Originally by: Astinius ... I have revised my thinking on the scamming issue:
If it stays "which I do not mind now" the buyer should have the ability to mark the seller with his opinion of him. Someone mentioned flagging him as a theif. If he gets enough of these flags, people will not do business with him.
If CCP does not add this type of function then it should go, buyers just need to have any type of recourse.
Very well. But what would you think would happen then? What would stop people from buying stuff and giving bad marks, perhaps because they didn't like the price? YOu would have a new tool for grief that could be exploited easily. No thanks.

Originally by: Celebon double click on the ESCROW goods, you don't need to use rclick > inspect.
That removes the chance of accidentily hiting claim.
Didn't know that. well, I guess the game still has a few things to be learned.
And should you happen to click claim once, a box appears with something like; "Do you want to claim... <content of escrow> ... for the price of xxxx isk" Click "Yes" or "No"
Anyway, tough luck, and back to working your fortune up again. Allways easier second time :)

I know you can inspect them, and double check and triple check the numbers before pressing the ok button, but this is just asking for a situation whereby you lose customers. One scam can ruin someone, and when they figure out that there is nothing to be done, and that you guys actually approve of things like this they often just say the hell with it and leave.
Eve isn't one of those gentle games that you may be used to. it is not a mass market carebear game that protects and coddles you and spoonfeeds entertainment to you in 15minutes after you get home from work. it doesn't exist to appeal to mass market and make millions for it's shareholders of the parent company.
Scamming and theft is part of the original game design (read box). just like a few other games which incorporate intense backstabbing or trickery as part of the play (note the game "Diplomacy"). It's not for everyone and that is fine- go play something else then!
Eve is purposely a hardcore evironment where in seconds you can lose everything- this is a rare game where the stakes are so high that it gives you moments of extreme adrenaline rush and drives you mad when things go wrong- events in this game have more value because of it. Other games you can get killed a thousand times and you don't even care. if you don't like a type of game which has brutal consequences for making stupid mistakes then get out and play any game from EA.
thnx.

I was in a rush once, and needed a RCU iirc. After clicking it, i realised it looked like more than 17k. It was 17M.
I learned from it, and always check things 3 times at least.
As long as she doesn't got < .4 there's jack**** you can do about her. Ow and, the person I bought from was the same you mention...

Though I understand the risk in escrow, and the place it has in the game, it would be nice if it wasn't possible to evade detection through the use of Alt characters. I've come close to paying harvester prices for basic mining drones. I'd be more interested in blowing up the scammer than getting my money back. Just as there are consequences to not paying attention to the merchandise, there should be penalties for a "life of crime".

one EASY solution for the market scam is to RIGHT justify the prices, instead of LEFT justify as they are now...that will make it MUCH easier to notice dirbags adding a zero to the end of their ask price...simple, yet effective...usually currency values are always right justified for this very reason...i have no idea why CCP decided to left justify the advanced market currency amounts....it just doesnt make sense. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Originally by: Adriana The thing with scammers is that there is no recourse. If something like this happened irl you would go to the police and say hey I've been scammed, and the police would then look for the scammer and wtfpwn him.
They would only take action if the buyer had lied about the price or what you were buying. If you are careless or stupid enough to pay over the odds for something then it's your fault. Pay more attention next time. -- (Battle hardened miner)

Can I make an obvious point that people seem to have missed? As we can't train up our perception skills in real life was well as we can in game, perhaps the trouble is with the FONT and COLOURS of the market window. Black text on a white background would be easier to make out, particularly as the Eve market/cash font is so small. This is the main problem imho, because sometimes I really have to study the digits hard to make out how much it is!

the price scam doesn't work well with the market changes (well done CCP). Unlike before when it showed everything now it only show the cheapest, the closest and the item with the most volume in the advanced info.
i got 0 isk from my scams in 2 months (and i have a wide range of items) , before i got at least 20m/week. So there's nothing to whine for now
