Hey i am surely not petting ccp's ears but some of you are nasty whinning with no much excuse. They r ppl, ordinary as you and me. Programers also r not Gods and network isnt the simplest thing to mess with. They surely could manage to forsee or chk first befor starting patch. ok, with you ppl, but some comments are unfair. Refunding lost hrs or minutes lets say. They could just leave us with our problems for more time. Then why dont we need refund for bad, or troublesome gaming time and we whinne only for extended dt with no patch? Its a game. If ppl's work has been just eve-ing sorry, get some life instead. Patch will come eventually.
And to be honest this thread has been just too long for the matter. If me and you were using the time we spend whinning in the forum for a not delivered patch, was spent on rl or our wives and kids we could at least hear a thank you. They'r troubled much and they know their bad situation. Let them do their best (which isnt always best).

a) put it in the bin and forget about the fact that you paid for it. b) pretend you are part of a community of ass-kissers who try to defend everything the game makers do on a public forum and forget that you paid for it. c) remember that you paid for it and don't owe the game maker anything for their **** ups?
Marks: a) or b) epic fail. c) your rights as a consumers.
Your right as a consumer is to rage uncontrollably when unforeseen issues happen? Are you the same person who suggests suing when you dump coffee in your lap and it turns out to be hot?

When cusmtomer services try to fob you off with BS you say thank you and hang up, right?
The reason people rage on these forums is because of the way CCP fails to handle these situations and fobs us off with enigmatic replies like "unforeseen" read: didn't foresee, and "network issues" read: we don't like admitting we fouled up because then we might have to compensate you.
Quote: Are you the same person who suggests suing when you dump coffee in your lap and it turns out to be hot?
People have a right to complain about a product that does not do what it says on the box. This is a completely different situation from people failing to take the right precautions when handling something they know can be dangerous. Hot coffee can burn = known fact.
The funniest thing about the situation that you describe is that the person who burnt themselves with the coffee from McD's actually won.
Now, who is really the ass here? The person or the legal system that upheld their complaint?

Finally CCP makes the required decision to delay deployment. Too bad they could not recognize this sort of situation earlier on in patching attempts...ideally before the downtime started. Sometimes you just are not ready and heroic programming during deployment doesn't come through with a miracle.
But at least CCP got some invaluable test time on the real hardware. Now maybe CCP will think about how they can upgrade the fidelity of their test servers to the key complexities of the real hardware.
P.S. I love the slap at MacIntoshes. I noted the update engine is called Cider - as in made from rotten apples.

Unfortunately, for thinking people, the dregs of humanity have a right to life. I'm with you bud and think that legislating for morons is not the way forward, but when the law actually supports the complaints of morons then who should we really be looking at to change?

Edited by: Jed Clampett on 10/12/2008 16:52:32 Refund? Are you nuts? Your lost 4 hours amounts to only like only a few hundreds of a dollar out of the monthly fee.
Extra time? Well that is nice except changing time of day that billing is due is again foolish. Billing is done by whole calendar day and when CCP banks close -- not fractions of a day. And then there are all those people who want billing to stay on specific day of month.
Maybe just maybe CCP will add up the whole year's bad downtime and give it to people as a gift if we are nice. Or not. But it is really the only way all those tiny fractions add up to enough to bother with.

Absolutely spot on. All these weirdos who get touchy about people complain need to just calm down and stop telling people what they can and can't say.
This is a service, we're entitled to complain about a service that we pay for.

For one individual it might be peanuts. Now multiply it by the number of paying customers. It's not tiny fractions anymore. We're now talking about several thousand bucks that CCP got for not providing their product.
If your taxes went up by 1% you would be screaming at your governor, but what is that tiny fraction to you? Even you were on $1000 a week it would be only $10 dollars.
Now, imagine that you have had that 1% tax rise, but send me the money instead. It's only a tiny fraction.
cheers

The thing that should change is basic common sense. Looking back at the post you are taking out of context, The point you raise has nothing to do with that. But I'll bite. CCP at least tell you something has happened instead of leaving you in the dark, and at the end of the day, they are only oblidged to give "Best effort" at a minimum, but they seem to try their best to exceed this.

which is what they are going to go. Again without the context. Let's get some context in here: The reason people rage on these forums is because of the way CCP fails to handle these situations and fobs us off with enigmatic replies like "unforeseen" read: didn't foresee, and "network issues" read: we don't lie admitting we fouled up.
Enigmatic response: Unforseen? They didn't expect crap to happen, it happened. They are telling us they didn't expect it to go wrong, and they probably are still trying to work out what happened to break it in the first place. At least they have the graces to say "it's busted, we're looking". People obviously have never tried to troubleshoot things like this

Originally by: CCP Zulupark To elaborate a little on this, we ran into issues that could not be foreseen late in the deployment procedure. Due to that we only had about half an hour to try and resolve the situation or cancel publishing the patch. That's the reason we had a full downtime without actually deploying.
However since we have now run pretty much all the procedures and tests we need to run for a patch deployment, we can deploy it very soon, and then we don't need as long a downtime.
Also, the issues encountered were not with the patch or code itself, but rather with our distribution mechanics for the patches. That's being worked on now and will hopefully be resolved later today or tomorrow.
Thanks muchly for the info
dude, there is no info whatsoever in that blabla mail

Yeah CCP threw themselves quite a party. Too bad you couldn't be there. Too bad CCP wasn't enjoying it either.
Perspective: You can easily argue that CCP is slightly incompetent at times. But getting rich off not refunding $0.08 a few thousands of times? Use a calculator. You play for $0.50 per 24 hours. At most their WORK wasted $3520 because you hardly ever see more than 44,000 people in EVE during the middle of the week at 11-1530 GMT. And the "wasted" user money is more like $1800 based on normal logons.
Yes CCP should be doing better QA. But if they met your demands for refunds -- you would likely find it more an inconvenience than satisfying. Somebody PayPal this guy 8 cents.
