Ok, so what's with the lack of zydrine producing ores? Once upon a time every 0.0 region had some ores that gave it up. A little dark ochre, some gneiss and if you got lucky some crokite too. The other day though, having seen the prices for zydrine go over 4500, I searched a few 0.0 regions. Crokite didnt exist in most of them, one region had some dark ochre but that was next to arkonor (tough choice on what to mine there) and one region had no zydrine giving ores at all!! Now it aint that I won't go mine it myself, because I will. I just think there needs to be more of the lower class ores, like gneiss, to mine.

Edited by: Laendra on 19/07/2004 16:16:00 I would tend to agree with you on this. Zydrine producing ores (ones that don't contain Megacyte and/or Morphite), should be in the closest 0.0 systems (i.e. right outside of Empire space), continuing outwards in higher frequency into the outer regions, while the more rare Megacyte and Morphite producing ones should be further and further out. I should ALWAYS be able to find more Zydrine producing ore in 0.0 than Megacyte and Morphite producing ones, just as the lower ores should be more abundant than the Zydrine producing ores... ------------------- |

I know it sucks.
I had to jump 40 jumps to find a little gneiss.
Good luck finding crokite.
Are all the good ores being mined by NPC's or something? Man I'd like to find that mother load of an indy filled with 1 million zydrine.

I used to mine about 2k Zydrine a day, it sold within an hour after putting it on the market.
Most 0.0 systems appear to be quite worthless and the ones who do have good ores always seems to be +5 jumps from a refinery.
Until shiva comes out, every alliance will set up outposts in systems with high end ores and the market will be flooded with them ---------------------------

I know where to find each type of ore I just think that having regions of 0.0 with NO zydrine producing ores inflates the prices of minerals to ridiculously high levels. At current values the zydrine cost of a tier 2 battleship is around 40% of it's total, not to mention being over 4 times the NPC valuation of the mineral.

Zyd's a pain the ass to get. You need nearly 3x more Zyd than Mega for most ships, and there aren't 3x more Zyd yielding roids out there.
It's harder to get Zydrine (in the numbers required) than it is to get Megacyte, the supposed "rarest" mineral in the EVE universe...

Yeah, Zydrine is a major pain in the bottom to obtain. You either need to purchase it at about 4,000-5,000 ISK per piece, which means you have to pay about 3-4 million ISK to buy enough to build a Thorax, or you mine it from 0.0 areas that are taken over by so many pirates you'd get killed before you managed to fill 10% of your cargo hold. You could do group mining, but it's quite a hassle to get enough people to organise it.
The only other way to get it is mining loot from dead npc pirates and zydrine is given up in as big a quantity as megacyte... ---------------

It doesn't matter. If there would be more Zydrine around, the price would be lower, so you would mine more Zydrine, but still get the same amount of isk for it. I know some of you guys just mine it to build something, but there is no difference if you mine the zydrine to build something or if you buy it. Because if you mine it, you are still NOT selling it for 4500. Difficult to understand for some here obviously, but then again those are the people I make money off. |

Well, the real bugbear is that it drives the prices of player made items above the prices of NPC built ships. It is actually much more cost and time effective now to mine up heaps of Megacyte, sell it to the NPCs, and simply buy the items you want for isk.
What with the messed up prices, it cost me little more to buy a Tempest outright, then it would have cost me to build a Typhoon. That's just stupid.

Problem is many greedy miners mine all the crok and there for the ore distribution goes up the creek. It's difficult to respective mining when everybody is so crok hungry.
And 0.0 space is unregulated, as it should be, so access to these rare minerals should be difficult.
Happy ore hunting ^^ ---------------------------------

Prices of zydrine have gone up because of northern war which discourages mid-range miners to mine in pure-blind (namely EC-P8R). EC-P8R was one of the greatest suppliers of zydrine. There is usually lots of crokite (even 20 roids per belt), which yields highest amount of zydrine per m3 of any ore.
On the other hand.. alliances which fight the wars, have access to arkonor and bistot and are mining only that.. flooding the market with cheap megacyte (they need money fast to replace ships, so they lower the prices). And that's why megacyte is almost twice as cheaper as it was 6 months ago.
Currently a jet-can (27500m3) of crokite is worth over 20mil. Bistot is only fraction more valuable at the moment...

I say they either make a little Gneiss and Spodumain pop up in low-sec empire from time to time, or remove the Mega and Zyd requirements on frigates and cheap cruisers, and their mods. I can understand needing to go to 0.0 to get ultra-rare stuff thats needed for tech2 and big battleships and stuff, but making people have to do that even to make little crappy stuff is just lame. (and IMO it gives the rich people a bit too much control over the poor people) _________________ [SAK] And Proud Of It! aka Cpt Bogus Is that my torped sig cloaking your base? |

I think whats needed is to drastically increase the ammount of zydrine available.
ATM it is selling for more than 4 times the NPC cost for it. This clearly shows a huge supply problem.
I would suggest that they put something similar to Pyrox into higher sec space where it can be mined, even as high as .5-.6 space. say 500 units or ore per refine, and lots of tritanium, pye, but maybe 3-5 zydrine per refine, and make it similar to kernite in the unit size.
That way it becomes much more available, the trit and pye shortages people seem to also be having lately are corrected, (because lets face it, people will mine the hell out of it to get the zydrine they need) and zydrine prices come down to more acceptable levels where it can become profitable to produce again.

Zydrine (or Megacyte for that matter) will never be mineable outside of 0.0 because that would undermine the politcal and consequentally the PvP importance of the 0.0 regions.

One of the reasons that some regions don't have much Zyd producing ore is the stupid greedy miners pop the roids instead of leaving them with a few hundred units in them. The seem to grow faster if they don't have to spawn back but try getting good old Roidy McOrehumper to not just mine every little thing he can get his grubby miner 2's on.

Thanks for all the feedback. I started this topic because I spend most of my time in the 'southern' regions of EvE. Some time ago, as has been mentioned, regions such as Providence had Dark Ochre and Gneiss which have been removed completely, not mined. Regions further out, like Tenerifis, had some Crokite aswell as some Bistot. These got replaced with Spodumain (no zyd) and Arkonor. The problem here is that anyone mining these regions will not be bringing in the larger amounts of zydrine that are required by a growing number of the EvE playerbase. Megacyte is, imho, probably at the right price now, NPC valuation being roughly 2/3 of player set prices. I have no idea why Dark Ochre and Gneiss need to be rarer than the megacyte producing ores, especially in the 'southern' regions. With 0.0 space only a few jumps away from my 'base' system, I have difficulty understanding why I need to travel to the other side of the map to mine for zydrine. If I am prepared to go into 0.0, give me my reward. Even if only Gneiss distribution was increased, that would help a lot. And NO, no rare mineral giving ores in empire please. I enjoy the challenge of bringing the stuff home.

Fto Cruise, you are in the wrong bit of 0.0.
As has been pointed out, it is likely ore distribution within 0.0 has been created to give alliances a reason to try to hold regions of space and also fight for other areas.
If all the rare ores were available in all the 0.0s then it would get cozy quickly amongst the bigger alliances and they would slowly/quickly squeeze everything else out of existence but themselves and a few non-alliance members mining Veld in Yulai.

Completely agree!!! Stop popping the roids you idiots! If you find a nice hidden roid and leave 100-200 units in it you could come back a week later and pull 1k units from that same roid. Try it.

I don't think the lack of zydrine producing ores is the whole of the problem.
People just buy their zydrine, and mine megacyte for the isk to buy it with.
As long as buying zydrine for the isk you make with mining megacyte instead of zydrine turns you a net profit, why would anyone do differently ?
So, I would only see a change in this situation once zydrine reaches a level of profitability where mining crockite can compete with mining arkonor in :
1. mining efficiency, 2. net worth of ore mined, 3. effort needed to get to the roids for the minerals in question (i.e. roid distribution advantage of lower class roids give an advantage).
Make up an equation that makes sense of factors 1,2 and 3 and as soon as the result for a zydrine mining op reaches the same level as that for a megacyte mining op people will start mining for zyd more.
Hope this made some sense...What i'm trying to say is that arkmining is too easy compared to zyd mining atm. This is a result of problems tying in with all of the three above factors that influence the net result of any mining op. _______________________________________________

The other problem is missile production has skyrocketed with all of the people flying ravens.
That's sucking up large amounts of zydrine and mega :P

The main reason for the current lack of fresh Zydrine supply is the northern war.
For starters, the largest crokite-rich regions (Outer Ring, Fade, Deklein, Branch, Tenal, Venal, Tribute, Pure Blind, etc.) are homes to the various warring factions, be they PA or NCA. Alliances there dedicate less resources to mining and more to fighting, and when mining DOES take place, it is an unsafe proposition : cans may get popped by eventual raiding parties, indys may get ganked, etc. This results not only in less mining, but also less EFFICIENT mining, which all translates to a lot less supply.
Next, in those systems where crokite is easily and freely accessible (EC-P8R in Pure Blind for instance), the lack of alliance mining policies (ie keep the roids alive) means that roids DO get popped a lot, which in the long run means less supplies. Also, those systems being entry points to 0.0 space means they're hotly contested between warring factions and are often subjected to blockades (aka gate camping/ganking). While warring factions have repeatedly stated their intention to NOT shoot neutrals, paranoia and trigger-happy nervousness result in quite a lot of 'collateral damage'.
Finally, the northern war is a great consumer of ships, modules and ammunition. So part of the already reduced mining output is used by the factions at war for their own manufacturing. The rest is sold in empire, where it's mostly used to build ships that get sold almost instantly.
The overall result is a rise in BOTH the price of ships (higher demand, lower supply, higher cost of minerals) and the price of minerals (higher demand, lower supply, higher cost of ships - which is usually covered through the sale of minerals). Tier 2 battleships have gone from a 95-105 million bracket to a 105-120 million bracket. Zydrine has gone from 4100/4200 to just under the 5000 range. I believe this trend will continue as long as the northern war rages on.

Hmm while agreeing upon zydrine shortage, imho its a good thing.
Or pilots will find ways to acquire it or the prices will skyrocket .I dont see any problem , thats whats fun , the market is truly alive.
