Any player with suggestions that threatens this dominance will be swiftly ridiculed as weak to discourage these ideas. Their only reasoning is that things should continue "as is" because they've always been that way. It's ironic since it's actually the older players that are the ones who want an easier game by ensuring newer players will never be equally competative. They are afraid of newer players with superior skills so the rely on the crutch of higher SP.
But mostly it's just plain good old fun to kill nubs.

Edited by: Gnulpie on 19/12/2008 19:49:42 The op is right.
Eve is a cruel, harsh and dark world. You can lose everything you have "worked" for in moments (and it doesn't matter if it is your own fault or not).
And yes, many more players want a happy cuddly save play game where you grind and level up and have no death penalty at all and so on. There IS a reason why those games - WoW at front - are so popular.
But this here is Eve. It is not a bright, happy and safe universe. You CAN lose stuff here. Even if you "worked" hard for it for a long time. Eve is not a forgiving environment - if you do mistakes then most probably you will suffer.
Yes, CCP could have probably ten times more subscribers and earn tons of money if they would remove all that harsh stuff and the highly competitive environment and the sandbox game design...
...but they do not want to do that! They want some dark universe where things are at risk, where you aren't safe. Where you have to be watchful all the time, where almost everyone wants to get your money, destroy your ship and just cheat you for their own profits. They want a universe which is not a cuddly world, which is highly competitive and where you always have to be watchful. Thank you CCP!
Oh, and the op probably should have obeyed the first law of Eve:
- Don't fly what you cannot afford to lose! -
If he continues to play, maybe next time he will use a cheap shuttle for travelling (especially in low sec). And besides, yeah, CCP could improve the user interface a bit here and there

Eve just markets itself to a different player base. WOW is popular because it's an easy access method of entertainment. I don't blame people for not liking EVE. Most people who get off of a RL job would like to go home and experience frustration in a game. That's what WOW is for. To have fun with as little as risk as possible. I don't have a problem with that.

how many people dont realize that the op is a troll?
while there are systems that you have to go through 0.4 or lower to get to hisec - not one of them is near a starter system
you wont get podded in 0.5 flying a frigate and being two weeks old
if people cant count to 10 they will have just as many problems playing the simplest mmo called wow

no, the reason EVE only has 250k thousand people (and acutally, i think it was more, but anyway) it only has 250k people because whiny ass kids like you dont play the game, EVE is harsh, its the way the game was made, you cant handle getting killed in a LOW SEC system because you didnt even ask how to get around low sec, you deserve to get popped
WoW is that way

Newsflash - old players die when they jump alone into hostile territory without the correct fit.
EVE is a hard game some games you just not going to be good at. Waht you're saying is we should make it easy so more people can play. So we should make it so you can't get killed. There are safer areas you didn't stay in them. I am surprised you got suicided as noob in .5 must've been carrying something expensive. What did you do buy isk? /start sig I love old characters that post 'I've beeen playing the game four years' when I know their account has been sold on. /end sig |

Originally by: Kahega Amielden Have some sad news for you, OP.
First, lets go over what happened
-You set course to your friend, and evidently set your autopilot settings wrong because otherwise you wouldn't have gone through lowsec -You saw the giant YOU ARE ENTERING LOWSEC WHERE YOU CAN BE KILLED and ignored it -You ran missions in a lowsec system without realizing it, got scanned down and popped.
Problem exists between keyboard and chair. Even if you didn't get popped and podded, your inability to pay attention would have gotten you scammed or popped or podded or all of the above at some point, when you had much more expensive stuff. Your inability to accept loss would have you /raging even harder than you are now.
The only loss here is that you didn't stay long enough to acquire some stuff so that you could give it to me when you leave.
Wow another person who doesn't know what they are talking about but likes to babble anyway. I think you problem exist between your brain and your fingers.
I think the complaint was about the lack of game friendly help for new players. And the map does allow you to go through low sec even if you mark avoid low sec. Not ever route is possible through only high sec space. Oh and .5 is not considered low sec. Think you need a little more play time to learn the game before you start giving advice to other new players.
If you are going to post at least know what you are talking about.
you can travel from caldari to mimintar space with out going trough lowsec.

This is what I love about EVE. The learning curve wards away most of the ****s, whiny teenagers and general morons with it's steep learning curve. I mean, how do you jump into 0.4 space without missing the MASSIVE pop-up screen that requires USER input to get rid of that states that you are jumping into low-sec and you can and probably will get smoked. That's not bad game design. That's bad brain design on your part. Read everything that pops up, ask questions, don't fly ships you can't afford to lose and keep your clone updated. This game will not teach you what you need to know like in WoW or Warhammer or whatever. You either need to learn though trial and error(as you did here) or join a player corporation and have them teach you. Asking questions is how you learn. You'd think that school would've taught you that. ------------------------------------------------
Your words are as empty as your future. I am the vanguard of your destruction.

OP
Don't listen to these "veterans" stick with it for awhile. Eve is a lot of fun. But unlike it's MMO tag, it really isn't "multi-player" (Hell it's not even ALT friendly) friendly, your best bet is to create a custom channel or corp that way you can chat while playing, unlike most MMOs EVE doesn't require groups to actually "beat" the content, so being in the same space as your buddy isn't a big deal.
Think of EVE as a prison, you and your friend are the "fresh" meat to the prison.
Now, bend over and get the soap big boy

I'm actually glad it requires more from players than the other MMO's. In my opinion it keeps the riff raff out for the most part. Some still get through.

So what?
The op is still right!!
CCP could attract lot of more players, ten or even more times! Just think about all those people playing wow or its clones. A lot of them could join Eve if it would have no penalty and would be just wow in space. Sure, the op is absolutely right with it!
But I am really thankful that CCP doesn't want Eve to become such a wow-in-space. Sure they could make much more money with such a game, but it would be the utter ruin of the Eve we all know and love (and hate sometimes ). The Eve we know needs caution, allows long term strategy, most fantastic scams and just all the drama we love! It allows much deeper and longer fun than any other online game out there.
If you invest care, attention and some thinking, then the reward will be a fantastic game. If you neglect these things, then you will get screwed over all the time and lose interest very fast.

You probably we're even in a .5 when you were doing that mission. No one in their right mind is going to suicide a noob in a mission. Also as someone already stated, the map feature "prefer safest" is just that, it doesn't say "high-sec route" it says I prefer to take a route that is safe. Some systems require a lowsec jump or too to reach. By the sounds of it you passed through Rancer or something and got smartbombed.
This game isn't one that holds peoples hands, you need to learn by dieing. I quit this game 3-4 times before I finally got the hang of it.

Please dont dumb down the game.
And yes, it has more then enough players, now I dont say I would be against having more ... there will probably come alot more players when Ambulation goes live and once there will be boxes on the shelves.
Honestly, I did not feel EVE was too hard when I started playing back in 2006, and back then I started with only 60k sp's ( or something like that ) not 800k sp's as it is now.
The new player guide is pretty good imho, and yes, you need to do some research if you want to play this game.
Just get over it and learn the game.

EVE is game that was INTENDED to be hard and frustrating at times, thats why we(people who play this game and like it) play it. There is plenty of toher cookie cutter games out there. I wish you luck in finding one that you will like.
