It's properly boring to have wings of 2-3 guys just sit forever between nowhere and anywhere because they can't stand the heat.
It's pretty funny how the people who whine that EVE is too much consentual PvP already are usually the same people who feel safespots are a good idea so they can invade any area that has tenfold their power and then complain you're a coward because you go after them in numbers and won't leave them alone with your indies.
Talk about wolfpacks, guerilla is fine by me, but guerilla soldiers dont roll their gear up to the lawn of military HQ and tell jokes. Guerillas are HIT AND RUN, not HIT AND HAVE A BBQ in public! Could we please implement warfare and strike capability anytime soon? Not this silly "trick your weaker opponent into thinking he can win" bull...

Safespots aren't the problem. The problem is the lack of any means to effectively track them down within a week of dedicated searching. They need to fix those issues and provide a means for the spots to be located, not get rid of them entirely. If they get rid of safespots entirely they should also add a 'Carebear Cube' that can be fitted into a low slot. Once activated it forces offline all offensive devices within a 5 AU range.

It's funny how people say you can find a safe spot too, but they fail to mention you can only find the very poorly made ones after a very long time. Any half decent safe spot is all but unreachable, and if you're in command of a fleet that's hiding from a larger fleet you'll make damn sure your safe spot is a good one. Nevermind warping people to you after finding the safe spot, by the time your buddies arrive 90% of the people at the safe spot have warped out.

Well I vote no on the carebearcube, I like guns.
Well to implement tracking means safespots die. If you're trapped in a system, you should be trackable, period. Support war in eve, eat a pro-safepointer today!

Safe spots are needed.
If only to be able to take a f'ng break to have a cig or go the bathroom.
I hear alot of people moaning about people talking smack from safe spots. I think the problem for those that moan is to learn the term 'sticks and stones' and just tune them out. I've been playing since may of '03 and smack talk hasn't been a problem for me even once. Probably because it's generally a two-way street.
The current bookmarking system is fine the way it is.

All that empty space and you guys just want to remove it all.. That's sad..
Tracking should be implimented. But you should also be able to anchor turrets at your safespots to protect it, if the enemy finds your safespots..
Anyways.. You sit and whine about safespots. What is next? You want to completely remove the ability to exit the game as well?

Edited by: Earthan on 12/07/2004 21:10:37 Definitely we need means to track safespots fast.
I hoped this new frigs will do it but it wasnt to happen:(
IT wont ruin safespots as you still can do things like warping between them, warping between moons.
It will just make impossible sitting. like iluu said BBQ-ing, and talking crap in local.
IT will make everything faster more enjojable.
Really i cant see aproblem here to introduce a mean to track safespots.

I see no problems with hiding, anyone running away from anyone will do it. having a place to hide to is a good idea.
maybe there should be a transmission pinpoint scanner, so if you're a yappy idiot a trio of ships could triangulate your signal and find you. make local, corp and every channel other than gang traceable, so if you're forced to hide you have to shut up and hide...
there should also be an emissions pinpointer, based on the same idea, if a lot of people are flying into and out of a safespot it should light up like a star going nova on the emissions scanner.
but hey while we're dreaming, I want a pony with a cape!

uh.. logging out shouldn't have to be an option. Neither should fighting a losing battle. You guys have a problem with smack talk. Either keep your mouth shut or use the block feature. If you want something to blow up. Go find someone that isn't hiding or go blow up an NPC pirate or something.
And stop <cough> complaining.. You're giving me a headache.

Heres an idea. Lets just get rid of safe spots, get rid of insta BM's and get rid of Warp core stabilizers.
This would make all the pirates happy until they find out that they cant find any Megacyte or Zydrine for sale anywere in the universe. Then they will start a new thread whining about that.

why get rid of warp core stabs? I never heard anyone complain about warp core stabs except that they were underpowered. Safespots are a bigger problem then Insta BM's because now we have Mobile Warp disruptors that can stop insta bm's. As for empire wars then yeah maybe you shouldnt be able to make insta bm's in empre bc the empires dont allow it for security reasons ( a roleplay solution)

Heres a solution. Get rid of Gate campers. Too easy to take out an indy. frig or a cruiser. And in return, Make it to were you can warp to anyone in the system. Even if they are in a safe spot. But, Also make it to were the miners can fight you instead of run. You can still scramble them, but they can give you a fair fight instead of being sitting ducks. Maybe add mining only turrets to the current turrets on all ships. Eg. Cruiser: 5 turret points + 4 mining points. So you could fit 5 guns and 4 miners but NOT 9 guns or 9 miners. Indy: 5 Turret points + 1 mining point.......etc.

I dont think tracking agents give bookmarks to safespots. I assume thats what your saying because using a tracking agent takes 10 minutes. Im just trying to understand wether your proposing that safespots should be findable in 10 minutes or if they already are.

I fail to see how this situation makes someone a noob. If they are trained primarily in mining, or manufacturing, then they would be silly to engage someone who has trained primarily in combat. Seems more a smart move than a noob move to me. *shrug*

I don't know.. removing safespots all together may be a bad ideal. It would make infiltration and small unit operations nearly impossible. How can a small fleet hit and run if it can't run?
Instead maybe make escaping a fight a little harder, right now I think it's too easy and simple to escape. I mean the best way to live through a fight where the odds are clearly stacked against you is not to fight or do your best not to get caught in one.
What are you going to do? I'm going to kill them all sir |

Right but do you think a small fleet should be able to hit and run say a corporation that has every gate camped in a system with mobile warp disruptors? No, but there is o corp in Eve that can camp every gate in every system in a whole region. So there woudl still be oppurtunity to do guerilla tactics and escape. OR they shouldnt be able to camp a system and then one sign of being outnumbered or trapped they safespot and logout etc. That is bad flavor and it ruins PvP. I mean they were trapped and outnumbered, they should of been destroyed for being so stupid as to not escape through the gate or to dock.
Next person who says that there should be safespots in Eve will receive negative standing to me personally. Thank you. End this nonsense. Go play a wimp game like Everquest.

Mr nStuff, you sound like an electronics salesman. You> So you want me to buy that 1000$ TV instead of the 500$ one in your ad, why? Salesman> Just look at them, the reason is obvious! ... uhm ok ...
Quote: People feel safe there, leave their ships, and then I come along and impound them for littering the space lanes.
I've made a fortune solo, just because of safespots and so I would hate to see them go. People feel safe there, leave their ships, and then I come along and impound them for littering the space lanes.
You couldnt find a safespot 60AU from nearest stellar object in a week. Why? Because you cant rightclick and "warp X AU" in the chosen direction. I see your bull about this in lots of posts but the only thing you can find is noob-safespots. And IF you find one, warping out takes 10 seconds max, thanks for stopping by!
Quote: How can a small fleet hit and run if it can't run?
How is a wing of pilots running if they are sitting midspace doing nothing, laughing and having a good time?
Ship costs are now down alot due to insurance so it wouldnt greif people to death if they lost a ship a bit more often. Please implement possible tracking under 5 minutes to improve PvP and warfare. I see wonderful new tactics coming with "no pilots in space on map" combined with this, requiring actual tactics, scouting and ACTUAL guerilla hit-and-run tactics.

Um why not just give us Beacons they could fire and attach to a ship?? Would be a way of tracking pirates and those who run from a fight. You could set a timer so it only lasts for say a few minutes.

I hate it when people warp to safe spots. I warp to safespots when I have to deal with RL stuff. (changing nappies, smoking, answering nature's sweet call, madly tidying the house before the wife gets home...)
Thus I hate myself.
:/
I'll make you a deal ... I'll vote for the removal of safespots if you promise not to question me if I need to log to do RL stuff.
Never happen though - people who log when there is the potential for conflict are always thought of with less respect than people who warp away to safespots. End result is the same though - you can't kill them, they can't kill you ... not really sure I know what the problem is. ______________________________________________

Safe spots are a viable option to those who are not kitted out to pvp or are not into pvp. There are plenty other targets out there for you to pick on that are willing to fight against you so let those that arn't go to their safe spot and wait out the heat. If you have a bunch of clowns that are sitting in a safe spot just to taunt you then click block and they will go away, I promise. Going to a safe spot is no different than going to a station and docking but if there is no station around then it is the only other alternative. What next, you want to prohibit people from docking in a station?

Safespots should be in Eve :)
But in all seriousness although I have no experience in making, finding, or using safespots, I believe that there has to be a way for people to run away from a battle if they don't want to fight and since jumping to another system has been taken away (mostly) due to gate camping and mobile warp disruptors, the only other means to do this is to warp somewhere (which could be stopped by warp scramblers if you are quick enough). Warping to a planet or other object in a system is also not a viable option because it would be far too easy to follow. It seems that all the people that want safespots to go do not want to be clever enough to find a way around them.
The ones who came up with safespots were simply outsmarting the pirates or whoever was attacking them which of course upset the assailants. So instead of finding other players to attack or taking the time to either find the safespot or prevent them from being effective they come to the forums and whine.
I have heard of triangulation becoming a possiblity with Shiva so all those who hate safespots just wait for Shiva like the rest of us that want new features.
PS: Sorry for the long sentences.

IF you want to be a girl and warp to a deadspot in space where likely noone is going to find you then so be it. You will have bad standing with me. I dont agree with it and it is my right to set you at bad personal standing. You should go play a game like Tale in the desert which doesnt have combat. Why do you go into 0.0? To grief people by safespotting all over being invincible in the most dangerous places in Eve( or close enough). Or you like cmaping a system as a wannabee alliance or corporation/pirates and then safespotting at first sign of trouble? Please.

And instead of safespot hugging, we'll have gate hugging.

I look at this from two perspectives. As a PvP enthusiast, it really sucks that me and my pals can jump into a system, bent on blood, and our target jumps to a safespot, never to be seen again that day. But on the other hand as a smalltimer and miner, I see that theyre essential to mining and getting past gate-ganks that dont care if were a band of mining noobs or an alliance battle fleet.
The problem I see with making safespots easily detectable is griefer gangs will just go from system to system, tracking down safespots and blowing up the secure cans and backup ships we leave there. Very, very bad news for all the smallish mining/industrial corps out there. I think this is a problem that will plague POS's as well, and basically make it so only huge corps/alliances with people online 24/7 could have one without it being ganked to hell by the roving lamers.
A possible solution I see is a very large, very expensive anchorable 'stealth field' that hides everything in a ~30km radius from scanners. Perhaps you could even make it so that a corp or individual can only have 1 of them. Thus, a mining op could establish a mess of cans at a safespot in their favorite system, but fighters couldnt just jump away in any system and escape being shot at. _________________ [SAK] And Proud Of It! aka Cpt Bogus Is that my torped sig cloaking your base? |

Hehe, go away! That IS the problem!
It's not like the removal of safespots removes the ability to run and hide. Just warp around between moons, switch systems or log off somewhere. If we implement this so it takes let's say 3 minutes to "locate warpdrive signature" anywhere in system, you can always, as a solo miner or explorer warp somewhere, log off and have your ship disappear safely.
What I DO want then, is for proper invaders to stay the hell logged off if they can't take the pain. That way, for actual guerilla to work, you need to act like real guerillas, HITTING AND RUNNING, not hard to understand that's not the way it is atm.
Quote: Safespots are very much part of the game as corp theft, both take time to trackdown and deal with my friend.
Could we please stop pretending there is a way to locate a good safespot? Because it can't be done. Stop playing elite by claiming it can be done. I know all the mathematics needed to locate a point in 3D space and it isnt in this game. This tactic has no countermeasure, thus it is unbalanced.

There are many reasons why safe spots need to go. Primarily, they are an exploit of the game mechanics that have no counter measure and use of them often leads to situations were there is hours of no actual gameplay. People log on to be entertained not to stare mindlessly at space while the opposing side sits at an unreachable safe spot afk or using alts until they are ready to fight. They make a mockery of the notion that P v.P combat in this game is non-consensual.
CCP has already recognised as far back as last year that a solution needs to be implemented to safe spots. Like it or not they are going to be removed. My preferred solution would to be enhance the present scanner so that you can accurately tell the distances to objects while also adding the ability for ships to warp in any direction or range they wish.

Um why cant you put your backup ships and ammo in stations like normal people? Else wait for player owned structures.

Um why cant you put your backup ships and ammo in stations like normal people? Else wait for player owned structures.

funny how people that dont like safe spots r pirates or others that pvp, people that do like them r npc and ninja miners.
needs to be a trade off.
Like war combatants can be warped to ne where in a system. that would stop a fleet safespoting but alow the smaller corps npc hunting 0.0 to hide from ganking pirates.

Some safespots can be found. Not easily though. And impossible if the person even had half a clue how to do it. Your arguments about guerilla tactics and how they need safespots is false. If all gates out of a system are camped and have mobile warp disruptors ont hem your out of luck to begin with. You moonhop and logoff. Same as safespotting. Or you dock if possible. Whats the problem? Whya re deadspace bookmarks even possible to beginw ith? If new scanner technology was coming in next patch I wouldnt be posting here. But it isnt and CCP has said jack about it besides Oveer arguing with the SAfespot huggers and coming up with unnaceptable solutions. Just get rid of deadspace bookmarking. Only allow bookmarks to be placed near stations, assteroid belts, moons and planets in say a 500km range. All problems solved. No more insta jumping. Still bookmars can be used for battles. face it 99% of the fighitng would happen near gates and stations and nea rmoons and planets and asteroid belts if we didnt have deadspace bookmarking. Or at least very close to those entities. The wya it should be.
This is a pretty big sore for me in Eve right now. While I can use deadspace bookmarking ot my advanatge. it is something I would rather not have. And if we did have it then I expect my scanner to provide something useful like the ability to find people in deadspace and warp to them etc. I mean wth is this hide and go seek?

How about flagging people that recently shot at someone so they can be warped to on scanner for a period of time ?
Alleviates the combat difficulty of nearly-dead targets warping out, but leaves the safespot as def3ensive option for non-combatants.

Who would this affect?
How would it affect people in 0.0?
- Solo players who are unaware or afk would be catchable for pirates or opressing alliances but still be able to warp somewhere and log safely or run from system. With the possibility to more easily find others, why would anyone waste money to stalk and wait for someone who has logged? Actually, this brings combat from stations and gates to more areas and brings more deepspace insecurity.
- So called wolfpacks behind enemy lines would have to do what real rangers, paratroppers or similar have to do, attack and MOVE! Giving your enemy time to establish air superiority in a system SHOULD be fatal or it should at least force you to log off!
- Warfare between alliances would be more interesting and devastating when sudden strikes or blobwars would produce more kills, thereby truly enforcing the "powerful megacorporations" from the game description some of you love to quote so often.
To compensate the pirates for needing to move around more, maybe make modules last easier when killing a ship, like giving it 75% chance to survive explosion and cargohold items 100% chance to survive? Just anything to destroy the BORING safespots! I still think it should take sensors 2-3 minutes to locate a warpdrive in system or something, not an "instant warp to" from local.

Hehe, go away! That IS the problem!
It's not like the removal of safespots removes the ability to run and hide...
But if there is no difference between logging or warping to a safespot, where is the problem with either?
People can log to avoid combat. People can use safespots to avoid combat.
When logged there is 0 chance of killing them. When at safespot there is a minimal chance of killing them.
Thus using a safespot is better than people logging.
Ergo, if you do ban safespots you must prevent people logging off in order to maintain a balance.
So, if you need to do something in real life you will need to either dock (hard in the systems I frequent), or do it during downtime.
There. Logic wins again.

it's really funny, the thing is, that yesterday illuminati with fleet of about 10BS were just sitting in 1 system and waiting for 2 pilots when they will come out from safespot, lol , only idiot will do that, if there will be no safespots pilots will just log off and that's it...who will fight 2 vs 10?:)) U didn't use any tactics to catch someone on gates or even on planets, enemy forces were ALL THE TIME moving through ur systems (this u call sitting on safespots???), what did u do? - u were uncoordinated and u didn't know what to do, cause it seems u have had first battle in ur life and u lost few BS (4) they was destroyed from safespot ? lol:))
So illuminati go train u fighting skills and try to move ur lazy ass, use TS, and don't sit just on the gates with 10-15 BS waiting for 1-3 BS come out to u and fight - that's really dumb tactics , guerilla seems to me more effective against urs :)
illuminati u think only u have such problems ? every corp have to defend their territory or simply knew hot to do that, so stfu and do it like a man.
THE funniest thing, that after all - u decided to post a topic - about removing of safespots, i dunno how that called in english, in russian it calls - debilism.
P.S. sry for mistakes P.P.S. my reply is not about safespots, it's about illuminati's "Do not do anything - until CCP will do something" tactics. |

Your wrong though and forum rules doesnt permit you to say how wrong you are.
If someone logs that means they warp away and dissapear. WHen they log back in they warp back to where they logged off. People are only going to be able to logoff near moons planets stations gates etc. There is going to be a higher risk in logging in. People who have patience will have a chance of catching people logging in. Which will make station and player owned structures more sought after the way it should be in my opinion. Logging in space will have a risk involved. There is no risk in safespotting. And saying there is a minimal chance of finding the safespot is very gracious considering how it is actually less then minimal. Almost nonexistant.
Please dont instul my intelligence here when you argue about safespots. You cant even deduct your own logics about the pro's and con's behind it. Get rid of safespots. Plain and simple. Its been said for the last eon. Get rid of dead space bookmarking if you arent going to make scanner worth anything.

Here's the deal you say that people who can't defend themselves in 0.0 deserve to die? Who are you again to make such a wide and assuming general statement like that? Oh right just another player like anyone else.
Ironic how you can't argue for their removal either. How about at least one 'actual' situation where safespots have ruined the concept of the game. Keep in mind that the example should outweigh all the pro's.
Pro's:
1) Provides a quick and easy way to go afk for a few. 2) Provides a rally point for an operation in the system in question. 3) Provides pinpoints to track down stuff in deep space. (meaning that their use helps to find other ones) 4) Provides a space to store secure cargos so they don't congest the normal warp-to areas. 5) Provides a space to store ammo for long-term engagments. 6) Provides a certain net of safety for 'near' defenseless mining parties. 7) Provides a triangulation point to be able to warp to objects from an alternate direction. 8) In the future would provide a relative safe area for mobile refinery and re-fitting.
What I think yours and others problem are with these safe spots is not in the safe spots. But rather in your inability overcome them. You feel you have them on the ropes or whatever and have an advantage and you can not exact that advantage. While I appreciate that could be frustrating it is part of online gaming that you can't always get what you want. (hmmm rolling stones anyone?)

You mean
Pro's: 1) Allows me to run in the heat of battle never to be found again. 2) Allows my ship to escape death 80% of the time. 3) Allows me and my friends free reign in places normally we would get smacked around like little girls, all becase we warped in with inties and made a whole bunch of safe spots. 4) System camping is never so easy because well all we have to do is safespot whenever we are outnumbered. we lack the skill to dock or jump out of system or to have escape routes. 5) It supports Anti PvPism 6) There is nothing like safespotting and creating a big blob of unfindable ships to make all those cower in fear whent hey look at map, and to make them never travel there again! 7) Oh yeah ban PvP. LETS PLAY HIDE AND GO SEEK INSTEAD!
Case Closed. Already made my point I dont like it.

A wise man once told me 'Intolerance is a sign of impotence' and you sure seem not able to tolerate their use.
1) Log out then if you need to go away from the keyboard and are not able to dock in a station.
2,4,5 & 7) Generally people who are arguing against safespots aren't suggesting that you should remove the ability to bookmark places in dead space. What most people do want is a relatively simple and effective method of tracking down objects that are at dead space spots. Therefore you should still be able to do the things you mention in those points.
3) Properly made safe spots are not trackable through any method.
6) If you want to mine in 0.0 space then you need to have sufficient forces to ensure the security of the operation and not rely on weaknesses and oversights in the game mechanics. Eve is a non-consensual P v.P combat game in 0.0 space. If people aren't willing to adapt to the challenges and problems that poses then go back to empire or find another game.
8) There are going to be sentry guns introduced along with other equipment to help corps protect their POSs. I just don't see fun or challenge in being able to deploy POSs at unreachable dead space areas.

Yup....remove safespots.
Then drop the pirate ratings "open season" down from -5.0 to -2.0. Sorry, but once you hit -2.0 you've picked your career path.
Will that happen? Until then leave safespots alone.

The point I am trying to make is that getting rid of safespots will do nothing. All it will mean is will people who would use a safespot will just log instead.
You still can't fight them.
You are going to be just as unhappy if people log, and you'll be back here *****ing about that.
If you have a system locked down properly it doesn't matter if people log or use a safespot, they won't get out.
If you can't secure a system properly then you really shouldn't advertise the fact here. ______________________________________________

Please try and see the logic. There will be greater chance of killing people without safespots. In the example of a camped system at least if a person is logged on we know to look at moons, belts gates or stations etc. We dont have to cover millions of square misles of space going 500km/s which would take about 500 years.
When you are camping for example and 10 ships warp into system, instead of warping into deadspace to avoid being killed you either have to goto the station if there is one and dock, or goto a moon etc. and either hide or logout. At least now the one's who were suppsoed to win have a better chance of trakcing you or cutting off your route of escape. GASP NOT TACTICS. NO. That would be Bad. Down with PvP right? Cmon please. For the good of the game stop arguiing.
Besides you need to start getting good at defending moons and gates because when Shiva comes, the majority of the combat will be attacking and defending moons. Not playing warp tag with fleets 10 time syour size from safespot to enemy to safespot to enemy. And one day you might be in a situation where your enemy goes into deadspace and camps out in a system you want to take over. You would want them to fight right? Take away their mechanics inw hich they can avoid the fight. Make system conquering viable.

I really really dont see how the below solution could hurt anyone beside making the game more fun:
1-keep safespots.
2- Bring ways that can track any safespot within 5 minutes max.
What we get is: 1- You still can escape from a combat and not be followed immediately.
2-You still can log off before the enemy gets you.
3- You still can survey a system with enemy forces by warping from safespot to safespot, moving all time. But you got to move and there is risk.
3- No more lame siting at safesopt in system with 50 enemy ships with no risk.
Imho these are good solutions, maybe not solving all issues but making the game better.

Space is vast.. Losing track of a ship is very viable.. In the end CCP will please everybody.. That means they will most likely ALWAYS have some way of allowing a player in a system w/o a station, some form of protection or place to hide affectively.
Safespots are the equivalent of logging out. Sorta.. Except that you get to stay online, change your skills, evemail people, talk smack in local, ect. áSince there is a block option. I will never ever see your argument about safespots. Since the player could just log off anyways..

Since this game has memory issues and you need to log in/out all the time to sort them. I doubt they will nerf logging out/in anytime in the near future.. Quote: 1) Log out then if you need to go away from the keyboard and are not able to dock in a station.
1) Logout? That's dumb. Many people including myself take quite a few breaks from the game while playing. Some of these are as short as 1-2 minutes. Re-logging every time would be a total drag. This game needs less drags to be sure.
2,4,5,7) Yes and most people are suggesting a special piece of equipment that can warp from long range scan or simply spending 10 minutes to find a safe spot. That's ridiculous. Space is a big place and it being hard to find people sometimes reflects that. Suggesting the removal of utilizing these spaces or making it brutally simple to locate makes the universe a smaller place.
3) Not true. While although properly made BMs could take a long time to find. One rule holds true, if someone else got there so can you.
6) What you're suggesting is that only the largest of corporations should be able to mine in 0.0. Defending oneself from all possible threats would bring down the isk per hour of mining / per ship to a point where you may as well stay in empire or just hunt NPCs. And NO eve is NOT a non-consentual PvP game although there are many who would wish it that way. You seem to think you have a right to attack anyone you want and most "pirate" types constantly argue for being able to drag anyone they want into a PvP battle at any time. Very selfish outlook tbh. Adapt to the challenges? Sounds like it you who cannot adapt to the way the game has been designed from day one so you post and start threads of this nature based soley on yous and others inability to met with the challenges that the game provides.
8) Others don't see the fun or challenge in being insta-ganked at gates by 5 BS's but most of the anti-gatecamping threads have died down because haulers and such have simply dealt with it. Since POS's aren't in game yet we will see how they are deployed. More than likely out of reach of the smaller corporations but one can hope that they could deploy something to make the game less tedius like a refitting mobile dock. Of course if a 10 man corp had to spend all their time defending it they wouldn't spend anytime actually using it.

Quote: 1) Log out then if you need to go away from the keyboard and are not able to dock in a station.

Yes they said new login/logout system because the old methods were being epxloited. Learn to R E A D <--. Which will probably get rid of logging out to avoid being podded, strengtheneing logout system to be less epxloitable and widely used. And reworking the login method to avoid login trap situations.

If you actually R.E.A.D. a few posts back. You will noticed that I was talking about logging out, not login/logout exploits... So the Dev Blog is irrelevant.
And i'm pretty sure CCP doesn't plan to nerf logging out.

Safespots are unbalanced, thats a fact. They should be nerfed, that's an opinion. I'm hoping this will show the devs more people share that opinion, which they obviously do.

People will just take option 2, every single time.
That's okay. At least then they're offline which (hopefully combined with fixing the log-on tactic)makes it clear they are out of the fight.
It's disgustingly irritating to have people sit at a good safe spot for an hour with maybe 3 or 4 of 20 pilots actually watching their accounts (and keeping the others notified via TS), while the rest stay logged in, at the safe spot, running a 2nd account doing something else (or turn up their PC speaker and play X-box/read a book, etc). One fairly famous player spend a chunk of last week logged on in 0.0 for hours and hours on end at a safe spot(s) in one system, usually alone (although who knows with the log-in thing still legal and possible). Was really irritating, and I sincerly doubt he/she was at the keys, alertly watching local alone for 6 hours straight with nothing else running. The only reason no one went looking was of course once you're within their scanner range, people will either move safe spots or log off. That's fine if it takes 10 minutes to find them (reasonable time investment by eve standards), but painful when it takes an hour or more even with good scanner practice and an interceptor.
Just give us the ability to find people within 10 minutes even if they are sitting at safe. Safes will then still allow temporary shelter for both IC and RL issues (ie. toilet, ciggie) but you won't be able to go play a round of golf and come back unless you log off (which seems to me to be fair play).

I still can't see why being at a safespot is any worse than logging off?
What, functionally, is the difference?
Why is someone logging off ok, but using a safespot isn't?
Either ships have to stay ingame when you log off, and safespots removed; or everything stays how it is. Changing one without the other will have no real impact on game dynamics, and is thus pointless. ______________________________________________
Never argue with idiots. They will just drag it down to their level, and then beat you through experience. |

If we assume it will be possible to lock onto ship signatures in deepspace, and you are forced to log off, space is then under control. If I take 2 BS and 1 inty into hell's kitchen I better run after I hit or I know I'll stay logged for the rest of the day. Thus attacks being turned into proper guerilla warfare.
Deepspace combat is essentially about tricking someone into believing he can beat you or gateganking. Air superiority and first strike are what I am after, proper warfare. It's correct though that the tuning needs to be done closely together with these new "anti-logout" things CCP are looking at.
The combination is to allow the solo guy to have a chance to survive and not get WTFPWND in seconds after hostile enters system. Please remember though that being deepspace is supposed to be dangerous and presently I feel too safe. The word being "percentage" of chance of capture to quote our high game mechanic gods.
An alternative I've suggested in another thread is having total ship resolution radius in a grid matter for speed of warpdrive signature location. That would of course lead to people safespotting solo, hehe, so not sure about that one. But it's the idea of balance I'm after, tracking takes hours and new random BM's take seconds.

Put your money where your mouth is. Think you have to first get the right directional scan (its horribe doing it even if you know where someone is). Then try and get a distance reading since your scanner only reaches up to like 18au or something. Then warp and make a bookmark where yout hink it is. Rinse and repeat until you find it. Plus if the person had any decent idea how to make a good bookmark he would first make a normal safespot and then warp to another celestial object and create another one. Then it is IMPOSSIBLE to triangulate the safespot because more then liekly you are not oging ot get a directional reading, + find the right combination of doing two deadspace bookmarks of yourself to find it.
That might confuse some of you but it breaks down to good luck finding my safespots. Unless your an exploiting GM.

I'm guessing from how many that replied in this thread apart from me, this should at least deserve thought, response or something from a developer? It's already been in CSM but wasn't very crystal in meaning apart from some devs "liking the safespots" and some "not liking them".
My hopes are it will get changed before the entire rework of EW in some way, allow "ping" to get distance and warping in any direction for chosen distance? That makes tracking possible with 3 ships. Or allow a "warpsignature search" from local in 2-3 minutes or something. At least remove the random 300AU out BM's please unless I can warp in any direction for a chosen distance.

Suppose a solution could be that you can fit a device to your ship, that once you narrow a target to within 15Degrees or maybe 5 degrees you activate the device it then takes X amount of time to find a lock then you can warp to object... this would make safe spots trackable with some skill (to get into direction scanner) and then only after an allotted time of X - so them people that need a cig / quick break can still jump to a safe spot knowing they are relativly safe but prolonger period in the same safe spot is no longer possible

Its fare enough to keep them within the system locality so miners have place to go and hide and concider the situation if jumped. Fleets have a place to gather or regroup and everyone can stop at to go take a p1ss or have a cigarette whatever. But they need to be restricted to within 15AU of a celestial object and make sure they can be found within 20 minutes. The game is here to be played, if you have 2 hours time spare and you leave the game but stay logged in space then you should be up for risking your ship. If you don't want to risk it logg off.

Theres nothing wrong with safe spots........they happen to be the most realistic aspect of the game......
Ya see guys......Eve runs on its economy, thats another fairly real aspect of this game.....what effect would the removal of safe spots have on the economy?..........quite a big one....if you take the time to think about it. Most corps who mine in 0.0 space are in the habit of leaving several dozen haulers at safe spots along with cans ect.....and ofcourse mining craft..... When they fly out there they leave there BS ect at a safe spot change into a mining caft and mine....... Most of the mega and zydrine that comes into empire is mined in this way its the back bone of the ship building economy.....
So what we have is alot of relatively easily mined or being turned into bs to supply the amount of PVP that exists in the game right now Take away safe spots and two things will imediatly happen 1/ PVP will increase as mining ops will be vulnerable and need greater defences, resulting in more ships being lost 2/ Fewer ships will be built as a result of less ore being mined..
A few mega corps will then have a strangle hold on mega/zydrine production......the rest of the Eve comunity will fall behind....it will totally unbalance the game...... Take away jetty cans as well and ore production will drop by more than half..... This will result in more changes/patches ect
Everything in EVE is interconnected, changing one small thing can have a drastic effect somewhere else....... And what do we have right now........hundreds of unhappy campers wanting all sorts of things changed so that there particular game experience is better.......these are the same people who moan when it didnt turn out the way they wanted...(excuse the pun)

Well i have to say i get very mad when i see ppl support the safespots. Sure you schould be able to run to every place in space. But you schould also be able to get hunted to every corner of that space :) Im not a pirat. Stoped play the game in september after alot of succesfull ppl pirat kills. And loss to them aswhell offcurse :) You dont always succed killing. But one of the main reasons is that Safespots gains some piratgroups. You can sitt and hide and wait for the small ships to arrive at the gate and take them out. But as soon a big ship/fleet arrives you run and hide. Offcurse the none pirats do the same when outnumberd. And that is rather boring i have to say for bothways!!.
If safespots where removed or been able to get tracked. Some 0.0 regions will be able to all. Couse alot of the gatecampers will not be able to hold their lines. And some regions will be very very hard to get to whitout get pawned by some nice little pirat boys :) And said no wrong being a pirat!! "i dont like you guys, but i respect you" Then it will be more a strugle then a ******* hide and sick game. Its not Theif we are playing now :)
Well take this f* safespots away for the fun for us all!!. NONE pvp players will have harder running around in lowsec space. And We pvp will enjoy it more!!
Whit Best Regards
Me :)=

I WOULD like to note that in the Shiva Patch, there is a new skill being made which allows players to navigate during warp.
THe problem will be fixed in time.. or will new problem arise?

Except instead of warping to a safespot they will just log off instead. Keep a spy in the system, call everyone back when the threat is over.
THERE IS NO FUNCTIONAL DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SAFESPOTS AND LOGGING.
Either get rid of both as a way of avoiding combat, or neither. Removing one without the other is just a pointless change.
Seriously, people are not thinking this through. ______________________________________________

Edited by: Owi on 16/07/2004 14:06:11 i dont readed all..butwant to write my sign about this !
0.0 fights are Wars..and in real wars you can locate savespots.. if you have a badsavespot it takes 30 min to find them , if you have a good savespot it can be takes longer .. the scanners in eve are great at the mom ..and with a bit training you can find bad savespots .with luck you find a goodsavespot... so you make asavespot and stay there to take a break..but hi you forgot that your in a war !! so if you go sleep in a war and enemy come you get shooted ..your fault !! you have to defend this Spot !! scouting ect ..
So i think..the cov op ship have to get a good scanning range like 100.000 range or 500.000 and they can warp to this spot ! and we need a freewarp option !! so you can scann a system with freewarps.. ! if a cov op ship find a savespot and the enemys in there sleeping ..theyr fault !! get defenders and scouting to defend your savespot !
you want to fight ? Learn to lose !!

We must be playing different games then. If you make a safespot by warping between two points, then yes it is easy to find. If you make a safespot thats not based on warping between two points, then you are going to have to spend days, if not weeks trying to find it.
I am not a pirate, and I hate safespots. Or rather, I hate the way you are totally invunrable if you use one. I spent several hours tracking down a safespot once (The pirate had launched mines before logging off), only to have all the pirates warp out before we had even warped in (They watched the sensor, saw us getting close, and warped to another safespot). ====================================

Edited by: Dukath on 16/07/2004 19:20:47 1) All safespots can be found. If someone can make a safespot then you can get there too 2) a simple safespot can be found in about 10 minutes 3) a difficult safespot can take up to 12 hours (constant looking)
I know this because i have tracked down safespots that were made by making 2 safespots between random objects and then making a safespot between those safespots making sure that the last safespot is not near any line between 2 objects. Those are very hard to find.
However safespots are being abused too much and they should be trackable while not too fast.
Here is a very simple solution, shouldn't be a problem to implement and is (i think balanced enough)
make speed alterations affect warp too. You can set your speed when flying normally, so why not while warping.
1) finding the safespot will still require triangulation as it does now. 2) you can still make and use safespots like you can now 3) when setting your warp speed slower you have a better control on where your bookmark is placed and it should decrease the time for tracking down a safespot considerably but not too fast.
If the minimum warp speed is 500 000km/sec this would be a good balance i think.

It would be cool to get a basic response on what the new "full system scann" is that Oveur mentions in weekend blog. Especially with the new "anti-logoff-abuse" and who better to respond than the man himself?
