17:47:42 I am well over this incident. I have aquired my losses by at least double through non scamming ways. I took someone's advice and created an alt that I use to store all my surplus ISK. This wont happen to me again even if I blindly click ok to everything I buy. I made sure it can't. Having multiple accounts in Shiva will make this even easier to avoid.
I have revised my thinking on the scamming issue:
If it stays "which I do not mind now" the buyer should have the ability to mark the seller with his opinion of him. Someone mentioned flagging him as a theif. If he gets enough of these flags, people will not do business with him.
If CCP does not add this type of function then it should go, buyers just need to have any type of recourse.

A very *improper* comparisation.
You know what, if some people are too pathetic to check escrow deals or read numbers correctly they shouldn't be sitting at home playing this game and go back to school instead.
