Edited by: Darcon on 11/07/2004 21:58:58 I post this as a member of Everlasting Vendetta. I do so without permission of any leadership, and thus to not speak for them. I do this totally out of character in response to rumors finally reaching the main EvE boards. Please accept this as such.
Same old story:
Some weeks ago four of our five battleship blueprints went missing from their research slots. The issue was pursued as a faulty research facility failure and petitioned to the GMs of CCP. It took a rather unreasonable amount of time for them to reply, but by Friday we had our worst suspicions confirmed. With their help (which won't be detailed much here), we were able to construct the timeline, theft method, and some of the characters involved. Let me clarify that the GMs gave us no special treatment (as they have in the past to others) and actively refused to disclose the exact thief and current location of the blueprints, though they did disclose the steps, times, dates, and confirmed that they are able to precisely track the items in question.
It's the same old story of a member or members complicit in the theft of the countless hours of effort of many player of this game. No whining or complaining here, just another hard lesson learned about people, games, and human nature. So be it.
As I started this message, I reminded all that I speak only as a member here without power or authority to much change this situation.
Interestingly enough, the person or persons involved in the theft (and I most certainly do not want to wrongly accuse someone without absolute proof) all left Everlasting Vendetta to form a new corporation: Equilibria [.E.] I personally feel that the vast majority of the players now in that corporation are not in any way corp thieves, nor would they condone such actions. I also do not believe that their current sponsors (Setenta Corp) in the region that they have returned to (Stain), would ever tolerate such behavior. The vast majority of all players potentially involved here are almost certainly ignorant of these events. We may hear rationalizations of their actions as a response, but they will be only that -- rationalizations.
I don't know how this will play out, but I expect little overall. I don't expect that Everlasting Vendetta will ever see those blueprints again. I don't know how the members of Equilibria will respond to the news, nor how other corps in EvE will react. I'm sure some will enjoy the news, others condemn, and most to simply shake their heads watching the old drama played out one more time.
The future:
I'm not sure what will become of Everlasting Vendetta at this point. It is a hard blow as it would be to most any, but hardly a crushing one. Blueprints can be replaced, but the trust of hundreds of players and thousands of hours of works will always be a notch lower. Some players though will not recover at all. Everlasting Vendetta is more than strong enough to replace these losses, immediately, and continue having fun, but the toll will be heavy for some. Time will tell.
Thanks for your time, Darcon

Heh, yeah its a shame corps dont have an audit trail on items, so you can see who the thief is, or who at least initiated the theft. Thats why i left EV, and why i wouldnt join Equilibria, cos someone in one of those corps is a stealin other peoples stuff ;(

Lockdown wont be the solution. A ceo or director would be able to remove the lockdown and take the prints.
I'm assuming in this case, like in many others, the thief was a trusted member of the corp who had director access --------------------------- (c) Copyright Saladin, 2005. Any editing of this post by a third party will be in violation United States Internet Copyright law 46525 of 2003. |

Well I left Vendetta for my reasons, those reasons were not Equlibria, I went to find something else to do in EVE. Certainly have nothing to do with this, though it is very very sad and I don't know who could do something like that.
